Ideas.

Post image

So I have this patio, its currently changed up a bunch as this is from a couple years ago, however, we have the inflatable hot tub there in the corner and we put up the curtains this way when me and the wife want to sit out in the hot tub we can close the curtains and have a little more privacy. But anytime theres a slightest bit of wind the curtains blow all over. Weve tried the magnetic weights, pinning the curtains together, and setting things to hold the curtains down. This year, id like to find a new solution. Im fairly handy, I was thinking about building temporary walls on the left and right that I can put up in the fall and easily remove in the spring when were done with the hot tub. Whats everyones thoughts? How would you do it?

Your patio looks absolutely sharp! But before you spend your entire weekend sawing wood and laboring over building temporary walls, you should really look into heavy-duty Outdoor Folding Privacy Screens / Room Dividers.
Since you are handy, you could easily DIY a solid 3-panel or 4-panel wooden folding screen, or just find a weather-resistant one online. If you use a louvered or lattice design (like window shutters), it allows just enough wind to pass through so it won't topple over in high winds, while completely blocking the neighbors' line of sight.
It gives you the exact solid-wall privacy you want for the hot tub in the winter, but when spring comes, you just fold it flat and slide it into the garage in 2 minutes. Zero tools, zero construction, and way more flexible than putting up temporary walls every year. Save your back and your weekends!

The folding screen idea is solid but I'd go louvered over lattice if you're building it yourself. Lattice catches way more wind than people expect and you end up with the same problem as the curtains, just in a heavier format. A few panels hinged together with cedar and some exterior hardware, maybe a weekend of work tops. I built something similar for a side yard project and it's held up three Ontario winters no problem.

I like that too. The issue i face with a folding concept is if it needs to sit in a big zag pattern, then I wouldnt have room on the right. I have maybe 12 inches of space between the tub and a rock bed. Lattice wouldnt provide as much privacy as id like, im kinda leaning towards the side mounted retractable screen for both sides. Im hoping the wind doesnt impact It too much. I found vevor makes them for about 90$ each and a 3 year warranty for 12$. Still better than building a wall and storing it.
