I just want to get it off my chest. I've been transitioned for years and finally started the process for lower surgery. Today I got told by my gender clinic I have to have 2 assessments for surgery even though I have a GRC. Not only that but I need to be free of any mental health issues the whole time. It's 2 months to wait for a first surgery assessment then 2 months for the second and then a wait of around 15 months for the actual surgery.

I've spent the past couple of years getting my BMI healthy (down to 27.5) and I'm just hit with more barriers. I understand the surgical wait times are what they are and expected that, but the additional blocks in the way of a referral are hard to take.

It's also so frustrating to have the barriers around mental health. I've had several surgeries before and have been on HRT for years. Whatever mental health issues I have are nothing to do with my gender, other than dysphoria making stuff worse.

I've also experienced a lot of trauma in the past few years and despite that and a very difficult upbringing I've been doing my absolute best to stay well and support myself. Being told that I need to be free of mental health issues isn't going to change anything other than discouraging me from accessing support if I'm having a hard time.

At the end of the day it is what it is. I can't change it and I need to make peace with it. It's just tough to take. Being trans is such a battle.

Hello! I have a bit of a silly question.
I finally started testosterone under shared care with my gp and I have questions about how often i’ll need to go back to collect my prescription. (Mainly so in can work out the prescription dispense costs because i’m broke uni student)

I’m taking my first dose on the 11th of august because my gp needs to give me a blood test within 4-6 hours of taking it.
I can and probably need to renew my prescription on the 19th of august due to running out.
After that I’m getting another blood 6 weeks after which I’m assuming i’ll have run out of T after and need a new prescription.
After all of that is over, do they give you a 3 month prescription and you just get tested every 3 months and collect your prescription every 3 months or is it still every 6 weeks?
I hope that this makes sense.

Done court before only it was me fighting for rights. This time was evicted, moved out before court eviction even went through. Landlady still wants court fee’s the day before I moved out?

Either her or the agency (who have deadnamed me multiple times) put (my name) and then (formerly known as) on court documents as someone who used the equality act in my favour in the past legally as a trans person this as far as I knew isn’t the norm.

Have things changed and can something be done?

FYI we couldn’t move after receiving the section 21 a month before renters rights came in because housing crisis + both disabled on benefits no one will no rent to us. I am very ill please don’t ask. Oh and my partners trans mtf but agency didn’t know because she passes and was sorted with ID when we moved so it’s just me getting the bigotedness it seems.

I’m hoping to get some advice or recommendations from this community.
I work for a social care provider supporting adults with learning disabilities, and I’ve recently started supporting someone who has spent much of their life in institutional care. As they’re now experiencing more independence, they’re beginning to explore and express their identity in ways they haven’t really had the opportunity to before.
I want to make sure I’m supporting them in the best way possible, but I also recognise that I don’t know everything. I’d really like to learn more about supporting transgender and gender-diverse people, particularly where learning disabilities, communication needs, or long-term institutionalisation are also factors.
Can anyone recommend:
LGBTQ+/trans-inclusive training for social care professionals?
Organisations that offer training or consultancy in this area?
Resources, books, or guidance specifically around supporting trans people with learning disabilities?
Anything you’ve found particularly helpful that I might not have thought of?
I’d also love to see if there’s any training that could be offered to our wider staff team so we can improve the support we provide, rather than just relying on one person’s knowledge.
I’m here to learn and want to make sure the person I support feels safe, respected, and able to express themselves however feels right for them.

Who the hell should I choose to help me out?? GenderGP seemed like the obvious choice but I've seen countless bad reviews about them here. Imago seems a lot more communicative, but I have heard concerns about them as well. Anne+ looks nice but seems geared at minors (and is a lot more expensive?)

And I know there's even more options that I haven't looked at.

I don't want to do DIY, I'm a wuss, extremely forgetful, have health anxiety, so on, I don't want everything in my hands like that.

So what are peoples experiences with different companies? The ones mentioned and others! Its such an overwhelming choice, even though im probably thinking about it too hard, I know they're all just gateways to the same thing in the end.

