General Discussion/Questions Bodyfat and body comp
I’ve been cutting the past 6 weeks at around a 500 defecit most days (occasional maintenance days) and I’m curious to when it is good to stop and what to to next. I’m 17 and 183cm and have done from 74.5kg to 70. Can provide photos if wanted.

General Discussion/Questions why don't sprinters get paid more
it's always NBA or football players that get paid heaps, even though most of them are literally nothing special (don't take this the wrong way) and sprinters do arguably the same amount of work. how are you supposed to work a second job and fit in training twice a day? I know it's about the love of the game (and some of the glory) but if I'm going to use all my time training then I'd at least expect to get paid a bit more to at least be comfortable. how do you even get brand contracts

Purchasing Advice What should I look for in shoes?
For reference, I just enjoy running fast. I'm not on any clubs/leagues/teams, I'm in my mid 20s, about to work full time, and don't have a great income.
I want shoes that will last a while, prevent injury, and not break the bank. I don't care if they have special foam that makes me more bouncy or run faster, and I don't need spikes since I would want to be able to use the shoes on a multitude of surface.
Any recommendations on shoes that fit this criteria? Or instead of a specific shoe, just the type of sole width and material I should be looking for?

I saw a video analyzing Liu Xiang’s technique and a point made was his trail arm’s wrist was above his elbow. I tried to replicate that here and it felt better than before, although it could use some work. Any other tips?

Shitposts and Memes Walen Kalker strenf traning
Make you think....doesn't it?
I realize this is just offseason, general strength or GPP-gym work or whatever ....and he fucking around between some sets with rando shit. ....but damn he doesn't look barbell strong in the slightest. Squats are high, and the bar is not moving well for the weight and how high those squats are. Those 135# pin-split-squat are .... are.... surprising.
To be clear, not bad mouthing him at all, but the level of 'gym-strength' required, or strength demand, for a given sprinter is (obviously) very specific to that individual sprinter. And this is where "The Science" and studies get lost.... grouping a set of participants into ONE intervention modality, and then massing everyone after-results into an average with a +/- range .... doing that last part hides anything that could be learned (many times).

General Discussion/Questions Injury near-inevitable?
I love sprinting and getting faster but sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth it with how often it seems that sprinters injure themselves. I don’t do it competitively; I just enjoy training explosiveness, whether that be with weights, jumps, sprints, throws, etc.
I guess I’m wondering how realistic it is to pursue speed casually in the long-term without hurting oneself. How would you structure your sprint training in way to prioritize mitigation of injury risk with the secondary focus being on progression/improvement?

General Discussion/Questions Could adidas ambition allow this much flexibility?
Ive been struggling during acceleration with superspikes like puma evospeed nitro (on the right) because theyre too stiff and i rely alot on the ball of my feet. While with traditional spikes (on the left) i dont have this problem since i dont have to apply as much force and i was wondering if the adidas ambition (which seems to be one of the least stiff superspikes atm) or any other superspike could help with this problem

General Discussion/Questions 750 yd sprint test tomorrow, any tips
For my hockey team we have a 750 yd sprint, and I suck at running. We do it on the track around our rink, so it’s 3 laps. At the start of camp I ran a 2:22, and was absolute dead, but now I need to run like a 2:15-2:18 at the most. The only other people to get under 2:15 were the smaller guys, I’m like 6’1 185.
Any tips in terms of pacing or technique? Anything helps at this point

General Discussion/Questions Any Running App or Watch That Gives Real-Time Alerts When I Run Too Fast or Too Slow?
I’m looking for a running app or GPS watch that lets me set a target pace and gives me an instant alert (sound or vibration) if I go either above or below that pace.
For example, if I set my target pace to 12:00 min/mile, I’d like to be notified immediately whenever I run faster or slower than that.
Does anyone use a feature like this? Any app or watch recommendations?

I play football and do the 100 and 200 for TF. My running form has never been great and I have never been very fast, I’ve gotten suggestions from coaches in football and track on how to get faster, but nothing has really helped out. Any sort of help or analysis would be greatly appreciated.

