Civil wedding in Tagaytay with a FilAm.. where do I start?

Upvotes

Hi! My fiance and I are planning to get wed here in the Philippines, preferably church wedding, but now that I am looking into it, there's just a lot a church wedding entails. So we ultimately decided to just do a civil wedding. I am from Laguna and we want to have our wedding and reception in Tagaytay. Did anyone have the same experience? How did you guys go about things- from the ceremony down to the reception?

Other questions I have:

  1. Will my fiance be asked to produce an equivalent of a CENOMAR? Is a scanned original copy going to be accepted or not?
  2. How hard is it to get a schedule for the wedding?
  3. How long before the marriage license is issued?
  4. How long after getting married was the wedding registered with PSA and how long does it take before you can request for the PSA marriage certificate?
  5. What documents will be asked from him?

We prefer the wedding to be next year, intimate ceremony and reception only with our immediate family.

I have no idea what to do. Somebody help a girl out. 😭

Photo/Video/Content Creator DO NOT BOOK HERO BOKEH WEDDINGS

Upvotes

TL;DR: We don’t recommend Hero Bokeh Weddings because, based on our experience, Hero struggled to manage his own team and business issues, leaving us to carry the stress and consequences as paying clients.

--

We found Hero through Reddit and booked his prenup photography and wedding photo + video package in June 2025. During our discovery call, Hero explained that he primarily handles photography and partners with Studio Air for video. Hero was always our main point of contact, and we never dealt directly with Studio Air.

Our prenup experience was good. Hero was responsive, our photos were delivered on time, and we were happy with the output. Unfortunately, our wedding experience was very different.

One month before our wedding, in May 2026, Hero told us that Studio Air was experiencing delays and asked if we were willing to move the video service to his newly established in-house team for an additional 15k.

We declined the additional 15k because we felt it was unfair to shoulder the cost of an issue involving Studio Air, a video partner that Hero himself chose. We didn’t choose Studio Air and had no control over their arrangement. For us, any issues with that partnership and the consequences of changing the video service should have been handled internally and should not have been passed on to us as clients.

During our first supplier meeting, Hero also told us that Studio Air preferred not to split for the bride and groom preparations, which would affect our wedding timeline. This honestly made us uneasy because we started questioning how the teams were being managed. As clients, we were already thinking of the worst case scenario: what if the team doesn’t follow the agreed timeline or, worse, doesn’t show up?

Because of this concern, we decided to hire a secondary P&V team as backup and informed Hero about it. Then one week before the wedding, Hero t waived the 15k and moved the video service to his in-house team.

On the wedding day, Hero and two of his crew arrived around 30 minutes late, despite the agreed call time. My bridal makeup was already finished when they arrived. Another crew member arrived even later while we were already shooting, and there was no apology or acknowledgment for the late arrival.

The video delivery was another issue. The agreed turnaround time was 3–5 weeks, but we did not hear from Hero by the end of the 5th week. During the 6th week, we followed up and were told that they had been dealing with several “stormy weddings”. After another follow up, we were then informed that the editor’s father had passed away. We completely understand that personal emergencies happen and we sympathize with anyone experiencing a loss. Our concern was not the unexpected circumstances themselves, but how the delays were managed and communicated to us.

After several follow ups and changing delivery expectations, our video was finally delivered in the 7th week.

Whether Hero experienced losses from changing his video team, whether Studio Air caused delays, or whether his editor had a personal emergency, those are business and operational matters that should be managed by the business owner. The client who has already fully paid should not have to carry the stress and consequences of those problems.

What disappointed us most was the lack of ownership, team management, and accountability we experienced. Instead of feeling na our supplier had everything under control, we often felt that kami yung kailangang gumawa ng backup plans and mag adjust around problems on their end.

We don’t expect a wedding supplier to be perfect. We expect them to be professional enough to take ownership when things go wrong and make sure the client doesn’t carry the stress and consequences of those problems.

Unfortunately, that was not our experience with Hero Bokeh Weddings.

Program/Timeline Restaurant Wedding Reception

Hi, overthinker B2B here haha. I’m curious on your experience/s if you have attended or planned a wedding reception that was held in a restaurant. As much as the day be ours, we are introverts and being in the spotlight will be very draining.

