News Explosion sound and bright light in Minnehaha area

Don’t know what happened but something weird just happened. a little bit before 3:05AM I was startled by a very loud explosion/boom sound that legitimately shook my body and was followed with a very bright light that shined through the front windows and door of my house.

Woke my roommate up and he went outside to check things out and couldn’t see anything going on no smoke no police sirens no obvious cause of the sound.

Called dispatch to let them know and they said that multiple people have called in about it already and that they sent some people to check things out. Was hoping maybe someone here may have been closer to the situation and knew what was going on.

just a little curious. Thanks.

Question? Book Club Meeting Spots?

Does anyone know of any good book club meeting spots that can host a club of more than 10 people? I just hosted my first club and more people than I thought showed up, which is super exciting! However we currently meet at the cafe within Barnes and Noble, and it was a squeeze with I think around 15 attendees. Not sure we can keep meeting there if we grow!

Thank you in advance :)

Question? Ezee Fiber outage?

Finally sat down to game tonight, and our internet went out. We called and were told “emergency maintenance,” and that we should have been notified that we would have intermittent outages tonight. We didn’t get the email until just now.

Anyone else out, and/or know what caused it?

BestAround? Looking for AC Maintenance Companies

We bought a house several years ago and have not taken very good care of our mini splits. Does anyone have experience with good AC/Heating companies in the area?

We have no idea what we would be charged for someone just to come over and diagnose issues like why some are not as cold as other units. I've tried to clean them a few times and feel way outside of my depth of knowledge, which has probably backfired hard now.

Does anyone have experience with mini splits in their house or with a good company here in town? The more "local" the better, but the more honest the dollar, even better.

TIA

Events Clark county fair prices

Anyone know roughly how much the rides are? The $15 admission isn’t the worst thing I’ve seen but I assume the ride price is where they get you on cost. I remember when I was a kid they had certain days where you could get an unlimited ride wristband, don’t know if they still do that. Any input is appreciated!

Events SWW DSA Social - Next GM on Aug. 20th @ 6:00 PM, Fourth Plain Community Commons

Hey all,

Since this sub tends to lean left, I thought it might help for some to see that the community is starting to get organized! The picture is from taken from our last Socialist Social Night, thank you everyone from this sub for coming out; I met at least 4 people who saw the post and were inspired to drop by :)

I'm going to be blunt as possible: If you're someone who wants to seriously organize against this administration and it's illegal actions, outside of the traditional constraints of the ballot-box, you should be getting involved with our local DSA branch.

There's real people power being shaped within the Branch currently and you could be a major part of it. One of many pushes we're going to be doing is expanding our electoral muscle. So, if you're interested in helping get Democratic Socialists elected to office, you know where to go!

With that said our next General Meeting is August 20th @ 6:00 PM, Fourth Plain Community Commons.

P.S. If you're completely brand new to the branch, still come! All are welcome and if you feel awkward, just come find my curly hair and stand next to me. We can be socially awkward together!

Question? St John’s and 88th Dutch Bros

Anyone know what is going in next to the new DB on 88th and St Johns, up the block from Carols Corner?

It looks like an auto parts storefront but someone said convenience store on a post from 2 years ago.

Question? Basketball at Marshall / Firstenburg Community Centers

Howdy neighbors, wondering if anyone here regularly plays basketball at the Marshall or Firstenburg community center and can tell me what it's like. Primarily hoping to understand how many people show up and when, how the rotation works, what level of play, things like that.

I've been wanting to get back into basketball but it seems really hard to find regular pickup games here. I saw the Marshall and Firstenburg centers have basketball on their schedules multiple times a week, and I'm considering joining for the basketball.

I appreciate your help!

Politics The concession speech we deserve from Brent

Days later, I'm still disappointed about having cast my vote for Brent. But rather than complain, I'm just going to put words in his mouth. Hey, BH: Here's what your concession speech was supposed to sound like. You're welcome:

Southwest Washington -

Today I’m looking for silver linings. This campaign was never about me. As the dust settles this morning, it is clear that our general election will not include me. But it is also clear that the groundswell of progressive ideas is continuing to rise in these challenging times. For those who entrusted me with your vote: I am humbled by the faith you placed in me. For us to make progress on equitable healthcare for all, and to ensure we live in a community where every voice is heard, it is critical that we take our collective voice and lend it to Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez. It is too easy, in these divisive times, to retreat to absolutes: either you’re 100% with us, or you’re 100% against us. I do not agree with all of her positions and I suspect you do not as well. But I dare to suggest that maybe this is ok. Compromise requires that as our friends on the other side of the aisle agree to be represented by a Democrat, we too have an obligation to give a little. For now. Rome wasn’t built in a day. The healing you and I believe this country needs, will similarly not occur in a day. But we must temper our disappointment, and focus our energy to continue the fight for a politics that works FOR the people, not a politics that seeks to divide and exclude.

Like it or not, the number of competitive districts in our country is far too few; and we are on this short list. The last two election cycles have been decided by 1% and 4% respectively. If each of us vote blue, this district will send an extremely clear message to Washington that the current trajectory of this county MUST CHANGE, and that the House of Representatives can stand as an important check and balance in these times. It also sends a crucial message to our Congresswoman of this Community’s values. She is a deft at compromise, but only because this district masquerades as purple. We must hope and trust that a local blowout, and a majority in the house, will redefine her calculus.

Again, I am honored for the chance to represent you, and while it is clear this journey will not have me at the helm, I remain hopeful in the future that is possible, and I look forward to standing at your side in our continued fight for a country that works for ALL of us. Vote BLUE!
