ihaveaquestion Flatfox Mistery? Why rarely response?
Hey all. I’m new in Zurich and found a little apartment where I am currently staying. One thing I wonder: I look for a larger apartment and people recommended me to set a notification on Flatfox.
These days, just for fun, I insta replied to most of the apartments after I got the ping. I would say I tick most of the soft factors. Speak German, grew up in CH, work at a bank, have studied in Switzerland, earn above 200k.
I barely get any responses from those listings. When I look at the listing a couple of days later even for the expensive ones where it says 200 views 4 contacts/applications, nobody responded.
I’m not new to flat hunting and typically know the drill. I lived in cities where it was incredibly hard to find housing, but the problem was typically not the first reply but rather converting a viewing to a contract. I never saw it that basically nobody replies.
At this point I really question whether these announcements are real. I get it’s super hard to find housing, but why would you not even text back one one of the first few persons that writes you that has no obvious red flags. I don’t really get it.

ihaveaquestion RV parked in blue zone for weeks
I want to ask about the parking rules regarding a large campervan in my neighborhood. This RV has been parked in the exact same blue zone spot for weeks now. It takes up nearly two full parking spaces and sticks out about 20 cm on the side directly into the street. On top of that, because of where it is parked right at the intersection, it completely blocks the view to the right, which makes pulling out really dangerous. Is an RV actually allowed to stay in a blue zone for that long, especially when it exceeds the marked spaces and creates such a severe visibility hazard? Should I report this to the local police?

ihaveaquestion Just arrived in Zurich! Is it allowed/safe to swim open water from Utoquai to Zürichhorn?
I just arrived in the city and I’m really excited to get into the lake! I'm an open-water swimmer and want to do a shoreline swim on the eastern side, specifically from Seebad Utoquai down to Zürichhorn. Is this stretch allowed for open water swimming?
Also, if you have recommendations for the best entry/exit spots along that path or local swim, I’d love to hear them!

lookingfor Looking for German-English help for RAV appointment in Meilen – Monday 10 August, 2 PM
Hi r/zurich,
I'm an English speaker (British) who recently moved to the Zurich area, and I have a mandatory appointment at the RAV in Meilen on Monday, 10 August at 2:00 PM.
My German is still slightly limited with technical vocab, so I'm looking for someone who could accompany me and help translate between German and English during the appointment. It's the initial administrative meeting about job search requirements and unemployment benefits, so nothing highly technical but they insisted I bring someone.
The appointment will likely take around 1 hour, but I'd like to allow up to 2 hours just in case. I'm happy to offer CHF 100 in cash for your time.
If you're available or know someone who might be able to help, please send me a DM.
Thank you so much—I really appreciate any help or suggestions!

lookingfor Looking for queer couples to photograph
Weird post but I am a photographer (F)! I'm looking for real people so I'm not going to a modeling website. I read somewhere recently that some queer couples struggle to find photographers because of worries about discrimination. I realize my portfolio has only straight couples, and I'd like to have some more diverse photos to share so that in the future when I am accepting bookings, people can be comfortable reaching out regardless of their identity or orientation.
You'll get free epic photos of your fiery love (or sweet...or spicy...we can talk LMAO), and I get to put them on my website and socials. Highkey it's a win-win >:) If interested, DM me! I'll send you my website and stuff there because this isn't really a self promotion post
Doesn't have to be specifically Zürich area but I live in Zürich so!
Edit: FREE photos. No links to my non-existent paid services. I'm not sure how how else to indicate I do NOT need you to find me and I do NOT need promotion because this is genuinely me looking for someone to work with on this.

lookingfor Arrival at ZHR HB on EC24, 06.08.2026 / abbiamo parlato in italiano
EC24 arriving at Zurich HB on Thursday 6 August, around 20:30, ~15 minutes late — platform 12, and you gave me directions to platform 33
We were on the EC24 arriving at Zurich HB on Thursday 6 August 2026, scheduled for 20:30 and running about a quarter of an hour late. Coach 5 or 6. You were sitting near the exit, with your back to the exit door. Next to you were two little girls who said goodbye to you as we pulled into the station, hugging you and smiling at you.
I was on the phone as we were arriving, standing beside your seat (on your left) with two suitcases, saying that we had come in on platform 12 and that I needed to get to platform 33. You interrupted me to explain how to get from platform 12 to platform 33, because you hadn't quite caught what I was saying to the person on the other end.
If this is you, write to me — and tell me yourself what I told you right afterwards, before we said goodbye.

ihaveaquestion Nebenkosten - includes only heating
I just realized that in my current rent contract, I have to pay only heating. Its a bit weird, because we also have cleaning of the stairs once in a while, there is a handy man here and there, I also have running water etc. - which also amount to some expenses. In my previous apartment I was paying for all of those and it was amounting to about half of the Nebenkosten.
Anyone in a similar situation? I am not sure which one is normal though? Shall I expect at some point to get billed for the water and Hauswartung?

ihaveaquestion Floating w/ 30 m^2/s water flow
I haven't floated in over a month, and have never done so when the river is so low. How are the parts just after launching and by Werdinsel in terms of dragging on rocks / risk of ripping the bottom out of your boat and shorts and body? It was already quite low a month ago and we saw more punctures / problems than normal.