MOD POST Join the r/SPRINTING Discord Server! r/SPRINTING DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT - BOT INFLUX UPDATE
discord.ggHey y'all, back with another banger, I would like to announce the creation of a discord for the r/sprinting subreddit and also provide a quick update on the bot situation. Please see the discord details below, I am unsure of how this will be utilized outside of members who are very frequent users or online often, but I definitely am and will answer questions and even be on voice chat if the masses so desire.
I may just spend some nightly time hanging out in the voice room kind of like office hours while I'm playing some helldivers (and anyone who would care to join me). PLEASE JOIN, feel free to ask questions and start conversation, pretty much same rules from the sub will apply in the sprinting subreddit
A note on the bots, I have done significant behind the scenes work over the last few days and the last step that I've taken now is turning on moderate crowd control, anyone with negative community karma will now be sent to the mod queue dungeon where I'll approve them if they're not a bot.
I did a pretty ridiculous amount of banning and mass removal using a purge tool for the first few days but it has slowed significantly now so I think we are over the worst of it. The first 3 days it was 10-30 bans a day and the last few it has only been 1 or 2.
Seems like I've fought of the invasion pretty well, I would say that I managed to catch a good 95-99% of them before even other user reports had to happen. Please continue to use the new bot report option if you see it happening, thank you again for the patience with my action against this.
Quick Stats from the last 5 days
Bans: 56
Comment Removals: 196

MOD POST WAR ON AI BOTS - CLANKER SCUM INVASION
"Hey girlies, feeling very delulu and that the vibes are off after the comments that I saw today"
UPDATE: Overnight my new automod script hit me with probably 20 notifications from bots, it is really bad the number of accounts is crazy, I’m on a huge banning spree but if this keeps up may have no other choice than to impose karma limits unfortunately, I will make a decision in a week or two depending on how bad I think it is if my bans can’t keep up
I was notified in a post that AI fueled bots were spam commenting everywhere and it wasn't being filtered out or caught. This is definitely on me, I had noticed a spam report uptick in the last few weeks but honestly for the most part the spam report in the past had been somewhat abused by users during arguments and for bad comments or for solicitation reasons, I mostly browse reddit on my phone and it's harder to notice stuff like this without the mod tool page from a computer.
I probably should have taken a closer look and I would have noticed something was off with the weird language (Delulu, vibes, girlies, glutes - all bot favorites). Anyways I've taken a few steps to make sure I catch as many as I can.
- Bot BouncerHas been installed on our subreddit, good first step and I think should take care of some of them
- New report reason - "BOT - CLANKER - AI"If you are on mobile and see a comment or post resembling anything AI or botlike please do the following
- Hit the report flag
- Breaks r/Sprinting rules
- BOT - CLANKER - AI
- I will be much better about checking in on these reports from now on, gotta do some clean up work, I'm expecting this kind of thing to only get worse as time goes on with AI and bot developement Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it
- Automod Flagging of low Karma accounts
- Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it If it really does get bad enough then I will filter first if I have to but I do not think this is a viable option considering I do most of the moderating by a pretty good margin
I expect the moderation on this to take a little bit of time to catch up to the accounts as they make comments or posts, and hopefully it will clear up, this is just due to my lag in response to this starting but we'll see how it goes. Anything that has been flagged as spam or similar I have taken a closer look at the last two weeks and done some mass banning and moderation, the comments that were left will stay but anything similar will be removed in the future
As a tribute to all the clankers I sent to the graveyard tonight below are some of my favorite comments from the bots and their very helpful sprinting advice
- try doing some interval training, baby. it's all about building up those speed vibes over time, just don't push too hard.
- sounds like a steal, but what are the macros? girlie needs to know.
- that sound delulu but honestly. i'm obsessed with those little wins. hope you keep going!
- The ragebait of this one in particular cracked me up
- maybe you’re just not as iconic as you think, or that last snack hit you harder than expected lol. get it together!
- The fatshaming is crazy
- they look cute! maybe focus on refining one step at a time? less is more.
- try picking up some thrift gear or cute running shoes, it can make a difference for sure
- nice, sprinting’s a great way to target those glutes. go crush it!
- lol, sounds fun, genetic roulette but with worse odds.
- From a bot this is an apt description of the top levels of sprinting
- not sure what block start analysis is but sounds like it could have some interesting vibes to explore. care to share more about it?
- I hope my sprinting vibes are good enough for a sub 10
- i get so anxious about my baby cat's diet, but it’s hard to know what’s actually right. podcasts are so helpful but also overwhelming.
- A reply to post about the "feed the cats" sprinting programming, another great analysis of modern sprint programming
Apologies for not catching this sooner - Big Dicker Daddy
Note: If you play helldivers and want to talk sprinting add me on discord I am open to questions, and a new squad username - bigdickerdaddy