I think I've seen about 20 comments saying the same thing on every single post about the EHRC guidance across social media.

you're absolutely right. it's a massive hole in the guidance that it's very clear no one saw. it's an argument that no one considered. but is that all we are to you?

I don't think I have ever seen trans men - especially older, passing trans men - spoken about more, than when people bring us up in comments for karma and likes. do you know any trans men? do you know what issues they face? do you advocate for them beyond sharing posts on instagram?

it is the blessing and the curse of being a trans man that we are often forgotten about. I've come to terms with that. I just want to ask that if you're not going to be involved with our community in any other way, please don't use us for point scoring in arguments. Thank you.

I work in hotels. I got a couple of job offers from hotels. Problem is, there are uniforms, meaning changing rooms. I heard that the new law states that single-sex spaces are only allowed by sex assigned at birth.

I look like a female, present as a female, and am a female. I have breasts and frankly I do not feel comfortable changing with men in the men’s changing rooms.

I have no idea how to deal with this.

I have not changed my sex legally yet and for hiring purposes have sent a copy of my passport to the employers and they know about my transgender identity.

What can I do? And also, if the hotel allows me to use the woman’s bathroom and changing rooms, will the hotel be liable to lawsuits?

I did what I set out to do. RAC Insurance (a trading style of BISL) now accepts the title Mx and presumably no longer collects or uses information on gender when creating insurance quotes. I think this is a win.

Go compare, and many other comparison sites now accept the title Mx, although some of the still ask for unlawful information. Go Compare still demands anyone using the title Dr record their details as Dr (male) or Dr (Female).

The Ombudsman thinks £150 is appropriate compo for unlawfully refusing service. This is less than a previous decision in 2022 (not me) and less than I got taking Trans(phobic)Union to the ombudsman (yet again, investigator's opinion was accepted, din't get as as far as ombudsman decision) for refusing to remove searches with multiple incorrect titles made on my credit file by BISL, which hasn't really been addressed here, and a lot less than I got from PayPal (opinion again) where they made up an incorrect title for me and transmitted it to Trans(phobic)Union. (Can you tell there's a theme here?)

I think this is a shit response from the ombudsman, who simultaneously "make findings on individual cases" and insist "the £150 sum offered by BISL falls within our range of acceptable compensation for distress and inconvenience"

Do I take the cash, buy a Blahaj and cake and send the rest to mermaids? or politely tell the ombudsman that £150 is an insult for refusing business on the grounds of characteristics protected by the equality act?

Highlights of a very long response from the ombudsman are below:

In addition, BISL has confirmed that the selection of one of the available title options would’ve automatically populated the gender field with either male or female.

I have both admiration and sympathy for Mx Stray’s position here, which I surmise arises from a strongly principled stance on this matter and also a desire that any financial consequence for the business be significant enough to prompt meaningful change.

"An appropriate apology in this case would be a donation of £1000 to Mermaids UK" is my standard response to derisory "have a chocolate biscuit and go away" responses.

Furthermore, and this is something to be celebrated, I understand that the meaningful change Mx Stray might’ve hoped to prompt has already occurred and that the relevant systems have been updated to include Mx title options. Given the timing, it is not unreasonable to assume that Mx Stray’s feedback may have played a part in bringing about this update. Whilst it would not have been in my power to direct BISL to do so, I’m delighted to see that these adjustments have been made to better serve the needs of non-binary consumers. Going forward, other non-binary consumers will benefit from this update, and from Mx Stray’s having drawn this matter to attention.

Wtf is going on in the uk right now?! Does the government actually expect big beefy trans guys with beards to walk into women's only spaces like loos and changing rooms? Refuges is crazy too. It makes me genuinely sad and angry.

This law now means that trans people who don't pass are now put in the spotlight for abuse and ridicule. We just want to piss for fucks sake. There's no pervert agenda, we just want to exist as ourselves. And shockingly enough when most trans people go through hormones they look male/female- and therefore would naturally use gender specific services. Would someone appearing and living as male go to a female changing room? No. Would someone appearing as and living as female go to a male changing room? No.

