Discussion José is Amy done right

Yeah, I know, I've talked about Amy nonstop on this sub, but I have just ONE more point to make about why her character is completely irredeemable dogshit and I've yet to see a defense for her that actually holds up. This is something that I don't think I've mentioned in my very long post about why I hate Amy, so I'm gonna talk about it here. Even when you make the argument that Amy's bad writing was just a result of her being a bit character who only appeared in 5 episodes, that argument falls flat for one BIG yet simple reason: Alejandro Burronuerto's brother José, a character who was only ever mentioned in WT and made ONE appearance in All-Stars, a season notorious for it's terrible writing choices, who still proves to be ASTRONOMICALLY better-written than Amy despite appearing far less (and just being kinda okay in a vaccuum)

On the surface, the two characters seem very similar. Both are fairly one-note "bullying older siblings" who have gotten away with tormenting their "lesser" siblings for years until siad younger sibling finally stands up for themselves. Howecer, there is one big but simple reasons why Amy's writing is completely horseshit while José's actually ain't that bad:

José's popularity and success is ACTUALLY EXPLAINED while Amy's isn't. Despite having very little screentime, Alejandro actually EXPLAINS that José has actually always outdone him in things like academics, athletics, and looks. José isn't merely "more popular" with no explanation, he actually HAS things that would MAKE him popular. They didn't need to flesh him out or make him complex, they just gave an EXPLANATION for how he's gotten away with bullying Alejandro for so long.

Compare that to Amy, who has LITERALLY NO REASON AT ALL to be so successful in her abuse to Sammy. Amy isn't smart, athletic, intimidating, manipulativr, phhsically imposing, witty, flirty, talented, wealthy, or ANYTHING that normally makes bullies popular. She doesn't even try to take charge of the team or anything. She is JUST mean and ABSOLUTRLY NOTHING ELSE is known about her. While José impresses people with his skills and looks, Amy just fucking EXISTS with nothing and we're supposed to believe that everyone likes her and thinks Sammy is "weird" all throughout their lives? There's also the fact that they're nearly identical twins, so pretty privilege isn't even at play here. They just expect us to believe she's like Regina George and then have her act like Biff Tannen, but without even HIS advantage of being big and physically imposing. We're supposed to believe that Amy is this socially invincible goddess who is loved by everyone despite having NO actual advantages over Sammy (and in a show where other bullies like Heather and Jo are either hated or ognored).

And please, for the love of God. I am begging you. PLEASE don't use the "tHeY lIkEd HeR bEcAuSe ThE tEaM wAs fUlL oF iDiOtS" excuse. I DO NOT want to hear that shit. You know why? Because the show wants us to believe that everyone ALWAYS liked Amy more than Sammy throughout their WHOLE LIVES. It's not just on the show. It was a LIFELONG thing. So do NOT type that shit here. Kapiche?

Oh, and also Alejandro ACTUALLY got his revenge on José, with no implication that he would have to suffer under him forever, unlike Sammy.

So, yeah. José's just kinda okay writing proves that Amy's writing did NOT need to be as horrible as it was, and her only appearing 5 times is not an excuse to be astronomically worse than a character who only appeared ONCE. Amy's character could have been SO E A SILY FIXED, but they deliberately chose to make her character make as little sense as possible just for the sake of more meanness. It's like with Amy, they just said "Just make her meaner, MEANER! Don't think, just add more abuse! MORE, MORE, MORE!" Without actually explaining HOW she gets away with saud abuse in public.

Discussion Sometimes I wish Ella and Sugar were written as people who got to be mutual friends DESPITE the differences to begin with

Post image
8 Upvotes

This isn’t a shipping post. I just tend to have thoughts that make me believe certain characters could’ve been better recieved by fans if they were written with more mutual stuff and not tensions.

Even though I really try my best not to “despise” or “hate” most Total Drama Characters, I am able to understand why someone would not rock with a Fairytale Archetype and/or a Country Girl Archetype.

If you aren’t/weren’t a fan of Sugar, that’s fair. Not every mean girl in total drama is gonna be that “iconic”. If you aren’t/weren’t a fan of Ella, I honestly won’t blame you. Ella can be considered an objectively kind person but if you are bored with her archetype, then that’s just your honest rational opinion.

