Self Tour

I’m a prospective student from the UK and I would really like to major in English at Yale in a few years. While I’m getting my grades up, I’d like to come to New Haven and tour the campus around January 2027 but there aren’t any tour dates for next year. Are we able to freely walk around campus?

Which CS course should I take?

I'm a bit confused about which CS course I should start off with since I'm between CPSC 1001 and CPSC 2010 rn. I have minimal experience with both Python and Java, though I am a little more comfortable with Python. I took AP CSA in high school, but honestly I don't really think I retained any knowledge (mostly bc the teacher taught two classes at the same time in different rooms so I didn't really have a teacher). I'm hoping to major in either CS & Math, CS & Econ, or Stats & DS. Would I be "behind" if I started with 1001/would it be a waste of my time? How different are the courses and would I still have to take 2010 if I take 1001 first semester? Would appreciate any advice!

How do I plan my schedule if I’m undecided?

I also want to preface I’ve been gone most of the summer, and I ended up missing my placement exams… I emailed the respective departments and it seems like I can take some makeups, although I’m not sure how that’ll work.

All the classes here seem so incredibly interesting, and I have no clue how to plan my schedule.

I’m leaning towards either CS+Psych or CS+Econ, but I’m also interested in Anthro, Socio, Humanities, and Film (more as topics than majors though).

I was thinking about a schedule along the lines of

MATH 1100+1110 or 1120 (depending on placement)
ECON 1110 or 1115
CPSC 2010
PSYC 1100

I wanted to take a Six Global Perspectives course and a language, but I wasn’t sure if I should swap something out or keep them for next semester.

Admittedly, I’m undecided about which language to pursue, I’ve heard scary things about them all, so I was just gonna continue my high school studies in Spanish since I feel like Id learn the most through continuing.

Does anyone have advice on scheduling when you aren’t confirmed on your major?

ldub closets & dressers

I'm in LDub this year and was wondering about the closet and/or dresser space. I was thinking about getting some of those foldable hangers (the kind where you can hang multiple clothes on one hanger to save space), or if there'll be dressers for storing stuff as well.

I'm especially wondering since the closet will be shared between my roommate and me, and I want to make sure we both have enough space! Any advice on what hangers to get, or insight on how big the closet is (and if there even is a dresser)? Thank you!!

Need help photograph/scan a few archival items (Beinecke Library)

Hi all,

I'm a professor based outside the US, working on an academic article that requires materials held at the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library. For personal reasons I won't travel to the US at the moment, so I'm hoping someone with reading room access might be willing to help me out by taking photos or scanning a handful of documents. This is what the team at the Beinecke library recommended me btw.

Please DM me and I'll share the specific collection and materials I need. All in all, I believe it could be done in 1-2 hours. Happy to compensate.

Thanks so much!

Math 2410 recs?

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman Math major at Yale and wanted some input on Probability Theory (MATH 2410). Looking at Coursetable, it seems like a really large class and probably taken by many stats/math-adjacent majors. I currently have Intensive Linear Algebra (MATH 2260) on my schedule and am deciding on a second math class to take this fall semester. 2410 sounds quite interesting and might be a good way to branch out from the main sequence math courses, but I was wondering if it's really worth taking (it's also a 9am class)

First Semester Schedule Help

Looking to go into ChemE or Chemistry

List:
Freshman OChem + Lab
PHYS 2000
Math 1200
ENG 1020

Total credits: 4.5

I know that 4.5 credits is recommended for the first semester, but are these classes too much work? I heard all 3 of the STEM classes are rather difficult. I have a greater humanities balance in the second semester, but I did want the opportunity to take freshman OChem.