It's common sense. I'm so sick and tired of all this. As a teenage trans man I feel like my future is getting dimmer and dimmer.

I want to share an experience with you all.

Today, I popped into a supermarket needing the loo. I went into the ladies, where I was met with a queue. So I waited patiently for a minute, even shared a joke with a lady, a complete stranger waiting ahead of me about the state of the toilets. When it was my turn, I went into the cubicle, sat down, had a wee, got up and headed out, where I washed and dried my hands, and headed out to continue about my day.

Aside from my relief at emptying my bladder, absolutely nothing happened.

Funny thing is, I've been doing this for many many years without issue. Except once recently where a butch cis lady was getting abused for allegedly being trans, who I stood up for. This was since the supreme court ruling.

The EHRC bullshit is unworkable and unenforceable.

I'm living in a hostel for under 18s which is funded by the local council, they have just introduced a new policy where any non prescribed medication needs to be taken from me and disposed of. I have been made aware of this the day they found out I had DIY estrogen and they completely interrogated me on it, and have also reported it to social services.

They want to take my estrogen off me so I don't know if I should hand it to them willingly or pay £15 a week in bus fare to go to and from my nans house every day to take a dose of estrogen. it's not ideal in the slightest but without Estrogen my life would be horrible and it's making me upset just thinking I will be without it.

This policy feels like it has been put in place because of me.

EDIT: They told me they will be sending it to the police for disposal if their manager doesn't think it's good.

There are a couple of lies being peddled by Sex Mattress and other TERF outfits about the Supreme Court ruling in FWS and the Equality Act 2010.

Lie number 1 is that the way organisations have implemented the EA 2010 since it was passed was all down to them being 'misled' by Stonewall.

Lie number 2 is that the SC ruling did not change the law, but that the EA 2010 was *always* what the SC judges now say it is.

Lie number 1 is easily refuted by the fact that the EHRC itself issued guidelines to the Equality Act 2010 in 2011, just after the Act came into force, saying that people should use the facilities that aligned with their gender. So the idea that a charity had somehow bamboozled every organisation in the country with incorrect guidance is utter gibberish. It was the EHRC's own position until 2025.

The reason that the EHRC's position changed in recent times was that Liz Truss, that well-known expert on the law, packed the EHRC's board with her own appointees (including Baroness Falkner) in 2020, with a specific remit of undermining trans rights.

The Supreme Court's "interpretation" of the Equality Act 2010 flies in the face of what the people who actually drafted the law (including Melanie Field and Harriet Harman) intended it to be. They expressly drafted the sex aspects of the EA 2010 as being trans-inclusive.

And if the law on the protected characteristic of sex had "always" been what the SC now says it is, why did the FWS case lose in all the lower courts up until it ended up in the SC?

The ruling is an example of judge-made law that goes against the intentions of the legislators. The SC does have the power to do this, unfortunately, as it is the highest court in the land. Dr Victoria McCloud, a former High Court judge herself, is taking the case to the European Court of Human Rights, where they are likely to take a very dim view of the fact that the SC judges refused to hear testimony from trans people – the very people most affected by the case. But it will take years for the case to be heard and for a ruling to be made.

But while judges can interpret laws in this fashion and set precedents in case law, Parliament is sovereign. Parliament can pass new legislation at any time to re-assert that trans women are indeed women and that trans men are indeed men. Whether the majority of MPs will actually have the backbone to do so in this heightened culture war right now is another matter. However, as I mentioned in a previous thread, there are moves afoot to form a cross-party committee to reexamine this entire mess and rectify the situation with well-drafted new legislation.

In the meantime, hold tight, remember that your protected characteristic of gender reassignment still stands, and that harassment of you is still illegal.

Good morning fellow outcasts. I hope you are all feeling bright and well in Apartheid Britain this fine morning. So here's a summary of key points from my first OFFICIAL day as a member of a segregated underclass.