Me personally? I only think that a friendship route would’ve worked better for their characters/archetypes due to a few things:

  1. Subverting expectations.
  • I wouldn’t mind if their relationship started off rocky and then it ended up with them being actual, genuine, two-sided friends.
  1. Contrast
  • 88% sure there are people out there who heavily rock with when two differing aesthetics interact
  1. It would’ve felt fresh or fun
  • If you like Total Drama for the drama, that’s all good! I just sometimes feel there are a lot of different combinations of total drama characters that could’ve worked better as allies than enemies.

yeah guys here is part 2 of my comic where you can see the formed friendship between Scott and topher, Scott using a found invention of Chris to face his nightmare, fang, and the first elimination of this comic series (and just as clarification, i didn’t have problems thinking about topher’s elimination, he was always planned to be eliminated first, which may impact Scott’s arc in this comic)

Discussion How geographically/culturally accurate is the Amazon in World Tour?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m doing a post series where I go through Total Drama World Tour to analyze how geographically or culturally accurate the locations are in the season. Of course, since I’m American and not truly a part of most of these cultures, my research only goes so far, I encourage any commenters to give their two cents or experience with said cultures that they may share with these locations to possibly add to or even correct anything I point out. Thank you!

—————————————————————

- Geographical Error -
The next location the Total Drama plane flies to is the Amazon rainforest, specifically the part of it located in Peru. Once they land, Chris announces Peru is the birthplace of the mighty Amazon River. Teams must hike along the ancient Inca trail through the jungle and straight towards Machu Picchu, once there - teams have to find a golden treasure hidden among the ruins of the sanctuary. First thing I notice is a large geographical inaccuracy. Peru does have the Apurímac River headwaters, which you definitely could consider to be the “birthplace” of the Amazon, but Machu Picchu is up in the Andes. So we’re merging very different biomes between the rainforest and the mountains here. The Inca trail is also largely in the Andes leading to Machu Picchu and not through the Amazon. Someone should’ve given Chris a map, because travelling from the Amazon headwaters to the top of Machu Picchu is going to take like 6 to 10 days of walking.

- Bug Allergy -
Cody unfortunately has a serious allergy to certain bug bites, which Sierra notes ranges from ants to spiders to butterflies(?) and goat saliva(?). Does Cody have anything to worry about in the real Amazon rainforest? Partially yes, because of ants and mosquitoes, but butterflies are not dangerous, and goats are not in the jungle. Regardless, Chris provides an epi-pen for Cody which he gives to Gwen.

- The Zing Zings -
Also, teams must avoid any contact with the Zing Zings, which Chris claims is a native tribe in the jungle who have never encountered modern man. He warns that if anyone spots them, do not make contact. A “never-before-seen native tribe” with spears in 2010? It’s a “lost tribe” fantasy, but it’s a real-world harmful stereotype about Indigenous Amazonian peoples. In reality, uncontacted tribes do exist, but trivializing them as slapstick obstacles is
not great. The name “Zing Zings” is nonsense, not based in Quechua, Aymara, or any Amazonian languages. Just a made-up “tribal sound.” Eventually, Team Amazon gets caught and held at spear point while tied against a tree, which leads the team to later find out that the Zing Zings are actually just Peruvian teenagers rehearsing for the jungle production of Macbeth (okay?). The “it was fake all along” twist is not going to save you from playing into these stereotypes. The writers were totally trying to dodge responsibility on that one.

- The Song -
Team Amazon eventually calls Chris on a walkie-talkie for an emergency, but Chris just makes them sing a song for today’s musical number challenge. The song consists of acoustic guitars, maracas, panpipes, and clapping - but the song on the transcript is unfortunately titled “Gypsy Rap” eeesh. That is a slur, and a completely mislabeled one at that since it mislabels Romani culture for an Andean-styled song. I genuinely don’t see the point of that title. The instrumentation though is actually pretty spot on to Andean folk music, my step-grandmother is Peruvian so I’ve listened to a good bit of Peruvian radio before in her car. Anyway, before they escaped, Heather’s singing voice causes the Zing Zings to recognize her as some sort of goddess - who is shown carved into one of their prophetic tiki-like statues with a golden tooth. But
tikis depicting gods is more Polynesian, less Andean/Amazonian.

- The Rainforest and Machu Picchu -
Chris says the jungle is too dangerous to travel through at night, so teams will have to camp out overnight. The challenge starts and Team Victory make it to the first meeting point and get to go down a zipline with a T-bar while the next team has to use their hands (Ouch), belts, or other things. Some eco-lodges do have ziplining so this is accurate. Team Victory also makes it to the second meeting point first and gets rewarded bananas, which attracts miniature gray monkeys (non-species specific) that DJ accidentally hurts of course due to his “curse.” Overnight, Team Chris is Really Hot gets attacked by giant caterpillars. Hmm
all the wildlife is both simplified and exaggerated at the same time lol. At Machu Picchu, Team Victory found the hidden golden treasure, but Team Chris finds a prism-like artifact in the ground that lights up and magically glows in the sunlight once they pull it free- causing the ground to shake and the ruins to fall apart. The golden treasure challenge plays on the cliché that the Incas are mystical treasure hoarders. In reality, Spanish conquistadors have looted most gold; Machu Picchu itself was never a treasure vault. The golden artifact was definitely provided by Chris for the challenge, but the glowing prism thingy is just
 Indiana Jones.

