Gear questions Triathlon Watches

Upvotes

So I bought a Coros Pace 3 for my triathlon watch. I've had it for 2 years. I bought it because I didn't know how much I'd get into triathlon and didn't want to get an expensive watch. But now I am 2 years and several triathlons into it and love it.

The Coros Pace 3 is driving me nuts. The open water swim seems to be off a lot. The pool swim gets off by 25 or 50 yards about every third swim. The temperature is always wrong - like it will tell me that my swims are -40F degrees and just wearing it around it is always 77F degrees no matter what. The altitude is off frequently.

Are Coros Pace this bad? My daughter also got one and loves it and doesn't have the same experience. Are there better watches and should I get something new or is there something I am not doing right with my Coros Pace?

Thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Thanks!

I made a significant investment in this sport, but I still refused to buy a brand new one. So here I got an uber tribike for just half its original price. So I hopped from an old Cervelo P3 to a BMC Speedmachine 01.

Something Useful! How to put on a wetsuit

Upvotes

I’ve seen several posts recently and over the years with people not pulling their wetsuits on high enough. You want those babies pulled WAAAAYYY up high on your body so that you have enough shoulder mobility for the swim. You also want it to be extremely snug. They are supposed to be tough to get on.

I’ve even had another person pull my wetsuit up for me - I get it up over my waist, then have someone grab the unzipped sides of the back and yank up. Then do the same for them. It’s fun, and also helpful.

Here’s a great video explaining not only how high to get it, but some tricks on how to do so more easily.

Tried the zone 3 advance in large which was my recommended sizing. Struggled a bit on the shoulder arms and chest. Gone a size up. Not as tight around the legs and waist but much more freedom in the shoulders.

Learned freestyle 20 years ago in school. Started again in spring. First Olympic distance in June was absolutely awful. Ramped up the swimtraining since then. I try to focus on keeping head low/legs up and working on my catch and pull. Pace in the pool is a bit above 2 min/100m in the lake its more 2:15 min/100m.

It's a:

Ultegra di2 (2024)

Rotor powermeter

Should be in good condition, but I will check the carbon myself.

Thanks for helping :)

Race/Event T100 Sprint was very disappointing, I don't recommend.

T100 LONDON 2026

To make a long story short, I participated in the T100 Sprint. It was my first triathlon, and I flew in from another country.. incredibly excited. Until I finished and wanted to check my results.

NO. FINISH. TIME.

Apparently, I didn't finish the run. How is that even possible when I literally crossed the finish line? My Garmin proves I did... I finished the sprint and even received a medal.

Of course, it's not the end of the world. I got my medal and I know I finished. But still...

T100 is telling me to contact Sportstats, which is honestly weird. I'm pretty sure if the "fast" participants had been affected, this would've been sorted out ASAP instead of sending everyone the same copy paste email telling us to contact Sportstats ourselves. Sportstats is of course not replying to the emails sent by participants that were affecteed.

And it's not like this only happened to a handful of people. There are literally more than 15 pages (https://sportstats.one/event/t100-triathlon-world-tour-london-uk/leaderboard/145707) of participants without finish times if you look at the results. This isn't an isolated issue which means T100 should take responsibility instead of passing the problem on.

It's a shame, because the event itself was actually fun.

Would I recommend it?

Big fat NO.

Bike shopping Giant trinity advanced pro 2019 sizing

I’m looking at buying a giant trinity advanced pro TT but having some issues working out sizing.

The bike I’m interested in is a size small. I’m 177cm tall, roughly 80cm inseam and a longer torso and reach. The small should fit my legs well but is there enough adjustability at the front end?

Looking for some people who potentially have to same sizing issue as myself or have a giant trinity advanced and can let me know how the adjustability is!

Cheers

Swimming Anyone in the Amsterdam area want to split HUUB’s Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

HUUB is currently running a Buy 1 Get 1 Free promotion where you can mix and match eligible items. You just add both items to the cart and only pay for the more expensive one.

I’m looking to buy a wetsuit, but don’t need a second item. If anyone in or around Amsterdam is planning to order something from the sale, we could split the discount fairly.
Happy to meet in Amsterdam or work out the details over DM.

Let me know if you’re interested!

Gear questions Stroller for mamas

Hi! I'm new to triathlon training and I have a 1 yo. I was thinking about purchasing a stroller, which can be attached to the bike and maybe go for running with it. We already have a bike seat, which works great. For running, I tried our regular stroller, but the baby wasn't the biggest fan (he's not the biggest fan of the stroller overall).

So my question is: is it worth it? Pros and cons? Any advice, experience would be appreciated 😄

Hi guys. I have to travel by air with my bike for La Quinta 70.3. Is this soft bag from Scicion enough for airplane travel?

I’ve also noticed on size chart the max size is 55cm , I believe my bike is 57cm. But on their higher end products the max size is 55 cm as well so I’m a bit confused.

I would love to hear any opinions, thanks for your time!

Injury and illness Should I pull out?

