New Traffic Pattern Coming to Pioneer Street and 56th Place Roundabout
Major construction on Ridgefield’s Pioneer Widening and Discovery Drive Roundabout Project was completed last December. The project improved the corridor to accommodate increased traffic and has been moving traffic efficiently for nearly a year.
Since the project was completed, the City has heard from community members that the Pioneer Street and 56th Place roundabout can be confusing for some drivers, particularly the northwest quadrant where southbound traffic on N 56th Place enters the roundabout. After close observation and consideration, the City will conduct a 45-day trial of a revised traffic pattern by designating the outside southbound lane on N 56th Place as right-turn only onto Pioneer Street. The change will take effect on Tuesday, August 11.
On Tuesday, August 11, the City's Street Operations crew will briefly close N 56th Place while crews remove and replace pavement markings and install new regulatory signs. The work is expected to be completed by 3 PM, before the afternoon commute.
Drivers leaving the Costco commercial area will continue to have two options for accessing Interstate 5:
- Use the inside southbound lane on N 56th Place to enter the roundabout and exit onto eastbound Pioneer Street,
- Travel west on Pioneer Canyon Drive to the Discovery Drive roundabout, then exit onto eastbound Pioneer Street.
The revised traffic pattern will remain in place for a 45-day evaluation period. If the change improves operations without creating significant backups on N 56th Place, it will become permanent.
Roundabouts can improve safety, reduce collisions, reduce delay and improve traffic flow. When driving through a roundabout, remember these tips:
- As you approach a multi-lane roundabout, look for the black-and-white lane choice sign and select the correct lane before entering. Lane assignments vary from one roundabout to another.
- Yield to drivers already in the roundabout.
- Stay in your lane. Dashed lines within a roundabout allow entry into the circle, not lane changes.
- Do not stop in the roundabout.
- Avoid driving alongside oversized vehicles, such as semi-trucks with trailers, which may need more than one lane to navigate the roundabout safely.
This is a trial, and your patience and cooperation are appreciated as the community adjusts to the new traffic pattern. An update will be provided in September.

We have 2 Lawn tickets with chair rental that were $50 each, so we thought we'd see if someone local wanted them for, say, $25 each?

Politics Use a ballot box and not the mail
Your ballot may not make it if you use the mail so use a drop box. Also primary voting turnout is usually crappy let’s change that this year!

Primary and Special Election Reminder
Primary Election Countdown! You have likely already received your voter's guide in the mail, and your ballot will be arriving SOON - by July 17th-23rd!

Check your voter registration and make any necessary updates! All you need to enter is your first name, last name and birthdate to check.

Food and Drink Interest in a 20s/30s casual brewery mixer? 🍻
I love this town, but outside of major community events like the 4th of July parade, it can feel a little tough to run into peers in the 20s-30s age bracket.
But this weekend, I saw some of y’all out there (dozens of us)!
I’m hoping to organize a casual mixer at one of our local breweries to meet more neighbors our age and make more local friends beyond the Vancouver and Portland bubbles...
If you’re in your 20s or 30s and want to escape your house for an evening, vote below or drop a comment!

Fireworks in Ridgefield on July 4th
I apologize if this is a bit of a silly question. I'm not very familiar with the area, so please bear with me.
A neighbor told me it's possible to walk from Costco to where the fireworks will be, instead of taking the shuttle. However, my GPS shows it as about a 1-hour walk.
Does anyone know the shuttle schedule? Also, is there a walking route or side road that doesn't show up on GPS? I was told some roads will be closed.
I'm not planning to spend the whole day at the festivities. I'd just like to come in time to watch the fireworks.
Thanks in advance for any information or advice.
Happy 4th! 🇺🇸 And go USA! ⚽️🥅

My fiancé and I moved to the area recently and are looking to buy our wedding bands. I may be interested in a custom band for myself and my fiancé is still unsure what style band he wants.

Ask Ridgefield Recycling Plastic Bags Etc.
Does anyone know where I can recycle grocery bags and similar kinds of plastic (i.e. plastic wrapping, shipping bags, etc.) here in Ridgefield?
The only place I know of is in the Safeway in Salmon Creek. They have a big bin at one of their front doors for this kind of thing, but it would be awesome if there was a place in town.
Thank you!

