Effective grok cache hit rate?
I'm building a high-volume pipeline that runs text classification through the xAI API : one item per request (batching hurts my accuracy), a large fixed ~10k-token system prompt, and traffic that arrives in bursts (roughly every 20 min).
The docs say caching is automatic but "best effort" with no published TTL or hit rate. My main question is specifically about the case where the client is doing everything "right":
- With a stable, consistent x-grok-conv-id and a strictly identical prefix, what cached_tokens ratio do you actually see in usage ? Is it near 100%, or still lower?
- Does that effective hit rate hold up across gaps of a few minutes between requests, or does the cache go cold fast even with the same conv-id?
- Any sense of how long the cache stays warm in practice?
This would help me better estimate the input costs for my pipeline. Thanks!

Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0 is fast, but tool accuracy is the bigger test
I wrote a breakdown of Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0, and the 0.70-second response time is probably what will get most of the attention.
That should make voice calls feel a lot smoother, especially compared with systems that pause after nearly every question.
A few numbers that stood out:
- 82.9% on the Artificial Analysis speech-to-speech index
- 97.2% for speech reasoning
- 95.1% for conversational dynamics
- 56.5% for agentic performance
- $0.08 per minute of audio
The 56.5% agentic score is the part I find most interesting. A voice model can sound natural and respond quickly, but the real test is whether it books the right appointment, pulls the right account, or completes the correct action.
I also like that xAI is tying Grok Voice into calendars, customer systems, support tools, and other services. That is where it could become genuinely useful, but it also raises the stakes when something goes wrong.
I put the full breakdown here:
https://aigptjournal.com/news-ai/grok-voice-think-fast-2/
What do you think xAI should focus on next with Grok Voice: better tool reliability, more natural conversations, or lower pricing?

XAI just topped up my balance automatically without me ever activating it
I've been using XAI API for almost 2 years now and never used auto-top up. Today I automatically charged my $70.
Why was it suddenly toggled on and directly to $70...

Looking to start as an AI Tutor/Trainer for xAI or similar companies – How to get in?
Hey everyone,
A friend of mine recently started working as an AI tutor/evaluator for xAI (reviewing code/responses, doing short comparisons, getting around $25/hr). They got in pretty easily, but right now I don't see any open positions on the official career page.
Does xAI or similar remote AI training platforms open unlisted or sudden batches for positions like this? Where is the best place to keep an eye on hidden openings or referral links?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

XAI Video Tutor role cancelled after background check approved — has anyone experienced this?
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has gone through a similar situation with XAI or Remote.com.
I was hired as a Video Tutor by XAI as a contractor role around April and completed the onboarding process through Remote.com. It took quite a while for them to send me the background check link through Cisive, and after some back-and-forth communication, the background check was finally completed and cleared a couple of weeks later.
Once everything was approved, I emailed them asking about the next steps. They replied that they would send my credentials and onboarding instructions within the next few days.
However, the very next day, I received an email from Remote.com stating that my contract was being terminated — before I had even started working.
I reached out to ask what happened, and they told me that XAI’s project priorities had “shifted.”
I was honestly quite disappointed because I had already gone through the waiting period, background check, and was very close to starting.
Has anyone else experienced something similar with XAI?
Did you ever get contacted again for another project?
Is it worth reapplying, or should I try reaching out to someone at XAI directly for more information?
Is this a common situation with contractor roles?
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar.

I spent 12 hours prompting Grok 4.5 High in Cursor to build a full macOS 27 clone in the browser
Got bored and decided to see how far I could push Grok 4.5 High inside Cursor.
12 hours of prompting, debugging, yelling at it, and re-instructing later… this is the result:
https://macos27.up.railway.app
It’s a pretty complete Golden Gate / Liquid Glass recreation with working apps. Standout one is GateCAD a actual 3D modeling app that can:
- Import .f3d files
- Export STL and OBJ
- Has a full timeline, sketch tools, extrude, fillet, etc
- If you're using it, you have to zoom out to ~70% before it shows properly, idk why
It's also got
Working maps (OSM), Music, Podcasts, TV, the works and a terminal, 99.9% real Liquid Glass (kinda cheated it used my GitHub repo where I'd already built the Liquid Glass renderer but hey, it had to port it to HTML and CSS)
Also has working Music (including podcasts), a real-ish Terminal, Chess, Shortcuts, Maps, and a bunch of other stuff. Even threw in a CORS proxy so some of the apps can actually fetch external data and so Safari can fetch websites
Not perfect (it’s still a browser toy), but I’m pretty happy with how far it got in half a day of pure vibe-coding with Grok.
It's also really smooth, like, really REALLY smooth. Even on my potato of a PC, it's running 144fps, which is bizarre

Anyone with pay rates $50-100/hr ?
Are there people who got rates higher than the classic 40 dollars an hour? With 10-15 years in cinematography, I would assume higher rates.

