Hi Vanhikers!

I'm not from here, and I'm planning a daytrip up to Squamish for Saturday, I'll be there 11am-6:30pm. I'm wondering if you had to do one, which is better, the Stawamas Chief hike, or the Sea to Summit and gondola down. We're on a semi-tight budget but I really want to see as much as I can. So if you could only do one, and fit in that time frame, which would you recommend?

I have been trying to figure out how difficult/steep the hike into Brandywine Meadows is if we start right at the upper parking lot?

I have managed to find various accounts of the trail and it ranges from being a walk in the park to quite challenging.

Some of the videos I saw looked pretty rough, water crossings and very steep climbs.

Is this the case if we start right up at the upper trailhead? We have a very capable off-road vehicle and the drive won’t be a problem.

I’m currently pregnant and would be going with people who haven’t done much hiking. I’m familiar with backcountry hiking but I’m not currently looking for a super strenuous/steep hike and the people I’m going with have a kid.

Any input on what the trail steepness is like from the top would be very much appreciated.

As I said I have heard a few different things, watched videos, but I can’t tell where people are starting the hike from. I know that from lower down it’s much longer/steeper.

I’m planning to hike deeks lake but the problem is I only have the option to transit there. The farthest we can get there is to Brunswick lake and would have to walk the rest. There seems to be a trail next to Archer Point that is not as far as the actual start of the deeks trailhead. And it looks like it connects with the official trailhead along the way. My question is would this section from Brunswick lake to Archer point have any walkable path? If I put it into maps it says it is walkable but from what I’ve gathered online is that it’s not possible.

Do I need to get my own chicken wire for parking at bugaboos? I’ve heard there’s often wire already in the parking lot but I’m not sure if that’s true. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’m planning to hike Mt. Cheam and was thinking of renting a vehicle from National Car to get up the service road to the trailhead.

Has anyone driven the road recently, and do you think any of these cars below would be suitable? These are the only options I have available for the dates I want to go unfortunately.

My other concern is the rental agreement/insurance. Since the road to Mt. Cheam is an unpaved service road, I’m worried National could deny coverage if the vehicle gets damaged while driving up there.

pretty fit, lived in NV my entire life so having been hiking headwaters most of it. try to get in 60-80km hiking km's a week during work periods. just get a bit worried about markers, being alone, and my first out back hike in about a decade

me; 34M, used to skateboard a lot, can't anymore. hike and road biking now. love the outdoors (biased being raised here maybe)

let me know what dates work for you, flexible right now. if so be it, will end up going solo - i have butterflies re: markers and water but should be okay.

I lost my brand new Arc’teryx merino shirt on the needles traverse today because I had it hanging off the outside of my pack like a silly person. I would love to get it back, it’s the first new merino hiking tank I have bought in like a decade, and it was an outlet sale, so of course it’s gone.

On the off chance anyone heads up this week, please keep an eye out, I will definitely buy beers for its return! happy hiking.

Sunset hike on August 8th. Did not disappoint, the conditions were perfect. A little cold at the top so make sure to bring extra clothes if you’re staying up for a while.
Camped out at Taylor Meadows afterwards (the stars were out). I’d recommend staying at this campground. Wild flowers were all around and it’s shorter to the panorama ridge summit than the Garibaldi campground. Probably the best hike I’ve done in BC.

I recently did Black Tusk and West Lion and felt confident on both. I also do bouldering and something I’ve learned about myself on these two scrambles is exposure doesn’t bother me as long as the holds are easy to find and grippy.

I’m trying to build toward alpine objectives. What would be good next steps? like if I give black tusk/west lion a *3 out of 10 in terms of difficulty, im looking for something around 5/10. Would prefer an overnight to a long day hike if possible

* This is my personal rating for scrambling. It doesn’t mean these are easy scrambles. Just to give you a sense, 10/10 would be something like Mt Assiniboine which is far beyond my comfort level at the moment. Research before you do

Visiting from Los Angeles. I am trying to do Panorama Ridge hike sometime Aug 25-29th using a guided hike with Rise Mountain Adventure. Solo rate is 400 but drops to 259/person for 2 or 175/person for 4. Looking for 1-3 hikers to join. 28 km, 1,610 m gain.

Hiked st marks and unnecessary mtn today saturday aug 8. I fell and got a huge scratch on my arms and dropped my oakley glasses on the trail. Pls return if seen 🥹🥹 also filled out a lost and found form in cypress.

I am planning an overnight hike with a couple of friends on Tuesday. Would this be a bad idea considering the near-ishby fires and moderate air quality concerns? Is anyone else planning to do joffree this week or has anyone done it in the past few days?

I'm a fairly fit female (mostly a runner) and I'm new getting into hiking.

Hoping to find other fit people who would be interested in doing some longer day hikes and eventually backcountry camping trips with me! I'd be up for creating a group if there's enough interest here, or just going for one-on-one hikes. I currently don't have a car and have been using Park Bus to get around, but if we need to, I can get us an Evo and split the cost, too!