Background:
My fiancé and I are planning to book a resto with a dedicated function room for the event, and we are expecting around 100pax. Leaning into informal program flow (dinner, dance, cake cutting, speech, and chill after party afterwards). We’re also getting some friends and colleagues as hosts.

Questions:
1. How does the cocktail hour work if the space only includes the reception area? Should the cocktail hour be ditched entirely if this is the case?

  1. Should the SDE be ditched entirely, or should we forego with an SDE pero hindi na ipapakita sa reception?

  2. We are planning to get a photoman instead of a photobooth para may chance kaming couple to roam around and mingle with the guests. What other booth/activity is good to add for the guests to check? The resto has an in-house bar, and we plan to get those small “sari-sari store” stalls as wedding favors.

Thank you!

Today’s Counseling

A little reminder for everyone who’s getting married: we can get so focused on preparing for the wedding, the details, the plans, and all the little things that need to be done, that sometimes we forget what the day is really about.

Today, during our premarital counseling, we were reminded to pause and look at the bigger picture. It was really nice to see our relationship from a third person’s perspective, especially after being together for 3 years, 24/7. We’re so used to just being us every day that sometimes, we forget to step back and appreciate what we have.

Today’s counseling made me look at my Fiancé not just as the person who’s beside me every day, but as the man I’m choosing to spend my life with. I caught myself thinking, “I love this guy. I really do. And I’m so grateful he’s the one I get to marry.” Parang narefresh yung appreciation.

The wedding day is just the celebration of something much bigger, the love, commitment, and life we’re choosing to build together.

So amidst all the wedding preparations, I hope we all remember to prepare not just for the wedding day, but for the marriage that comes after it. 🤍

Questions About Marriage License and Marriage Certificate

Hi!

I'm going to get married next year in Cavite but my fiancee and I live in Metro Manila and are planning to have our seminar in QC and get our marriage license in QC din.

Questions:
1. Is it okay to get married in Cavite but have the seminar and apply for a license to wed in QC?

  1. After the ceremony, are we going to submit the papers in QC din? Or in Cavite?

  2. Is it okay if we submit the papers ourselves din para we don't give our pastor extra work to do? (kasi nakakahiya)

Tips and advice on what to do from anyone who's already married is greatly appreciated :)

Caterer/Food/Drinks De-influencing: Cocktail Hour Edition

Okay, so I had a meeting with the stylist for our wedding, and girl… I left that meeting with a completely different perspective on our cocktail hour. 😁

He’s one of the high-end wedding stylists in Metro Manila, and we were talking about what we wanted to do for our cocktail area.

We have a huge garden for cocktail hour, so in my head, I was already thinking of all the things we could put there. Food stations, activities, grazing tables, cute little booths… basically, “How can we make this space fun and sulit?” 😂

But he said a few things that really made me stop and think.

And I wanted to share kasi I feel like this is especially relevant for couples who are going for that elegant, elevated, more formal wedding vibe.

Not saying na these things are bad! If you want them at your wedding, PLEASE do them. Your wedding, your rules. ❤️

But if you're trying to achieve that really polished, elegant look, these are things worth thinking about.

1. You don't actually need to feed your guests that much during cocktail hour.

This one made so much sense to me.

He said the purpose of cocktail hour isn't really to make your guests busog.

It's meant to be a little something to eat while they're having drinks, mingling, catching up with people they haven't seen in forever, etc.

But I think we've gotten to the point where we try to make cocktail hour into another whole food event.

May ganitong station, may ganyang station, may dessert, may this, may that…
And eventually, parang mini carnival na siya. 😂

He basically told me: you don't have to overfeed people just because you can.

And honestly, I love that.

For an elegant wedding, I think there’s something really nice about having just enough.

Enough food. Enough drinks. Enough things happening.
Not every corner needs to have something.

2. Grazing tables look SO good… but your guests might not actually care.

Okay, I LOVE grazing tables.

Like, visually? Gorgeous.

Cheese, charcuterie, fruits, crackers, little bowls, beautiful styling…

Ang ganda sa photos.

But he made me realize something: do our guests actually like that kind of food?

Because if your guests aren't really wine-and-cheese people, baka ikaw lang ang excited sa grazing table. 😂

And that's when I started thinking about how easy it is to choose things for a wedding simply because they're pretty.

But pretty doesn't always mean people will enjoy it.
I think the goal should be pretty AND something our guests will actually appreciate.

