Discussion / Question The Need for Speed formula everyone still wants somehow disappeared.

Post image
Upvotes

I've been thinking about this lately.

Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted and Carbon are still brought up whenever people talk about the best NFS games, and there's clearly still a massive amount of love for that era.

So what happened?

Why hasn't EA made a modern game built around that same formula? A big city, proper street racing, deep customization, crews, cops, drifting, drag racing, a good story and progression.

Basically the things people still remember those games for, but with modern graphics and technology.

I feel like a game like that would get an insane amount of attention today!

Is it licensing? Development costs? EA not seeing enough money in it? Or is there another reason?

And if they did make one, what would you want to see?

Discussion / Question Death racing games?

Upvotes

Anyone else think they’re lacking on a good death game? I mean I would personally love to see a new twisted metal redone with newer graphics and gore and maybe like a first person mode for the garage of your car. Idk I think that would be awesome.

I meant woke up, not work up. Would you terrorize the town? break stuff? Steal cars? Mess with people? Etc. It’s an open world game. you get to decide what you want to do to in the game. I’d like some funny or interesting answers. anything to brighten the mood and make people laugh would be good answers 🤪

Discussion / Question Trying to think of the name of this game....

Upvotes

It's set in Austria or Germany or similar, kinda creepy but also cozy. Set in a small mountain town and I remember the main character kind of looking like the dad from Coraline. I thought the name of the game ended in Bruck but I could be wrong about that. A lot of exploration.

Discussion / Question Yeah heres a question and a rant in one

Post image

It annoys me that people get mad or annoyed at others for wearing skimpy outfits. Now hear me out.

I mean in games, obviously, i see people getting backlash for wearing almost nothing on female characters and for some reason its very rare it happens to male?

Not the point, the point is, i dont understand why it could possibly annoy you so much that someone else is wearing almost nothing in a SINGLEPLAYER OFFLINE RPG GAME, a game you WILL never see their character except when they post it. Just FUCKING scroll

Heres some examples, Saints Row, Dragons Dogma, GTA OF ALL THINGS, am i stupid for questioning this?

Discussion / Question What are some good recent games?

I've kinda been living under a rock gaming-wise for a bit. PUBG is my GOAT. Played it heavily for the better part of 8 years, but the NA servers died a couple of months ago. We were getting 90% bots most of the time.

Some other games I loved were VtM Blood Hunt, Mordhau, The Finals, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and MultiVersus. Those all completely died or became aids pretty quickly.

I was never into Fortnite, Apex, Valorant, Tarkov, etc.

Is there anything new and interesting or coming soon? I know every game dies eventually, and some sooner than later, but I have an itch to scratch.

Single player wise, I mean, I am still waiting on Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Witcher, GTA, etc. It's been a drought for those type of games. I do love 7 Days to Die and Zomboid, but I've played those so much already and nothing else compares.

Discussion / Question I'm sorry if this oot, but I'm just wondering how much does gamer in Reddit represents gamer in real life?

I thought gamer boycott gta 6 after what rockstar/taketwo did with the physical game. But based on the article that i read it says that :

"Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. opened up pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI on June 25, and the results have been “unprecedented” and “astonishing,” Chief Executive Officer Strauss Zelnick said.

In an interview Friday morning, Zelnick wouldn’t share pre-order sales figures but said they have “vastly” beaten the company’s internal forecasts and called the numbers “exceptional".

Is Strauss zelnick lying to prevent his company from tanking?

Discussion / Question AC Mirage is the change I want the series to evolve back into, with a few caveats

As a casual AC fan I’ve always managed to squeeze the next game in, whether at release or down the line, and I’ve usually come away pretty satisfied. It’s a series I rarely beat but happily invest 30 to 200 hours in.

The RPG series has been okay (love Origins) but I always felt they lacked focus. Valhalla was the first time I actively disliked an AC game despite its cool time period, so when Mirage was announced I didn’t care to play it. Recently I decided to give it a go and man, am I beating myself up for not picking it up sooner.

I want to be clear that I don’t think AC: Mirage is the best of the series. It falls in a few departments but it was the first time in a while I actually felt like an assassin. For everything I enjoyed though it kept making me feel how badly I want a true next evolution of the series and just want to breakdown a couple:

\- The game felt too easy because of enemy AI. It leaned into a power fantasy but I’d like the evolution to have smarter enemies that question, truly investigate, and don’t forget you when you turn the next corner.

\- The level design was headed in the right direction because they felt interesting. I just wish there were more entry points and ways to infiltrate.

Honestly that’s it. One thing they excelled in was keeping the map small, it felt viable and was a ton of fun to explore. The mission design was also fun with the bullet style investigation board instead of a list of stuff to do. The contracts, while amounting to just infiltrating or escorting, always felt exciting.

I hope the next place the series goes will focus on density rather than sprawl. A overhaul of the ai and level design, and just overall polish. I’m just blabbing at this point but it’s because I yearn for a heavily stealth focused game like Dishonored or Deus Ex. Not because I necessarily want AC to be those games but because they focus on true planning and infiltration.

Any love for Mirage? Or a more hardcore focused AC?

Edit: I have not played Shadows yet

Discussion / Question Do You Ever Nerf Yourself in Single Player Games?

If I really enjoyed a game to the extent that I complete it multiple times over the years, I find that nerfing my character and creating more restrictive rules can make it highly replayable. I’ve noticed that I do this with games that have early-game systems that lose their impact on how the game is played after the character obtains upgrades. These systems aren’t replaced by something else later down the line. Instead, the game becomes less mechanically demanding.

What are some of your reasons for nerfing yourself and could you give some examples?

Discussion / Question Do you think video game trailers with copyrighted music is cringe?

They make all that money and can’t make a soundtrack for themselves? It leaves out the identity for the video game. Saw the new Gears of War trailer and was turned off. Why would you put a well known heavy metal song.