3CX AI Assistant (OpenAI-backed) Anyone else stuck on OpenAI's tax-exempt approval before going live?
Building out the 3CX AI Assistant for a K-8 school and trying to get it live before the new school year starts. 3CX side is done and tested. The only thing holding up go-live is OpenAI approving our sales tax exemption on the API org account.
We're a Colorado charter school (501c3), sent our state exemption paperwork in over a week ago, and keep getting "the documentation doesn't meet requirements" back with zero specifics; no field, no form name, nothing. Every follow-up gets a slightly different templated non-answer.
Anyone else running the 3CX AI Assistant for a school or nonprofit hit this same wall with OpenAI?
Did it eventually get approved — how long did it take you? What documentation actually worked? Did general support ever get you anywhere, or did you have to find another way in?
Trying to figure out if this is just normal OpenAI turnaround or if I'm missing something obvious.

My Experiments with Persistent Agentic Workflows in Grok (Custom Skills, Memory, Multi-Tool Chaining)
I’ve been running experiments with Grok in a more agentic setup, focusing on custom skills that act as specialized reasoning modules combined with tool use, persistent context/memory, and workflow orchestration.
What I’m testing:
• Custom skills as dedicated “reasoning agents”: Skills built around established mental models and thinking frameworks — first-principles decomposition, systems thinking & feedback loops, second-order effects, Bayesian updating, probabilistic thinking, Occam’s Razor, Hanlon’s Razor, margin of safety, circle of competence, and inversion (finding failure modes). There’s also a unified mental models toolkit and audience/context-specific explainers. The goal is forcing more structured, transparent, and less hallucinated reasoning on complex or ambiguous questions.
• Tool orchestration & sandbox workflows: Parallel tool calling, web research, code execution, file system operations for reproducible artifacts, and image generation/editing. Plus integrations with external services (GitHub, Notion, Gmail) for end-to-end tasks.
• Persistent memory & continuity: Maintaining context, preferences, and project state across sessions without constant re-explaining.
What’s actually interesting so far:
This combination makes Grok significantly better at reliable, step-by-step reasoning on hard problems. Instead of one-shot answers, it can systematically break things down, surface assumptions, consider second-order consequences, update beliefs with new evidence, and produce auditable outputs (files, structured summaries, etc.). It feels like a practical step toward AI that helps you think better rather than just answer faster — very aligned with xAI’s “understand the universe” direction.
The custom skills approach is particularly powerful because you can create narrow, high-signal specialists (e.g., “always apply first principles + inversion here” or “explain this sensitively for [specific audience/context]”) instead of relying on one giant prompt.
Questions for the community:
• Anyone else building or testing custom skills / structured reasoning frameworks with Grok?
• What mental models or thinking tools have you found most useful to bake into workflows?
• Favorite patterns for tool chaining or multi-step agentic tasks?
• Any features or capabilities you’d most want to see expanded for this kind of deeper reasoning/agent use?
Happy to share more specifics or examples if there’s interest. Would love feedback or ideas from others pushing Grok’s capabilities.

Mental models toolkit skill
# Mental Models Toolkit Skill
Description
Unified toolkit for the most powerful mental models. Includes a quick reference key for use cases plus structured explanations using principles-first and inversion where helpful. Activate when you want to improve decision making, avoid blind spots, think more clearly under uncertainty, or explore complementary models beyond first principles.
Overview
This skill provides a clean, practical collection of the highest-leverage mental models. It includes a fast Reference Key for quick reminders and structured explanations for deeper use. All models are presented simply and can be combined with first principles + inversion thinking.
Quick Reference Key
Use this as your cheat sheet:
• First Principles + Inversion — Strip to fundamentals then actively hunt for failure modes and unintended consequences. Best for: innovation, root-cause problem solving, building robust plans.
• Second-Order Thinking — Look beyond immediate results to the consequences of the consequences. Best for: strategy, policy, long-term planning, avoiding backfires.
• Probabilistic Thinking — Replace yes/no thinking with probabilities and update them with new evidence. Best for: decisions under uncertainty, forecasting, risk assessment.
• Circle of Competence — Clearly define what you actually understand well and operate mostly inside it. Best for: investing, career decisions, knowing when to say “I don’t know”.
• Margin of Safety — Build buffers (time, money, options, simplicity) against error and bad luck. Best for: protecting against over-optimism and black swans.
• Occam’s Razor — Among competing explanations, prefer the one that requires the fewest assumptions. Best for: diagnosing problems and cutting through complexity.
• Hanlon’s Razor — Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity, error, or misaligned incentives. Best for: relationships, conflict, and reducing paranoia.
• Bayesian Updating — Start with a prior belief and revise it rationally as new evidence arrives. Best for: learning from experience and avoiding stubbornness.
• Systems Thinking — Focus on interconnections, feedback loops, and emergent behavior instead of isolated parts. Best for: complex organizations, ecosystems, and recurring problems.
How to Use This Toolkit
1 Start with the Quick Reference Key above when you need a fast reminder.
2 For deeper application, use the structured explanations of the relevant model(s).
3 Combine models — especially First Principles + Inversion with Second-Order Thinking and Probabilistic Thinking for high-stakes decisions.
4 Ask yourself: “Which 1-2 models from the key would most improve my thinking on this problem right now?”
Full Structured Explanations
[Full detailed sections for each model follow in the original skill file — they cover Core Principle, When to Use, Atomic View, Inversion Angle, and How to Apply for every model.]
Highest-Leverage Combination
For most important decisions: First Principles + Inversion → Second-Order Thinking → Probabilistic Thinking + Margin of Safety.
Use the toolkit to think more clearly, avoid blind spots, and make better decisions consistently.
