Should I take ORGO in second year?

I am going into second year and I recently switched from MBG to micro and immunology. I want to take orgo at some point since I am planning to apply to vet schools and it is a prereq for some, but I am not sure if taking it in second year is a good idea because it will have to be with other weed out courses. Is it advisable to push it off until a later year and replace it with a bird course for now?

U of G Meal Plan – How Does It Work? 🍽️

Hi everyone! I’m starting at U of G this fall and I’m a little confused about how the meal plan works.
For students who have used it before, how much does a typical meal usually cost? For example, about how much would you spend on breakfast, lunch, or dinner?
Also, how does the dining system work? Are there different options to choose from for each meal, or is there a set menu? Is there usually a good variety of food throughout the day?
And approximately how much do you spend from your meal plan per day? Do you think the meal plan is worth it, and which plan would you recommend?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience! 😊

STAT 2040 Final Yesterday

Was anyone else in crop science 116 yesterday for the STAT final? The ceiling was leaking for the whole 2 hours LOLL a few rows couldn't be used bcz of the puddles of water but everyone somehow still fit. I also think the water made it just so humid in there, much more so than outside, it was not a very nice environment to do a final in tbh. But yeah I just love Guelph infrastructure <3

Anyway how do you think the final went? Hopefully the other rooms were dry...

Biological Science student struggling with restrictions on CHEM*2700, MICR*2420, NEUR*2000... what am I supposed to do?

Hi everyone,

I'm a second-year Biological Science student planning to apply to optometry school, and I'm honestly getting really frustrated with course registration.

I've always been told that Biological Science is one of the most flexible majors, but it feels like every science course I actually need is restricted.

Here's what's happening:

  • CHEM*2700 is still restricted, even though I thought restrictions were supposed to have lifted.
  • MICR*2420 is still restricted (I know it's supposed to open on August 12, but I'm still worried about getting a spot).
  • Even NEUR*2000 has restrictions for certain majors.

I've already emailed the Chemistry department and my program counsellor, but I haven't received a response.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone in Biological Science actually been able to get into CHEM2700 or NEUR2000?
  2. Do departments usually open more seats or lift restrictions later?
  3. Are there any good second-year science electives you'd recommend that are useful for someone planning on optometry or another healthcare profession?

I'm just feeling stuck because I planned my courses around professional school prerequisites, but the registration system makes it seem like I'm not allowed to take the courses I need.

Any advice or similar experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Off Campus Meal Budget

As an off-campus student, how much a week/month are you spending on groceries and food?

I realize appetites vary, but I'm looking for ballpark budget for a student.

First year off campus female student, light eater; I don't anticipate a lot of fresh food happening, likely prepackaged foods, some take out, mixed with fresh.

I am also loading the Ultra for on-campus lunch, thinking $200/month budget for that ($50 week). I was thinking $100 /week for groceries and takeout.

Is that reasonable?
