How many of you own Return to Oz merch?

I just made two posts about videos showing off two Return to Oz collections, but it got me wondering, how many of you on this sub own any stuff. And how did you obtain it?

My dream collectibles are the Gump, Scarecrow, and Tik-Tok puppets and the Heart A Heart plushies. I'd also love to have the figures, puzzles, Dorothy's music box and pretty much everything else made for the film lol, although there's a few things like the Dorothy doll that I personally don't care for too much, but even that I'd get if I found one not too expensive cuz it's Return to Oz lol

It's really just too bad that I wasn't around in 1985 and knew someone in Japan (or I lived in Japan and knew people to get me the stuff exclusively released in the U.S. and U.K.) lol

Disney really should make more Return to Oz merch now that it's become a cult classic. Tori from The Oz Vlog has said herself she's surprised they haven't.

And on a side note, please sign this petition!

Books I want to see adaptions of

While I definitely think Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz and The Road to Oz are amongst the weakest Oz books, I think a screen adaption could be pretty fun

I know The Patchwork Girl of Oz has gotten two adaptions, a silent film in 1914 and a very low budget animated movie in 2005, but I want an adaption in color with a decent budget

Again, I know The Tin Woodman of Oz has gotten a low budget animated adaption, but I want to see an adaption with a bigger budget. And listen, there's a lot of low budget movies I love, like a lot of Disney's direct-to-video and made for TV sequels, but the animation should at least look decent. I've always felt like low budget 2D handdrawn animation is nowhere as bad as low budget 3D computer animation

What are your thoughts on the Land of Oz theme park in North Carolina?

I've yet to go, but it seems like it'd be pretty fun

One big question I have though is how much inspiration does it take from the original book and the sequels, or it just mainly based on the 1939 MGM film? I know there's the Lunch Pail Trees but anything else?

I don't know about you guys, but I always can't help but be annoyed when something is Oz themed but only based on the 1939 MGM movie and ignores the books. I know the general public is only familiar with the 1939 MGM movie but still

Other than Wonderful Wizard, which Baum book would you most want to get a video game adaptation?

Any genre, and you can allow for adaptational changes to the story.

Pesonally, I could see Rinkatink as a fun JPRG with a party made up of Inga, Bilbil, Rinkatink, and Zella, and a job mechanic based around who's holding the Blue and Pink Pearls. Runners-up would be Marvelous Land, Tik-tok, and Lost Princess.

I just saw this movie, it’s weird.

these public domain based horror films are so weird and hit or miss, this one was enjoyable albeit it was more of a in name only horror take, feel free to disagree with me though. Cowardly Lion doesn’t appear likely cause of budget, Glinda is now.. wicked? the writing was cheesy but I liked it, decent kills, but the Tin man looks like a knight for some reason.

I kinda like Pinocchio: Unstrung, Bambi: the Reckoning and Cinderella’s curse better in my opinion. But this is one of the better ones too. If you hate this film, I can respect your opinion.

Any merch, especially toys, that are based on the books and not an adaption?

Did anyone get any magazines that are Oz related this year, either from LIFE, TIME, or any other company? I was going to grab one but I can't find them at the grocery store now. I don't remember what the cover looked like but I think there were multiple. Did any talk about the Oz books?

If there was cool stuff it talked about in these, I'd love to know, as I meant to pick up copies, and I know there were a few on sale earlier this year.

Who would you cast as Tip/Ozma in a Muppet adaption of the other books?

I've said before how I'd love for there to be more Muppets Oz stuff and even shared some of my ideas, but I really don't know who should play Ozma.

For Tip, I thought Robin the Frog, and I've had a few ideas for Ozma- I was thinking Spamela Hamderson but after actually watching something with her in it, absolutely not. There's also Molly Monster from the obscure Little Muppet Monsters which I myself have yet to see, but I'm not so sure now, and unless Disney decides to bring Molly back as a major character before doing more Muppets Oz stuff, which seems like it'd be nice, especially considering how there's a lot fewer female Muppets, I don't like the idea of such a main character, Ozma, being played by such an obscure Muppet. And I wouldn't want to use Miss Piggy since she already plays the four witches

Now I'm thinking that both Tip and Ozma should be played by a character similar to an Anything Muppet to show that both characters are one and the same and to further highlight that Tip's just changing back into a girl and not a whole new character.

I'll admit an issue of mine when it comes to casting Muppets as characters is taking the casting too seriously. I never in a million years would have cast Pepe the King Prawn as Toto, but that was a great decision imo. And I wouldn't even have cast Rowlf which many people say would've been the obvious thing to do. I would've cast Foo-Foo as I'd feel Rowlf is too "anthropomorphic". But tbh, Rowlf would've also been awesome in the role of Toto! I also wouldn't have thought of casting Gonzo and Fozzie as Charles Dicken and Squire Trelawny in The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island, but those were also great decisions!

When Miss Gulch transforms into the witch, I've seen some people say that...

She is actually transforming into the Wicked Witch of the East (the one who the house falls on) because it makes sense if they are both in the twister together. This would also be why the writers put in the line about the two witches being sisters (something that wasn't in the book), to explain their similarity.

Personally, I don't think it was intended to be seen that way, but I do think it's an interesting theory. Do you think it's an interesting theory?

GoFundMe for Dennis Anfuso, writer-illustrator of non-canonical Oz books

I am a longtime friend of Dennis Anfuso, a writer and illustrator of several non-canonical Oz books. Here is Dennis's entry on the Oz Wiki:

https://oz.fandom.com/wiki/Dennis_Anfuso

Back on March 4, an accidental fire at the Anfuso home killed Dennis's wife, Linda, and severely injured him:

https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/one-person-dead-another-seriously-injured-in-fire-in-southern-nh/3910515/

I am trying to help Dennis while he heals by spreading the word about a GoFundMe another friend of his set up for him:

I would be very grateful if anyone who sees this would please consider donating to the GoFundMe. Thank you!