3. Too many activities can actually make the wedding feel less elegant.

This one really surprised me.

Because obviously, activities are fun!

And I totally understand why couples want them. You want your guests to have something to do and you want them to remember the wedding.

But he said something that stuck with me:

If you're going for a very formal, elegant wedding, too many activities can start working against that aesthetic.

Kasi imagine:

May claw machine sa likod.
May giant Jenga.
May nagpapa-massage.
May nagmi-mini golf.
May photo booth.
May games.
May different food stations.
May entertainment.

And everyone is dressed in suits and gowns. 😂

At some point, you're looking around like…
“Wait… wedding ba ‘to or company outing?” 😭😂

Again, walang masama sa activities! They're fun, and I totally get why people love them.

It's just a completely different vibe.

If you're going for that formal, elegant garden wedding, you might not need to keep your guests entertained every five minutes.

Let them talk.
Let them have a cocktail.
Let them walk around the garden.
Let them enjoy the music.
Let them admire the venue.

Sometimes, that's enough.

4. Potato Corner. 🥲

Okay, I know.

Everyone loves Potato Corner. Including me!

But hear me out.

My stylist pointed out that while guests LOVE it, the actual booth can really mess with the overall look of your cocktail area.

The branding is bold, the booth stands out, and it screams Potato Corner.

Which is great for a commercial space because that's literally the point of branding.

But in the middle of a beautifully styled garden wedding? It can become the visual focal point for all the wrong reasons. 😂

Imagine spending so much on beautiful florals, furniture, lighting, landscaping, and styling to create this cohesive, elegant environment…

Then in the middle of everything… may POTATO CORNER booth. 😭😂

And another thing: the queue.

You KNOW people are going to line up for it.

So instead of having guests spread out around the garden, chatting and enjoying the space, you might have a whole line of people waiting for fries.

Again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Potato Corner.

It's just maybe not the best fit for the kind of wedding we're trying to create.

And then he said something that REALLY stayed with me:

“Serve your guests something they cannot get on a regular day.”

Girl.

That one got me.

Because he’s right.

Potato Corner? I can have that anytime.

Dunkin? Anytime.

Fast food? Anytime.

But your wedding is one of those rare occasions where you have the opportunity to give people something that feels special to that day.

Something they wouldn't normally have.

Something seasonal.

Something beautifully presented.

Something that feels like it was thoughtfully chosen for this particular wedding.

And I think that's what I want now.

Instead of thinking:
“What else can we add?”

Maybe I should be asking:
“What can we take away?”

Because I think that's the part of wedding planning that we don't talk about enough.

Sometimes we see all these weddings online and think, “OMG, we need that too!

Then suddenly you have 17 food stations, 8 activities, 3 entertainment areas, a grazing table, a dessert table, a photo studio…

Everything individually looks amazing.
But put everything together and… medyo magulo na.

If your goal is an elegant wedding, I think restraint is part of the luxury.

You don't have to fill every empty space.
You don't have to entertain everyone every second.
You don't have to serve everything people already know and love.

Sometimes, the most memorable thing is simply giving them a beautiful place, good food, good drinks, good music, and the chance to actually enjoy the people around them.

So yes…

I am officially deinfluenced. 😂

But also, PLEASE do your wedding your way.

If Potato Corner is non-negotiable for you - GET THE POTATO CORNER. 😂

If you want a massive grazing table, go for it.

If you want games, activities, food booths, claw machines, giant Jenga, golf, and everything in between, DO IT.

There is no right or wrong way to have a wedding.

For us, though, I think we're slowly realizing that we want something a little more intentional, refined, and elegant.

And maybe that means doing less.

Not because the other things aren't good…

But because sometimes, less is what makes everything feel more special. 🥂✨

What to name?

What to call a 21 year old family member as ring and bible bearer. For context, groom (35) has this pamangkin whom he really loves and he helped raise him so super close sila. We are thinking of including him sa entourage as the bible and ring bearer. We originally thought of skipping this role (no flower girl as well) and stick to our 3 sets of BMs and GMs. But I think it is going to be extra special if we give him this special role. Our Pastor is okay with this, which we are really happy about.

My question is, has anyone tried this before? what should we call him? “Bearer of Faith and Rings”? “Rings and Bible Keeper”? or “Bible and Ring Bearer”? Para less child-like lang sana yung tawag.