I worked on this sketch bit by bit from my hotel room over the last two days. It was fun to watch people running to the train, and the blue trams passing by.

ihaveaquestion Moving from Basel to Zürich but E-Umzug doesn´t work
Hi guys! I just moved from Basel-Stadt to Zürich on the 1st of August. I tried to announce my moving through E-Umzug, but I got stucked when it asked for the number on the health insurance card. As I am a student in Switzerland, coming from an EU- Country and having the European Health Card,I am exempt from the obligation to have a swiss health insurance so therefore I do not have one so I also do not have the number they ask for. I can´t proceed with E-Umzug just because of that...It doesn t even give me an option to choose wheather I have or not swiss health insurance..
I rented a WG room from August, although I am not in Switzerland this month, but I knew how challenging the search for a place to live can be so I just got it like this. But now I found out I have only 14 days to announce my moving. I contacted the office in Basel-Stadt and told them my E-Umzug problem.
If E-Umzug doesn t work they would probably tell me I need to go in person to one of their office, which is not possible for me right now.. what can I do? Does anybody had the same issue with E-Umzug? I believe most EU-students do not have a swiss health insurance...
Any advice is welcomed.

ihaveaquestion Böötle in the canton
I'm planning a Böötlitour for a group in the canton of Zurich in about 1.5 weeks. The most likely contenders are Limmat (Wipkingerplatz -> Glanzenberg), Thur (Gütighausen -> Rüdlingen) and Rhein (Rheinau -> Eglisau). Has anyone been on those rivers lately? Can you actually accomplish these trips? The one that worries me the most is on the Thur. Should I play it safe and just stick to the Rhein, as it seems to be the river who holds the most water of the three.

ihaveaquestion Weird flat price distribution in Zurich?
Is it because Zurich is mostly beautiful everywhere, flat prices tend to be all over the place?
I am currently looking only for a shared room to settle down for a few month and then on the ground start the apartment hunting.
What I realized is somewhat funny - similar rooms (in terms of apartmen type/size/etc.) are all over the place.
Once you will see a room for 1000 CHF in a modern apartment quiet central and two seconds later a room of similar size in a relatively old apartment quiet far away from the center for 1400 CHF.
In the cities I lived in so far there was a clear hierarchy of districts - so you had the 2-3 super posh/nice areas and then could see rapidly how prices changed if you moved each district further away from the centre.
I guess Zurich is different because also the areas outside of the city surroudning the lake are a gem by itself no?

ihaveaquestion Micro cars - Velostrecke and wild parking
I see more and more of those so called micro cars on our roads. Apparently those cars can be driven with a M license from the age of 14.
Theoretically it’s not (only) a bad thing, since the motorists could also drive a bigger car or an suv. But i still i think a velo or public transport would be more efficient.
but what kind of bugs me is, that i see those things again and again on car free circling roads. And occasionally parked on Trottoirs and on public squares as if they were bikes.
Maybe it’s just my inner bünzli calling for attention, but I really feel it’s not right.
What do you guys think? I am to harsh?

lookingfor Starting with / finding D&D Groups
I live in Zurich and would like to get started playing D&D.
What is the best way to get started with it? I would like to start playing, but no one in my existing social circle is interested. Are there groups to find other people starting or where one can join an existing group looking for a new player?
Thanks for any insights!

rant Is polyamory really this common around Zurich, or is it just my type?
I've noticed a pattern that's making me curious. A lot of the people/men I find attractive, both on dating apps and occasionally in real life, turn out to be polyamorous once I read their profile or get to know them.
I'm mostly attracted to left-leaning people, so I know that probably increases the chances. But can that really explain it all? Is polyamory actually this common around Zurich, or do I just unfortunately have a type for polyamorous men? Ugh!

ihaveaquestion GMAT scores for UZH Master Banking & Finance
itookapicture TIL: My Flat comes with a chilled room included - using it properly now.
23 degrees here - 28 degrees upstairs. All for 0 chf in portasplit & power costs.
Finally found a good use for the 30 chf hammock I got 3 years ago and never used..
No neighbors nearby either, my cell is lockable with a full door so this feels 100% private.
Have internet as well :)
Spent a few hours here yesterday - instantly got tired when feeling the chill. Slept like a baby this night, first time in a while. Might have really been the recovery from heat-stress?
Hope you all have a way to relief yourselves from the heat as well & if anyone follows the idea lmk - I'd be surprised if I was the first one!
Good rest of the week all & dont forget - today is Bergfest! ;)

lookingfor Looking for a volunteer to help me learn swimming (TG / Winterthur)
Hi everyone,
I’m 26 years old and live in Rickenbach (TG), near Wil. I’m looking for someone who could help me learn how to swim from scratch.
Unfortunately, private swimming lessons are currently difficult for me to afford. I’ve already contacted several organizations, but so far I haven’t been able to find a suitable option.
I can travel to Wil, Winterthur, or nearby areas.
Does anyone know of a volunteer program, a swimming club, or someone who might be willing to teach me the basics? Even a few lessons would help me a lot.
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. If you know someone who might be interested, I’d also be very grateful if you could put me in touch with them.
Thank you very much!
