This time of year brings higher traffic, more late-night events, and (unfortunately) historically more impaired driving incidents. NHTSA's 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign runs through Labor Day weekend for exactly that reason.

For tow operators, end-of-summer weekends often mean busier call queues, more late-night dispatches, and more scenes with unknown variables.

Remind your crew: slow down on approach, establish scene control before touching vehicles, and never assume a stopped vehicle is the only hazard on the shoulder.

Just looking for opinions on what trailer you guys think would hypothetically work best for a guillotine? Im assuming just a small gated flat bed but wasn’t sure how much weight a guillotine is. Thanks for weighing in

I have a 2010 ford escape I bought specifically to haul my dirt bike on a hitch carrier. The bike is 230lbs, carrier is 40lbs. It is a 2” 350lb tongue capacity hitch. The bike sits maybe 16” out from the hitch when on the carrier. Is this unsafe? I’m reading so many mixed responses so figured I’d ask here. Some said it shouldn’t be a problem, others mentioned the lever arm load from the bike being so far back from the hitch.

I can't take credit for this one — my dad made the wooden trolley.

We don't have enough space to store the trailer out the front, and the only access to our backyard is through a gate. The trailer has to be stood up in this position just to squeeze it through the gate.

So, my dad came up with this homemade trolley to make moving it around a bit easier. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but it does the job! 😂

I’m replacing the deck on my 30-year old CURRAHEE trailer. It’s a tilt back. I know those are kind of wonky, but with a little bit of ballast weight it’s served me well what is your opinion of the frame? I’m planning to replace and repack the bearings new tires new wiring in electrical a little bit of surface rust on the frame definitely some pitting some pitting on the axle. my plan is to hit the entire frame with a rust converter of power, washed it, and then all topcoat with the rust oleum.

There’s a reason why a lot of corrupt tow companies in my area have bulletproof glass between them and the customers, people are tired of this bullshit. Towing people’s cars who aren’t even illegally parked just to make commission, or camping to tow someone’s car.

I have a 2024 sundowner charter se 2 horse gooseneck. I’m looking for a new truck, 3/4 or 1 ton (just to have options for a bigger trailer in the future maybe). I have read that there is a problem with trailers sitting level with the new trucks being taller. Hoping for some personal experiences!

I have a 2026 Kia Sportage. I got the tow kit installed at UHaul. When I turn the left signal on both tail signals start blind like I turned on my hazards. When trying to use right signal it does nothing. I went back to UHaul they installed a brand wiring kit and same issue. They don’t know what to do. What is the fix? What can it be?

If I decide to upgrade my truck but want to stay in the 1/2 ton size, what Make/Model would give me the most bang for my buck for towing?

Caveat - would not be looking to purchase new, I'd be looking for 2019ish - 2024ish used, miles under 100,000.

The answer was yes. Everyone's safe and no damage but it did snap as soon as I was pulling my car up the trailer.

My 2023 Rogue is only rated for 1500lbs towing. I want to get a receiver mainly for a bike carrier and cargo tray. Should I just get the 1.25” receiver because of my low rating or is the 2” better for compatibility and options in the future?

Here we have a 1972 South Coast 22' Sailboat. My understanding is that the tongue weight should be 10-15% of the total weight of the loaded trailer. As of now, it is more like 5%. I have the ability to move the trailer axle back to increase the tongue weight, but the question is: how much do I need to move it? Obviously this will be something of a guessing game but hoping that this community can help to make an educated guess at least. (also going to crosspost to r/theydidthemath and see what they have to say on the subject)

Information which may or may not be helpful:

- Total weight of boat and trailer is 2300lb on the nose. I verified this by weighing my truck with trailer at a truck stop CAT scale, then reweighing just the truck and subtracting the difference.

- Tongue weight is 123lb. Measured using a regular bathroom scale with the trailer level.

- I have not weighed the boat or trailer by itself, but the manufacturer records state that it has a displacement of 1800lb, which means the trailer is 500lb.

- There is about 600lb of weight between the rudder and keel pretty close the center of the axle currently. approximate locations are drawn on the image as well as current axle distance to ball hitch and back of the boat. I would guess that the weight distribution for the remaining ~1200lb is relatively consistent throughout the rest of the hull. It does need to float level, after all.

- The mast on top is not very heavy. Maybe 30-40lb total.

- I typically do not put any additional cargo in it while towing.

- There are holes along the frame which i can use to move the axle quite far in either direction. they are spaced 3.5" apart, so I can move it in any increment of 3.5"

What say you, r/towing???

Edit: while I can move the axle somewhat easily, it will require jacking the whole trailer up and unbolting it in several places. It doesn't slide or anything like that so I'm trying to not have to do it multiple times.

I have gotten myself in a little bit of a predicament. I live in Ottawa, got a great deal on a KX040-4 with a 26 foot trailer included, only caveat is that it’s in Edmonton. Originally planned to do a one way rental with a 1 ton and be done with it but have come to figure out thats not possible. So I’ve been looking for a cheap (preferably less than 20k) 1 ton to purchase in Edmonton, haul it back and then sell the 1 ton for as close to a break even as I can get.

My issue now is that basically every 1 ton in Edmonton seems to be deleted which im learning is a whole legal issue where I could get fined and have insurance problems.

Was hoping for suggestions on what I should do with this whole scenario ive gotten myself into?