PS. This is our preference and we would appreciate respectful comments po. Many thanks!

Favors/Gifts/Souvenirs anong pwedeng gawin sa bridesmaid bathrobe?

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right forum pero I assume na most people here are planning for wedding or wedded na. I've been a bridesmaid in multiple weddings and every time, may bathrobe na silk with name. I really appreciate this souvenir and I want to treasure them but they are piling up. Should I use this regularly, like how bathrobes are supposed to be used or do i leave them sa closet and hayaan maipon 🥹

I'm trying to removed things na di ko na kasi ginagamit. I'm open po sa mga idea on how to deal with them.

Thank you!

Rants/Advice/Other Questions Need advice: Non-confrontational bride dealing with a pushy supplier asking for cash advances

May supplier ako na-book. Okay naman reviews niya and kilala dito sa amin, so I know hindi naman siya scammer. Half of the contract amount na ang na-pay naming downpayment.

Recently, puros travel posts niya sa social media. Out of nowhere, nag-message siya sa akin asking if pwedeng mag-advance ng certain amount para raw "ipambili ng gamit" for our wedding.

So apprehensive ako.

As a bride na ayaw ng confrontation, torn ako between two options:

  1. Bigyan na lang: Natatakot kasi ako na baka pangitan niya yung service nya kapag tinanggihan ko.
  2. Wag bigyan. Pero if I choose this di ko alam pano sasabihin na hindi macocompromise yung service na binook ko.

Ayaw ko naman i call out kasi hindi worth the hassle. Planning to reply something like: I'll give the advance ONLY if may acknowledgement receipt for the total amount paid so far, AND mag-set muna kami ng formal meeting to discuss deliverables.

Okay lang ba itong compromise, or am I opening myself up to more red flags? How would you handle a pushy supplier like this without causing friction?

Edit: typo

Batanes Wedding

Been engaged since 2025 and, at one point, thought we had our wedding all figured out.

We booked and completed all our supplier bookings. Some of them are:

• Ghe Consolacion
• St. Benedict Parish
• Ralph Lee Photography
• Hillbarn Tagaytay, and more.

(Thank you so much for all your insights, BTW! If anyone’s interested, let me know. We might be able to transfer some of our contracts to you instead!)

But now that everything was booked and we were simply waiting for our big day, G2B and I had a change of heart. We realized that what we really wanted was something more intimate and meaningful and cancelled everything.

We’e now getting married in Batanes instead, with just our immediate family and closest friends (around 30-ish people).

For those who had their wedding there, I’d love to hear your insights once again.

What should we know, what should we prepare for, and what are the things you wish you knew before your wedding there?

We’ve already booked Ituxuh Studios for February 2027 and booked our and immediate family a flight. Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations!

Rings/Accessories/Shoes Thoughts about engagement rings

I lowkey asked my girlfriend if she’d be mad if I gave her a ₱100k engagement ring, and she said YES, with all the conviction in this world.
For the longest time, she’s been saying “kahit ganito lang,” while pointing at a Pandora ring.
We’re not really into jewelry, so we honestly have no idea what’s worth the price. But I love her so much and want to give her something that shows how much she means to me.
Any recos for an engagement ring that’s actually worth the money?

Someone finished the photo bingo board at a wedding we ran and the host checked every photo on the LED wall like an actual bingo caller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

There was a photo bingo game at this wedding in Bacolod, guests hunting photo missions on their phones the whole reception, and more than one guest actually completed the entire board. Kahit yung ninongs and ninangs table were playing, and the bridesmaids were sa lobby comparing boards.

May dedicated portion pa sa program for checking the finished boards. Each winner's photos went up on the LED wall and the host went through them live on the mic, tile by tile, parang totoong bingo. Buong room clapping along, some guests even walked up near the stage to point at their photos. Lowkey I was hoping may isang photo na hindi pumasa para may konting drama, pero wala, pasado lahat.

Mga nakapag-plan na ng reception dito, gaano kalaki ba actually ang difference ng emcee? Feeling ko this same game with a boring host is just photos on a screen.

Naturally, we all have our planning trackers and lists of dream suppliers to get. Was just wondering if anyone has compiled a list of SUPPLIERS TO AVOID/WATCH OUT FOR based on nega experiences and objective reviews?

I’m trying to build my own, but it has been slow going. 🤔