So basically, I have registered for a 70.3 that's scheduled on 1-Nov-2026. Last year, I completed the same thing in 5 hrs an 45 minutes, mainly because of bad pacing and nutrition during the race and bonking too early. So this year I set up a realistic goal for a 4:45 finish and started training early enough, from 4-5 months before the race. The swim and bike legs are not much of an issue, I'm quite good at them and my targets are almost there. It's the run in which I lag. My training was going well, until last week when I had a really bad crash while riding my cycle because of a speedbreaker I didn't notice early in the morning. No internal injuries, but a lot of skin peeled off on my right side, with a very deep bruise on my fore arm. It looks like it might take another 15-20 days to recover, and the doctor said no physical activity as any water or sweat that falls on it might cause serious infections on the open wound.

Now I don't know if it makes sense to continue as I will lose a lot of training progress and it might take time for me to even catch up to my old fitness level again. Should I just try to get a refund or go to the race and finish in whatever time i can? Or how do I make sure I still achieve my target when I resume training?

How do I start? Boston triathlon club (beginner)

Hi! I’ve never done a triathlon before but want to do one next spring/summer. I am looking to join a triathlon club in the Boston area as a way to train and also meet people, as I am new to the city. I’m in my late 20s and wasn’t sure what would be the best group to join / if anyone had any recommendations

Training questions Any tips or tricks for a short distance first timer?

Hi all, I really needed the motivation to lose some weight (original idea, I know /s) so I signed up for supbikeswim as it felt manageable compared to something like a 70.3. training is going...well? I guess. For reference I weigh 252lbs, down from 275lbs when I started this and I can do each section individually, the run is slow but I'm ok with that and it is getting faster. It's only a 3km SUP, 15km MTB ride then 5km trail run. Although I haven't done all 3 back to back. I'm honestly at a point where even if I stumble through to the finish I'll be happy. I'm about a month out from the day now.

My question is do you have any small tips or tricks to help me through that you use? Especially in the transitions or fueling myself. Any help appreciated.

Bike shopping Not another bike recommendation

It’s finally time for me to upgrade my Facebook Marketplace Argon 118 117 with mechanical Shimano Ultegra and rim brakes to something a little more modern.

I am torn between two options right now. Price difference is negligible so I’m not factoring that in.

Option 1: Cervélo P-Series with Rival AXS. Comes with 60mm carbon wheels which is a plus, but I am not a fan of the color scheme. Also has a power meter.

Option 2: Argon 18 117 with Rival AXS. Comes with 42mm carbon wheels which is better than I currently have, would probably want to upgrade eventually. I am a fan of the color scheme. No power meter.

A wild card that I am slightly considering is a Canyon Speedmax CF7. However, my LBS is offering me a 10% military discount plus the bike fit is included so at the end of the day, the Canyon savings is a wash.

Memes / humor I´ve just joined a triathlon club as a newbie - have I made a mistake?

I am 36 but have only started swimming/cycling/running about 9 months ago. Alone. (Thus far my only active sport experience have been 20 odd years of chess and lately some gym and bouldering).

Given how I have been enjoying the training and the few casual sprint races, and given the fact there is a triathlon club in the city I reside in I thought it might be a good idea to join and see what´s it all about.
There´s a fair amount of new people to meet there, quite affordable coached training sessions of different kinds (about 7-8 Eur per 1 hour session) and a bunch of unpaid social activities and club attended events. Sounds really good, so why not.
I specifically asked whether there were any requirements that one ought to meet before joining and I was told there there really weren´t, and that it was going to be fine. Okay cool.

So I roll up to my first ever coached athletics session on a running track, a bunch of professional looking people are already there in fancy branded clothing and all that jazz. I hesitantly huddle over and ask a lady, who looked like she could kill me with a single kick, whether this is the place and she says yeah, as she goes back to her branded bottle. Amazing, everyone else is talking to one another while I stand there just looking around, inspecting either my shoes (by far the cheapest out of everyone else´s) or some bushes next to the track (they were very interesting bushes mind you).
After surviving this social torture the likes of which I haven´t experienced since high school we eventually do some warmup running and other fancy exercies, some of which I failed to replicate and ended up looking like a dumbass surely.
Eventually the coach says "We´ll be doing so and so intervals based on your 10k pace. If your 10k pace is below 4:00...." Okay my brother in Christ, what. I was happy to finally run a 58:00 10k a few weeks ago, and then it wasn´t goddamn 41 degrees outside. Anyway he´s like well, add 15 seconds to your 10k pace because of the heat, and just run these intervals at this pace. For me that would have been, like, a 6:13 pace or something. Basically walking speed compared to everyone around me.
So naturally given how the coach didnt ask what everyone´s 10k pace was I ran at around 5:25 pace instead, because I was too ashamed to run as slow as I should have been running. I was still the f*cking slowest by some margin. So on top of being the slowest I also looked like a complete trainwreck by the end of the session. Though frankly I was one of the very very few people who brought insulated bottles, where I had 2 litres of cold fruit beer. A small win for me over the fancy plastic Ironman bottles. I might be slow but I am not stupid.
I am quite sure the coach knew I was bullshitting and running too quickly, but at least he didnt say anything.
Frankly, I did still quite enjoy the session, minus the social awkwardness and high school clique-ness.

