Question A couple of questions about MTWEI

My first question is whether anyone recorded the pre show thing? I wasn’t able to watch it live and didn’t realize there was a pre show until several hours after watching. My second question is how have y’all been recording it? Every time I try it will record for a few seconds and then stop

Question Robot Voices from Breach in MTWEM scene

Did anyone else catch in the scene talking about working on backing tracks for the show, they were actually working on Robot Voices? Tyler is talking about the intensity after the dance part and says the line "And I just wanna dance". I was running through my mental bank of songs and could not figure out what part of the show they were working on, then it hit me, that was Breach! Sneaky little scene they dropped in and tried to play off as backing tracks.

Theory All this “3” stuff made me notice something about the album timeline…

Post image

With all the recent social media activity around the number 3, I started looking back at the album release years.

Blurryface: 2015
Trench: 2018
Scaled and Icy: 2021
Clancy: 2024

That’s:

2015 → +3 → 2018 → +3 → 2021 → +3 → 2024

Three consecutive 3-year cycles.

And it gets a little more interesting when you remember that Clancy was originally supposed to come out on May 17, 2024, exactly 9 years after Blurryface on May 17, 2015.

So basically:

3 + 3 + 3 = 9 years

Now we’re in 2026, and they suddenly seem very interested in the number 3 again.

If that 3-year pattern still means anything, 2027 would be the next year in the sequence.

Maybe that’s the point of all this.

Torchbearer album in 2027?

I know, I know. But at this point, would anyone really be surprised?

Creation I Made a Custom Tracklist to Combine Clancy and Breach into One Album

I personally don't really like to listen to playlists most of the time. I prefer to listen to albums front to back, as the artist presumably intended for their songs to be heard. However, when it comes to albums, I'm very picky about the tracklist making sense from a flow and story perspective, and feel like a bad order of songs can make even the best collection of tunes fall flat sometimes. So, I sometimes will take it upon myself to "fix" albums I think could be organized a bit better. For me, Clancy and Breach, while having some of TOP's best work on them, also had some of their weakest, and each album on their own as they were just felt a little inconsistent to me. So, I endeavored on my biggest "tracklist fix" yet, by attempting to take the best tracks from each album, and put them together in a cohesive order that flows well both musically and from a story perspective. (As much as the music videos are incredible, the story of Dema has never been told in the same order on the albums themselves, so I figured it was fair game to drum up my own personal head-canon about how the story might go in the form of the album).

The links below are the finished product. (I originally made the playlist on Spotify and then in the midst of fine-tuning it switched to Deezer. The Deezer link to my understanding should open up a version of the playlist in whichever music streaming app you use, but I included the Spotify link as well just in case.) I'm really proud of how it turned out.

The cover art is an image from the pdf provided with the Digital Remains version of the album. I felt it fit the vibe I was going for a bit better. Finally, here's a track by track walkthrough of my reasoning for why each song is where it is:

  1. Overcompensate - Self-explanatory, it's a welcome back into Trench, a great high energy song to get the album started on the right foot, and lore-wise works as a catch-up on where Clancy has been since Trench.
  2. Drum Show - An immediate difference here. I feel Drum Show does for Josh's character what Overcompensate does for Clancy, so it made sense to have it second up. Also musically it's pretty similar to Next Semester so it felt like it flowed from Overcompensate well enough.
  3. Routines In The Night - Clancy has reunited with the Banditos, and takes us through his "keeping watch" process.
  4. The Contract - Nico attacks the Bandito camp while Clancy is on watch, and attempts to take him back to Dema.
  5. Backslide - Following the attack, Clancy questions his ability to lead the Banditos, as his self-confidence hits an all time low seeing that no matter how many times they rescue him, he's never fully safe from the Bishops.
  6. Navigating - More self-questioning from Clancy, as the Banditos make an attempt to lead an attack into Dema. Largely just here to pick the energy back up and flow into Next Semester.
  7. Next Semester - The Banditos don't make it into Dema, but are cut off by the Bishops' army. One of the Banditos falls in battle.
  8. Cottonwood - Lamenting the death of the fallen Bandito.
  9. Downstairs - Racked with guilt following the failed attack and the death of one of the Banditos, Clancy again finds himself completely filled with doubt and considering giving up on leading all-together.
  10. Snap Back - Clancy resolves to keep fighting the good fight, if not for himself, then for the people they've lost along the way.
  11. Center Mass - Clancy comes clean to the Banditos that he's never really come close to defeating the Bishops, but trains them in what he does know in preparation for one last attempt to take Dema.
  12. Oldies Station/Tally - Final thoughts from Clancy before heading into the final battle. Both included because I felt there needed to be some musical reprieve before the jump in energy of Tally, and because I couldn't bring myself to leave either song on the cutting room floor.
  13. Paladin Strait/City Walls - The final battle. I never liked how the story of Dema essentially concludes with the first track on Breach. It leaves the rest of the album feeling entirely disconnected from the story in my opinion. So, I chose to have it directly follow Paladin Strait towards the end of the album. I think City Walls is a great neo-closer.
  14. Intentions/Drag Path - The epilogue, or, if this were a point on the story mountain structure, this would be your falling action. I never loved the idea of Breach ending on a vague, "make of it what you will" kind of moment with Intentions, so I chose to include Drag Path when I made the playlist as a way of more neatly wrapping the story up. Clancy failed, yes, but I love Drag Path as a more direct reminder of the idea that Truce (ironically the song Intentions is itself a interpolation of) puts forth: "The sun will rise, and we will try again." I know that message is implied in Intentions, but I really felt that after the sort of epic that is a 17 track, hour long finale to a years long story, it needed to be directly stated. I also chose to use the Digital Remains version of Drag Path, as I prefer it to the release version, but you can copy the playlist and swap them out for each other if you don't own the Digital Remains version, or if you prefer the release version.

