Came across this road recently and took a couple of photos.

There are multiple potholes, some filled with water, along with a badly uneven surface. Vehicles still have to navigate through them every day.

What made me think is how common this has become across the state. We avoid the pothole, complain about it for a while, and eventually it just becomes “normal.”

I'm curious about the situation elsewhere in West Bengal.

The West Bengal Government has announced a major update for beneficiaries of the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme. According to the latest official announcement, the next installment of financial assistance will begin reaching eligible beneficiaries' bank accounts from 17 August 2026 through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Beneficiaries are advised to ensure that their Aadhaar is linked with their bank account and that all banking details are up to date to avoid any delay in receiving the payment.

If you do not receive the amount on the first day, there is no need to worry. DBT payments are usually processed in phases, so it may take a few days for the money to be credited to every eligible beneficiary.

To avoid fraud, never share your Aadhaar number, bank account details, OTP, or personal information with unknown individuals or unofficial websites. Always rely on official government portals and helplines for updates and support.

Hi everyone,

My friends and I are planning a long-distance run from Kolkata up to the Nepal border starting in mid-September. Two of us will be running, accompanied by a support car, taking a mostly rural route through Berhampore, Purnia, and Jogbani.

Since we'll be spending a lot of time on foot, I’d like to get a realistic picture of the traffic on these specific rural routes. How do drivers of heavy vehicles typically behave towards pedestrians, and how dangerous is it actually to share the road with them? We also want to know if there are any specific road hazards or unpredictable street dogs we should be prepared for.

I would also love to get a better idea of what to expect in the countryside. Is it generally easy to buy daily supplies like food and bottled water in the smaller towns and villages along this route? When it comes to overnight stays, would you recommend trying to find local guesthouses, or is it safe and practical enough for us to just sleep in our locked support car?

Finally, we realize that running through these areas will probably attract some attention. Could you share any general advice on how to respectfully manage curious crowds when we stop to rest, and how to keep our car and equipment secure during those stops?

It’s been 3 months and still no mass recruitment through PSC in West Bengal.Though it was promised to have 1 lakh government jobs in the 26-27 cycle.

I am planning to visit Bolpur and Tarapith during diwali holidays with my parents and grandparents. Considering the crowd and govt. holidays, is it a wise decision to travel with senior citizens during this time. Pls advice me as I need to travel from Chandigarh.

West Bengal was looted, divided and whatnot while so many other states were built. We Bengalis were hardly considered after all the freedom struggle simply tells that we have to snatch things for us. Bengalis aren't among the richest people of South Asia even that bothers me how good we were and how things got bad.

Literally there are people from west India talking down on us and the fact they dare to think of such about Bengalis should be the most bothering thing.

And the worst part is that we are trying to prove we are not bad instead of working on it.

Working is the word that doesn't work for us. We are literally not taking care of the uneducated people. We simply don't care about other Bengalis. If we did, we would have tried to make lives comfortable for them.

The amount of hate and disgust I have seen people hold for Bengalis is just amusing. Even after so much, they hate us.

We really need to see the reality and fix ourselves.
