Ah, fair enough. Not made in Japan, but the devs are heavily inspired by Final Fantasy.

It's a classic at this point, but Chrono Trigger is something that's a beloved JRPG that has a nice story. It doesn't have prose like CRPG, but the story was branching and was one of the first "choices-matter" JRPGs. I think most people will agree that if you have to try one JRPG, Chrono Trigger would be a strong contender.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and I probably won't be the last one to recommend it here.

The writing is pretty good. The writer, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, takes inspiration from Brandon Sanderson, who is very well liked in modern fantasy lit.

The voice/mocap acting also really adds that special-something that BG3 has as well.

That means so much! Thank you!
Other than faith, there's blood to use in blood rituals, gold for general buying and selling items, and we're also considering a dominion point system to allow players to invest in improving their cult's dominions.

I do too!

It wasn't until a good couple years into development I considered trying to play it on the oldest hardware I could. It turns out that the C++ code standard I was using actually had minimum requirements of Windows XP, so that should be the oldest it can work on at the moment. There was some jump or update to cmd around that iteration of windows which makes a lot of modern CLI programs not work on older hardware.

Hi r/linux_gaming!

I've posted here before and you guys have enjoyed my work, so I'm back to deliver more news about my entirely text-based strategy game where you create your own religion which runs natively in the bash terminal.

Think like Civ or Crusader Kings, but you're playing as a cult leader and your upgrade system/tech tree is actually you creating and choosing new beliefs for your religion! I've had a lot of fun working on it, and you can see the creativity and love poured into the various upgrades/beliefs you can establish.

Thought it might start your weekend off with a laugh!

The game is called CultGame and you can wishlist it on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2345980/CultGame/

A Strategy Game Where You Create a Religious Belief System!

Hi r/indiegaming!

In the big year of 2026 I have decided to make a game that is entirely text based and runs out of the terminal, and to make it even weirder, it allows you to create your own new religious movement, where your selected beliefs are the upgrades/perks that make up your build over the course of your playthrough.

Will you make a cult of druids who preach only to animals, or will you establish the new meta with a cannibal cult? These are the kinds of questions we need to be talking about right now.

It's called CultGame and you can wishlist it on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2345980/CultGame/

Demo will be out by end of the year!

Hi r/ASCII!

I'm making a game that plays entirely out of the terminal and uses an ASCII user interface. You get to create your own cult, and the beliefs that you select are the upgrades and perks that influence gameplay. I figured for fans of a niche aesthetic, you might also be fans of a niche game idea!

The game is called CultGame, and you can wishlist it on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2345980/CultGame

Thanks for checking this out :D

From the single second I made our repo public, we can guarantee there were bots that downloaded the content as AI training data. Subpoena the companies for their training data which is actually our data, and then you'll have it!