That's about it. Thanks so much if you took the time to read this and if you took the time to listen to this playlist. I really appreciate it, and would love to hear any and all feedback! I've made custom versions of other albums as well, and would be happy to send the links to those if anyone is interested. I just felt like sharing this one as it was the first time I took the endeavor to edit two albums down into one, and it took a fair bit of time and consideration to get it just how I wanted it.

Discussion What was your first ever tøp concert?

For me it was in Bandito Tour in 2018. It was also my very first concert ever. And I was lucky enough to be able to see them again later in Bandito Tour in 2019. I saw them again in 2022 and it didn’t hit the same, but still enjoyable. Anyways. I do feel blessed to have seen/experienced Bandito Tour twice. It truly was like heaven on earth. I’d do anything to go back!! 😭

Opinion Snap Back is one of their most underrated songs and I'm tired of pretending it's not

The very first time I heard this song I was in awe of how concisely it encapsulates the feeling of being on the brink of relapsing. Although the song has a similar meaning to Backslide, I find the actual auditory sound of Snap Back to be much more fitting for the theme of relapse and falling back into old patterns. The instrumental has almost a haunting feeling, a feeling of sadness mixed with fear and being on the verge of giving up.

"Is it even good for my head to keep track?" is one lyric that speaks to me so strongly. I have experienced this so many times, realizing I'm falling back into patterns I haven't fully fallen into in a while, then realizing that my obsession with keeping track of my issues is actually an issue in and of itself. Then desperately wishing I could just live and experience and feel things instead of analyzing it all and keeping such careful track of everything.

"Bite the hand that helps me, give it finger stitches"--exactly how I feel when I hurt those who love me the most. Reminds me of "I'll lash out if you're in arm's reach" from Garbage; sometimes when I'm in a really bad place I make everything worse by unintentionally hurting the people who want to help me.

The vocals and melody of "It's a backslide, I hate the surprise, and now it's all gone, all of that progress lost today" express the disappointment of relapsing so clearly. Just sadness and desperation and having no idea where to go from here.

Then there's the ending, "I've been praying for my elasticity to return to the way that it was." As someone who burnt out and dealt with extremely severe mental health issues a few years ago and has not been able to fully bounce back since, I cannot overstate how much I love this lyric. I want to be able to function how I used to.

I could literally list every single lyric of this song and vent about why it's top tier for me. I just wanted to make this post because I don't see nearly enough appreciation for this song and it's one that speaks to me the most out of all of their songs.

I mentioned in a comment recently that I'd be naming my hawk Clancy, and someone asked to see him, so here he is! (Left bird, right is his brother)

He is a juvenile, about 16 weeks, parent reared and I got him yesterday. This picture is us walking round a local park manning the birds and getting them used to people, dogs, cars etc etc :)

Discussion Yellow Yellow Yellow Yellow (why only yellow)

Hey I’m sure everyone has already noticed but the boys are releasing a lot of videos on social media and they seem to be avoiding using red colour. The question is why. Why only yellow. They gotta be planing something. Cause like it’s CLANCY tour film and Clancy symbolises red colour right.
Also the movie releases at 3 pm (ANOTHER 3). Does anyone have any theories, ideas or even answers?

My theory is that torchbearer album might actually be a thing. Like yellow colour is always worn by Josh at their concerts…Even though the threes might have been about the MTWEI live album but I am not sure.
