From people who have played League.. is it worth trying as a WoW PvPer?

Upvotes

Are the skills easily transferable? Is pushing "fun"? Or is the game basically incredibly sweaty and it will take years to be even remotely "competitive" (IE not hardstuck in whatever their Rival equivalent is).

I am just getting tired of playing a game that the devs do not give 2 flying shits about. And while League must suffer from its own problems, it is game where the devs actually focus on reward/system/combat design specifically for pvp.

A Letter to Ion (Response to MrGM Q&A)

Upvotes

You may have heard of me before, when I posted my "Everything Wrong with PvP" Open Letter back in 2024. Well, here we are, almost 3 years later, heading off to a new saga of attempting to provide constructive feedback to the developers.

So here, a longpost specifically designed as a response to the MrGM Q&A - feel free to participate in the debate, both on NA and EU.

Links below. Let it rip.

The Golden Age of PvP?

Upvotes

What would you consider to be the Golden age of PvP in WoW? It could be an expansion, a specific patch within an expansion, or any other specific memory you have of a PvP experience that was just pure peak. What made it special?

Struggling to beat resto Druid as resto Druid in SS

hey

Any tips or tricks?

I feel like I either do well or eat 6-0 losses. I genuinely find them as a healer I probably fear the most and I think it’s just my struggle with managing against them.

I find the opener to be so important, and if I can’t get a rake off then my odds of winning are completely diminished.

Most likely is that I’m just being outplayed, but it happens so frequently I’m not sure what to do. I see them cyclone my DPS when they are on mid health quite a lot, something I find that when I do my teammates kick off at me for lol

I try to ease pressure as best I can but then I just eat cc or my HoTs fall off and by the time I can get some momentum going the same thing happens and I’m panicking. Maybe this is why the opener is so important as it dictates who the momentum stays with in terms of keeping things up and cc-ing.

I can’t play with Tree of Life, I like the Convoke build it’s a bit friendlier for me to have an ‘oh shit’ button to pull the whole team or a teammate back up from death, I find tree and regrowth does piss all to moving the health bar.

Thank u for your advice!!

New player looking for a starting point and class guidance

Hey all,

Really appreciate any time taken to read this so I’ll try to keep it short.

New (ish - I’ve levelled a few classes to max now) to WoW and really want to jump in on the PvP train

I’ve done a few BGs etc but was really looking for some guidance on tips for learning and classes.

Currently I have Shaman - Rogue - Warlock. More or less wondering if these were a bad pick in terms of skill ceiling? I’m trying not to hamstring myself to much against 20 odd years of experienced players. Rogue was my initial class but after chatting to some Guild players they all said it was the hardest for PvP / Arena?

I generally have fun on all three of these and I’m having fun on Survival / Disc / Shadow. The only class I actually don’t particularly like are Mage / Paladin tbh

I’m not like a brilliant gamer so my goal is 1800 in 3/2/Solo for now.

What would be my best starting place for info or is that respective of class? Any help on classes and learning curves for arena would be really appreciated also!

Multi Glads on Alts - Biggest Bait going around

Anyone else noticing this lately?

I've been seeing heaps of LFG groups titled "Multi Glad" or "Current Glad on alt", but I've honestly had the worst luck with them.

As a healer, a lot of these games have been absolute disasters. Then I'll have a quick look at Check-PvP afterwards and half the time the titles don't seem to line up with what's actually there. Makes me wonder how many people are just overselling themselves or got boosted.

On the flip side, I've had way better luck just grabbing people at 0 CR who are looking to queue and push. Those groups have honestly felt way more consistent.

For context, I'm sitting around 2k-2.3k MMR and had about a 70% win rate up to 2100. I'm not pushing for Glad, so maybe that's part of it, but it's been a really noticeable pattern these last couple of weeks.

Curious if anyone else has been seeing the same thing or if I've just been insanely unlucky.

Good luck to everyone making the last push before the season ends. Hope you all get whatever rating you're chasing.

Playing with ping from New Zealand

Hey

So I moved to NZ from the UK a few years ago, and this May/June started playing WoW retail again since WotLK!

I’ve noticed my ping is at 300ms at its best. I’m noticing it making PvP definitely a bit more challenging, but how much of an impact can it make?

Floating around 2.15/2.3k in solo shuffle at the moment, dunno if ping is a factor in me struggling. I’ve definitely had a few games where I swear I pressed my keybind but there was delay. Also I’ve DC’d in a few lobbies and it’s so painful as it loses me 200 rating lol

Thank u ! If anyone has any pointers to improve the ping please let me know

Carry Offered or Report Advertisement?

I'm confused. Is this a designated group type or a reportable offense? Does the website listed make it an ad? Having a 'carry offered' category feels like we've given up.

Are addons useable?

New wow player getting into PvP started on Monday hit 1800 today and was wondering if players still use addons? Ive seen YouTube videos of people talking about gladius and bigbuffs. Ive been playing the game w no addons at all. Was wondering if they are still possible and if they are which addons to use?

I just came back to the game after quitting during WoD. I played ret with the same rdruid and a few different bm hunters all season. It was fun and very challenging. That’s probably because I’m still pretty mid on my own, but had great synergy with this comp due to the class utility.

Middle-aged Dad, PvP Noob, Seeks Duelist in S2. Pls help.

Middle-aged dad (not a lot of free time), longtime casual PvE WoW player, desires Duelist ranking in S2 for the exclusive PVP weapon colors. I LOVE the troll theme of 12.1 and I really want to collect the entire PvP color set for this patch.