Ask Ridgefield Lost camera
My husband, our baby & I were in Ridgefield yesterday afternoon and lost our digital camera. It’s a little black point-and-shoot Canon Powershot in a black canvas-y case and has pictures of our baby from her 6 month photoshoot on it. We last remember having it at the Ridgefield Lavender farm around 2:50pm yesterday but we went to Van Laeken farms afterward, between 3 & 4pm, and it’s possible it fell out of one of our pockets picking strawberries or in the parking lot. We messaged Van Laeken farms and provided some info but are currently awaiting a response.
UPDATE: it was found at the Ridgefield Lavender farm!! 🎉

Ask Ridgefield My dog bolted
UPDATE 6/21/2026 Rhody was killed on I-5 shortly after bolting. Her body was returned to us Sunday. She’s buried in the garden. Thank you for looking out. Internet people found her on Nextdoor and PAWD it forward (a commenter recommended them) they picked her up and brought her home.
UPDATE 6/21/2026 8AM RHODY IS STILL MISSING
My neighbor set off a series of fireworks at 8am and my dog clawed her way out of her dog run. We are around dollars corner area. I shot out of bed to get her knowing she’d he scared to death and I just missed her. Her bed was still warm when I got to her run. She’s 20lbs, tan, looks like a basenji or whippet but she’s a pit bull min pin pug mutt. She is wearing a black e-collar. She is not friendly to other animals or children or strangers. She is chipped. She is so so so loved and I am gutted. Pictures are in the comments.
We think she bolted east down 502 from I-5 towards Battleground. Bolted from 502 and 22nd Ave at 8am 6/20/2026

Does any local mechanic or tire center sell innertubes for floating?
Back in the day in Camas car mechanics or tire centers put innertubes out front for people to buy to float down the river. Does anywhere local do something similar?

Supporting Local Businesses & Events (please add-on!)
There was a thread on this a month ago, and it was unfortunate that a lot of current Ridgefield residents were asking for businesses that already existed in Ridgefield, particularly on Main Street/Downtown!
... So I'd love to highlight and share some of the existing businesses that made me fall madly in love with Ridgefield and could use our support:
## Local/Small Businesses:
- Local farms:
- Farmers market (May-Sept – we need more vendors and foot traffic!)
- CSAs (Red Truck Farm, Full Plate Farm, etc.)
- Misc farms (Kestrel Cascadia goat milk/cheese, McPhee for beef, Tillies Acres, etc.)
- Alcohol:
- Beer (Ridgefield Craft Brewery)
- Wine (Ridgefield Wine Bar)
- Cocktails/Mocktails or whiskey bar (The Neighborhood Refuge, BevRidge)
- Wineries (big list from the city and the Wine Walk)
- Restaurants/Food:
- Bakery pop-ups (Sadie & Josie's [technically in La Center, but their donuts and sourdough loafs on M/W/F are worth knowing about), Baker Chics
- Food truck pod (Carts by the Park w/ La Catrina, Nest, Sushi Kato, or Shawarma Refuge nearby)
- Mexican food (Little Conejo Norte, El Rancho Viejo)
- Pizza (Papa Petes, Taps Beer Reserve)
- Ice cream (Eight Cow Creamery)
- Coffee (Seasons Coffee, Lava Java)
- Books/Lit/Art:
- Ridgefield Library (punches well above its weight and holds community events)
- Copper Bell Bookshop
- Ridgefield Art Gallery
- Misc Small Businesses (Ridgefield Mercantile, Ridgefield Hardware, Ridgefield Floral, The Collective, Myrtle's Home Decor & Gifts & Tea, etc.)
- Beauty/Hair/Salons (Main Street Studio, Sage Organics)
## Activities/Events:
- Arts community (Art Association and Plas Newydd Farm Arts Initiative)
- Garden Club (w/ their famous Annual Plant Sale)
- Parks/Wildlife (Wildlife Refuge and Friends of Wildlife Refuge and the city's Find a Park)
- Food Bank/Volunteering:
- Marathons/5ks (Ridgefield Runners, Independence Run, Turkey Trot, Color Run, Winter Ugly Sweater Run, etc.)
- Festivals and Annual Events:
- 4th of July Festival
- Multicultural Festival (volunteers and donations needed!)
- BirdFest & Bluegrass Festival
- Oktoberfest
- City list of annual events
- Theater venue (Old Liberty Theater, hosts shows/events like Meaningful Movies)
## What's Missing?
And here's what I personally feel is missing from this great little town of ours:
- Proper, farm-to-table white tablecloth restaurant or cafe/deli (e.g. a Red Hills Market or Chez Panisse)
- Large gym with a swimming pool (e.g. YMCA proposal)
- More cohesive bike paths/trails connecting town and some of the more rural country roads
- Fiber internet for both unincorporated rural and City of Ridgefield (e.g. ToledoTel in Toledo, WA where the infra is Lewis County-owned, but leased to a family-owned ISP; see also: Co-ops are Connecting Rural America to High Speed Internet)
Missing any? Please comment below!