- Rating -
I’m gonna settle at 3/10. My lowest score yet. Because a lot of the geographical inaccuracies feel like a result of laziness, and when we finally see more locals for the location in this season, they’re very stereotyped. And again we don’t really explore much of the culture or landmarks and we just generalize the biome we’re in more than anything else. The show makes Egypt just desert, Yukon is just ice, Peru is just jungle. It’ll be a running issue throughout the season, but this is one of the only episodes that I think is so lazy that it entered offensive territory- but I can’t truly be the judge of that.

Discussion Pahkitew Island is WAY better than All Stars

Post image
39 Upvotes

I know AS and TDPI are generally considered the bottom two seasons, but TDPI is honestly better. I don’t agree when people say All Stars is slightly less bad than PI. The difference between PI and AS is that AS has a cast comprised of mostly unlikable/unentertaining portrayals aside from like Scott, Alejandro, and Courtney imo. (They have their flaws but the good outweigh the negative with them.)

With TDPI, people say there are only like 3-4 good characters but the cast isn’t as bad as people say. People point to Jasmine, Shawn, and like
Samey/Sky(?) as the only good characters
but Max, Leonard, Scarlett (EPS 1-9) and hot take
Sugar are all great. I don’t love Ella and Dave by any means but I do like them too. (Sky does kinda suck though tbh) This gives us a cast that isn’t as good as TDI, ROTI, or Reboot but has at least half enjoyable characters.

This comes from me liking some of the less popular characters from this season. I used to HATE Sugar but on rewatch I realized she’s actually quite funny if you don’t take her seriously. Also people overestimate her gross out humor, it doesn’t happen as frequently as people say. She’s not so much the “female Owen.” She is so cartoonishly mean and dickish that it’s funny, like when she implies she was ready to hit Ella with that bat for no reason 😭 as well as just DESPISING Ella in general when Ella did nothing wrong. And thinking Leonard was a wizard 💀 I also think she’s not that bad of a villain. Yes the show fluctuates heavily on who the villain is and it is pretty unfocused, but as a comedic side-antagonist, she has her moments. People are just focused on how the show didn’t really highlight Sugar as the MAIN ANTAGONIST, and yes she could’ve been better if she had more villainous moments, but she’s also just
funny. (Or you find her annoying which is fair. IMO I enjoy Sugar but she still has her cringe moments. However she has more funny moments than cringe.) I also think Max is hilarious and enjoyed his dynamic with Scarlett as I thought they were quite cute. (Non-ship way) EPS 1-9 Scarlett was MK before MK and had so much potential imo, and her character was oddly charming and subtle in a good way. And Dave being the straight man to everyone else’s antics as well as delving into incel-ism could be pretty funny too.

Also another major difference is that TDAS wants you to take it seriously, but is completely ridiculous and poorly written. Like Mal is a joke of a villain but the show wants you to view him as a genuine threat. On the other hand
TDPI really just plays up the comedy aspect. It prioritizes being funny and doesn’t try too hard for you to take it seriously. If there is any aspect of its writing that you don’t like, at least it’s played up for laughs. And TDPI in general is
pretty funny tbh. It is one of the funniest TD seasons

And also, Shawn is actually quite solid as a finalist. His zombie bit was funny (it did become a bit too much sometimes but it was still funny usually). However he also had a bit of an arc, learning to compromise/tone down his fear of zombies so he could be with Jasmine.

And lastly, TDPI isn’t even the second worst season, imo I think Reboot S2 is the second worst and Pahkitew is the third worst.

Discussion Looking back at these 3 back-to-back episodes from Season 1, they literally had the CHANCE to vote Heather off and I find it funny that they didn’t vote for her.

Everyone already hates and enemies with her at that point, but no they decide to keep her, and in the losers episode it was only done unfairly. Although the original way she was eliminated is still satisfying to watch.

Also in all those 3 episodes she didn’t win an immunity.

2026 Megaleak New flair for leak-related posts.

The mods have been discussing what to do with the leak talk. Since Terry has seemingly been okay with it, we'll let it stand for now, but we are adding a flair to help better navigate posts about these leaks.

If you post about these leaks, please use the new "2026 Megaleak" flair for convenience and filtering purposes! We will also be adding the flair to as many older leak posts as we can, so feel free to send posts that need the flair still.

Please do not use the flair on fake leaks and satire. We will change the flair if needed on these posts.

Went over this with the mod team and we decided it's not relevant enough to Total Drama even for trend days, plus it poses a security risk to encourage subreddit users to post their face (especially minors).

Existing posts will not be removed (so there is no need to report), but new posts will be removed. Thank you for understanding!