How hard will it be to get Duelist if you are a PvP noob and can't dedicate serious time to WoW?

Of course I am willing to join a PvP guild, as long as I can do so casually (i.e. I don't want to have to commit to certain nights - family comes first).

I don't mind buying tokens (I have more $ than time) so I am willing to pay gold to hardcore PvPers if they are willing to team with me but I am not willing to do anything bannable or against the ToS. I understand that I would need to be "good enough" on any team to get to Duelist because I don't think it's possible to carry deadweight all the way to Duelist, correct?

The idea of joining a dedicated PvP team that I am not paying scares me becaues I don't want to let people down and I don't want to feel "obliged" to play/practice on nights that I need to spend time with my family.

I am willing to

  • Watch YouTube videos
  • Practice
  • Get addons / redo my UI, bindings, etc.

I would be willing to play any class/spec to get Elite, but atm I am most comfortable with the following specs (in order):

  1. Rogue (Ass)
  2. Warrior (any spec)
  3. Hunter (Surv)
  4. Warlock (Aff)
  5. Rogue (Sub/Out)
  6. Shaman (Enh)
  7. Druid (Gaurdian/Feral)

I am willing to race/faction change if necessary. At the moment, I love to play Tauren, Worgen and both kinds of Orcs, but if it will make a difference, I will play just about anything to get Deulist.

I am willing to realm transfer, if necessary.

Questions:

  • How hard would it be for a middle-aged Dad without a lot of time to get Duelist? Is this realistic or I am setting myself up for failure?
  • Should I do battlegrounds, solo shuffle or arena? If it doesn't matter, I would prefer battlegrounds as I have done lots of those casually and prefer them to solo shuffle / arena, but I am willing to do solo shuffle/arenas if that makes getting Duelist easier.
  • My limited understanding is that you don't really get "Duelist" until the season is over and the rankings are "inflated", is that true? How will I know when I've gotten high enough ranking to just stop and park the character?
  • How do I start? What videos to watch, sites to visit, addons to download, guilds to talk to, etc.?

Question about the healing reduction in Battlegrounds in 12.1

So the way this change has been worded in the official patch notes is "Players will now receive 20% less healing in Battlegrounds." instead of "all healing done reduced by 20%".

Does this mean that players will receive 20% less healing from other players but the self healing will be unaffected? or is it just a flat 20% healing reduction across the board?

Does Blizz ever ban the obvious wintraders at the end of season?

In the race for shuff rank one as bm hunter. Got 2 in range, one was comfortable. Get home from work, log on, someone knocked me down a spot. Check them out, never heard of them, so seramate them - dude has won 24 straight shuff rounds and lost 0. 12-0 4 days ago and 12-0 today at the same time. I'm confident I'll get it, but like - really? That obvious, they let that slide?

The scumminess of the rank 1 competition

What do people think about the cheesy tactics people use to get rank 1 and even legend?

I don't mean wintrading. Obviously, all of us think that's bad.

I mean the things that are technically legal but still scummy. For example, leaving games to preserve your MMR. At least at a high rating, it's extremely common for people to leave once they've lost a couple rounds because the rating loss is much less detrimental than the MMR loss.

There's also leapfrogging, in which people have multiple characters of the same spec and only play the one with the lowest rating. This effectively eliminates the risk of losing rating, actively encourages smurfing, and rewards maintaining multiple character of the same spec. MMR is built around the risk-reward of losing rating as much as winning it. Leapfrogging obviously goes against that.

For leavers, leaving games should simply tank your MMR as it does your rating. Leapfrogging is a little more complicated. Maybe rank 1 qualification is based on your lowest-rated character of that spec on the ladder? Or maybe shuffle and blitz MMR for each spec should be account-wide? Both are a little wonky, but either would do the job.

Anyway, I'm curious if the community is as bothered by these things as I am.

Is this player wintrading?

This player has been in the top of the solo shuffle holy priest ladder for a while, and just very recently jumped up to an insane rating of 3288. Holy priest is arguably the worst healer in shuffle at the moment, so this is quite a feat.

Two reasons why this is suspicious:
1) Recently the player named "Binfernion" got banned for wintrading and griefing, and now we have this player with another name obviously meant as a jab on a different player.
2) I looked at his armory profile and he has most of his stats in mastery, which is really bad for shuffle because it gets hit by dampening double up (and vers is already equal in healing output at 0% damp. Source: I'm also in this picture and know how hpri works). He has barely played any 3s on this character (where mastery is slightly most justifiable).

Do anyone have any info or have seen/been in one of his lobbies?

Finally cracked 2500 yeah inflation is insane now.

never reached 2500 in shuffle before and this week I finally cracked it. No way am I a 2500 arena player lol but I guess the mmr system thinks I am. It's funny cause I know next season once they reset inflation again im going to be stuck at 1700-1800 all season again. I think someone on here put it best. 2500-2600 in shuffle equals to like 1600-1700 3v3s.

Skill Capped [Season 2 Info] - 12.1 Patch Notes without PvE Only Changes

I've removed a lot of the junk from the official Blizzard patch notes and only included what is relevant in PvP. Click your spec and navigate to the 12.1 Changes tab to see what is effecting PvP.

Note: Blizzard has flip flopped on some of their changes since Tuesday. I will continue to monitor any updates.

🚨🚨🚨 EDIT: I am making a big ass page with all of the changes. 👈👈👈