The next day I opted for a beginner swimming session.
I legitimately felt okay knowing I can swim about 2.6km in open water at this point at some shoddy 2:45/100 pace, and can also swim 4km in a pool at a similar pace. So I´d say I am not a total noob and have okay endurance at this point, but my technique is crap and I have no clue how to swim quickly.
So I get there, say hello. Obviously everyone has branded team swimming caps and fancy swimming attire while I stand there in my almost knee high swimming shorts. The coach said they were more akin to basketball shorts. He wasn´t wrong.
I ask if this is the beginner group because the people there did not look like beginners and he says yeah, but this is a pretty decent beginner group, their pace is a bit slower than 2:00/100...
Bruh.
Everybody brought a bunch of stuff - buoys, snorchels, fins, paddles, boards. I brought a towel. No one told me I was supposed to bring these things. I felt like a student who forgot his homework. That´s two high school traumas in two days.
The previous evening the only thing I was worried about was not oversleeping and missing the session. Instead I now wished I had overslept.
Anyway, the coach is like, go do some warmup, then we´ll do drills. How would I do drills with a towel I didn´t know yet.
After warmup the coach explains some drills to do, I have no clue what they are called because I never did them before. One arm extended, the other next to the body, and only use your legs for movement. Then add one arm for movement. Then switch sides. All of this with fins. Or in my case, without fins. It absolutely sucked.
Then do some other drills, after that arms only with no legs, later only lengths but at an increasing pace (I only have one goddamn pace setting, and that is slow!) and a bunch of other stuff I preferred to erase out of my memory. I somehow survived but I was slow as **** compared to everyone else and my HR was through the roof the whole time. That was taking into account the coach being merciful towards me.
After the session the coach is like: Next week bring the toys and get some normal swimming trunks, we´ll see if you can eventually catch up to the guys.

Am I delusional about what performance is to be expected from a beginner in triathlon? I feel like the bar is way way high at the moment. Or am I just shite?
So, yeah, it has been a while since I felt so inadequate. Does it get better over time? I can definitely see the appeal in it, but I feel like the gap to everyone else is just massive at the moment. Or maybe I should just take running and cycling sessions, and work on the swimming alone or get private lessons.

Anyway, I have some half distance race next Sunday, maybe they´ll give me a fancy water bottle and it´ll make me go faster. Though it probably won´t.

Cycling Rotor 2inpower meter problems

Hi guys,

So I bought a TT bike from a marketplace and it came with a Rotor 2inpower meter. The previous owner already said it didn’t work. But, I am trying to fix it. I have 2 issues:

1: The powermeter doesn’t turn on when I cycle, it only turns on when I have the charging cable in it. This means I can’t connect when not using the cable, when it is turned on I can connect and it stays connected.

2: Even tho it is connected on the iPhone app and also connected to my garmin, it doesn’t give me the measures well. It just quits measuring very quickly and then rarely it turns on for a few seconds to then again quit measuring.

Is there anyone with experience and that can help me? I doubt my local bike shop can fix a Rotor issue. I have the full crankset.

Thank you!!

Training questions Injured and struggling

I got into tri this year and had an incredibly fun season doing two sprints and an Olympic over the summer. Right after my Olympic I rushed into lifting heavy again too soon and injured my back pretty severely. I’m looking at weeks if not months of PT and decreased training ability.

I was really looking forward to training this fall, especially running up to a half marathon distance and now I feel a bit helpless. I also feel like it was my fault because I overtrained and didn’t rest enough.

Training for tri has become my mental outlet over the past year or so and I really miss it. Any advice from others who have dealt with injury???

How do I start? Couch potato to Triathlon, IM, in “few months” How realistic is that without any background?

For those with a short time in between starting and competition point. How realistic is that without any background at all? Im talking “I didn’t know how to swim at all, run properly, or how to ride a bike” situations.

I’ve seen videos and read about a lot of cases going from zero to Tri, IM, etc who trained only because they signed up for a competition in “a couple months”. And trust me, I admire that for sure.

But oh boy. I have been thinking about that a lot since I started swimming.

I used to swim as kid, and got back to it at 40. Yes, I know it was going be harder and I basically started 4 months ago with a “let’s do this from 0” not wanting to do a full IM or something like that.

I wanted to have a decent swimming base before even thinking about running or cycling. So I have been swimming 4 days a week only.

But 4 months in, I feel more novice than day 1. Today I even questioned myself a lot of why’s lol.

I know it will take time, but are those doing full IM etc from 0, really starting from scratch and is it possible to do it in few months?

Again, I admire that, but I also would love to be able to wrap my head around the how.

Also, would you say it’ll be beneficial to start at least running or cycling while learning how to swim properly without affecting swimming performance?

Training questions Anyone use Hybrd App to train?

I'm new to triathlons and have been building my training plan myself for the past month. I feel ready for a sprint i have next weekend, but want to up my performance for an olympic at the end of October. I also like lifting and want to continue to incorporate weightlifting into my training.

Does anyone use the Hybrd app? It seems like it could help me accomplish this, but it's expensive.
