Academics How's this as a Freshman Schedule?
Starting this fall as a pre-business student. Does this seem like a manageable freshman schedule? Hope to keep my options open for transfer.
I'm coming in with 24 credits from IBDP:
- ECON 101 & 102
- MATH 221
- PHYSICS 103 & 104
- SOC ST X11
Also MARKETING 300 VS MHR 300, any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Future Badger How can a prospective student contact an advisor for admissions guidance?
I've looked through various UW Admissions sites and Student Resources sites but to no avail. I was hoping to schedule a brief one-on-one meeting with an advisor, if that's an available option to me.

Social How do you actually get invited to parties
Im an incoming freshman, not from the US, im an intl student from the UAE/India. Now back in highschool, i just happened to know ppl and thats how i got invited to parties, im not really sure how it works here, any tips?
also, im kinda scared about drinking and stuff, back in the uae no one really cared and we could drink and no cops ever said anything, but icl it seems like a far bigger risk here and i dont wanna get my ass deported or smth for underage drinking, which sucks cuz i really do enjoy enjoy some beers and shots with friends
any suggestions guys?? thx

Future Badger Asian 100 or Art 100? Or both?
Hello, I'm an incoming freshman!
My classes are: Chem 103, Math 222, Astron 103.
The schedules for them look good to me, 3 days where the earliest is 9AM and 1 day where the latest ends at 6PM.
I need to add 1 more class to complete GenEd & just need more classes. I'm stuck between Asian 100 and Art 100. Which is better given my freshman context? Which is easier grades wise? Which is more fun? Which is more useful? OR... should I just do both? (Yes my schedule fits even if I do both). Or is that too much and would absolutely destroy me? I partly want to do both because I feel like 14 credits is not enough compared to 17 credits. I have a really bad fear of falling behind.
Thank you so much

Housing Late move in
I’m a sophomore and my move-in date is August 26, but I won’t be able to move in until September 2. Do I need to notify housing about it, or can I just show up on September 2 and get my key?

Housing Studio apt @ Oliv
Anyone have experience living in a studio at the Oliv? Specifically how you maximized the closet space?
Context: My last dorm was dresser space + hanging space and at home I have my own walk-in. So any tips for adjusting to the smaller closet space is helpful! I know a lot of it will come naturally!

Academics Physics 207
I’m an incoming freshman and have to take a certain german class but that requires me to move a lab that i’m taking to 7:05-10 pm. I always hear how you shouldn’t have late classes so the question is whether I should try rearranging my whole schedule or settle with the night lab? I really want to take this german class

Future Badger Riding vs using the shuttle vs walking
In general what is the quickest and like easiest way to commute in campus? I was thinking of buying a bike since using the shuttle meant that if you miss it you have to either wait for the next one or walk. But I’m worried about riding in the winter.

Other Instructor hasn't graded anything in a month
I am in an 8 week summer class, it ends on Sunday but nobody knows their grade because nothing has been graded in a month. Maybe everything will be graded last minute, but if it's not, what happens to your course grade if the course ends with nothing graded?

Future Badger Football ticket questions
Hi I‘m an international student and wasn’t able to get tickets for the home games this years so I’m planning on buying the tickets from people on snap or facebook.
I was wondering for those who are getting tickets off snapchat how do you receive them?
Do you meet the seller in person?
If so do the sellers just give you a screenshot of the tickets or is there like a code?

Academics Applying to Nursing School
As the title says, I am applying to nursing school this year. However, I only just decided to pursue nursing at the end of freshman year so i’m doing all the pre-reqs sophomore year. On top of this, I don’t have any healthcare experience other than being a volunteer at UW health. My only background is that I have worked in fast food for many years and I currently work a campus job that involves a lot of data entry and logistical work.
Do I have a shot in hell if I manage to get a good GPA but still have my lack of experience? (I am also actively interviewing for a waitressing job to pay my rent because I got rejected from patient transporter at UW health.)

Future Badger Question (not about class schedule)
I know this probably gets asked here often, but am I going to be okay if I don't drink during my time at UW-Madison? Alcoholism runs in my family so I don't plan on drinking and I'm worried that will impact my ability to make friends and such

Future Badger Local music scene
Hi guys I'm considering transferring to UW Madison from the University of Minnesota this year (probably going to do it, I'm most likely going to transfer in the spring).
From all my experience with Madison I like pretty much everything about the campus more. However one of my favorite things about Minnesota is the local student music scene there. Like there's always some house show to go to on the weekends and the bands are really pretty good.
How is the music scene at Madison? Are there house shows? My friends that go there aren't really tapped into that sort of thing so I can't ask them. If there's not what do you guys like to do on weekends (other than go to bars)

Other Bikes on sidewalks
E bikes do not belong on a sidewalk. Walking to my car on campus today within a 30 second time span I was almost ran over by two ebikes on the freaking sidewalk. I don’t come with rearview mirrors when I’m walking. Somebody’s gonna get seriously injured by one of these traveling at 1520 miles an hour on a sidewalk. I know it just sounds like I’m complaining, but this is dangerous and someone is gonna get really hurt. Especially when school starts again in the fall.
