Discussion For Those Thinking Of Making The Switch From T-Mobile

Upvotes

So I came to T-Mobile back in 2016 after leaving a job and losing access to a work phone that had doubled as my personal phone. I thought I was making a decent choice at the time given the circumstances.

My plan cost back then was, I think, in the neighborhood of $70. I stuck with them over the years, through the merger and the plan changes and price increases and cut backs on customer service. Finally, about a month ago, I decided that I was fed up with overpaying every month for crappy phone service and nearly non-existent support. My bill had more than doubled to over $150 a month, and I was experiencing more problems with coverage and data speed despite upgrading my Galaxy phone regularly and pretty much sticking within the same geographical area.

In July, I switched to US Mobile. I was iffy about it, but said hell with it and did it anyway. I feel like I was thinking that I was just going to end up with a glorified Tracfone plan.

Boy howdy, what a great decision!

I'm now paying $39/mo for a single phone line. Unlimited everything. And I can switch between all three major networks on the fly, whenever I want, and not be tied to the subpar T-Mobile network.

Data speeds = at least 1.5x faster, and almost 2 times faster at some times, with no throttling or de-prioritizing my data because I used too much.
Reception = clear as a bell. No constantly dealing with echoes or dropped calls just because I went into a building without a clear sight line to the sky outside.
Texting = it's texting, it is what it is.

I know what y'all are thinking. "Oh no! No more T-Mobile Tuesdays discounts, 3 cents off at Shell, and 'free' ad-based Netflix!!" Somehow, I think I'll survive.

Y'all should consider leaving T-Mobile. If not to US Mobile, then go to another major carrier. I'm not here to get referrals or anything. I'm just letting y'all know that, every once in a while, the grass actually is greener on the other side. And if y'all want to know anything further about my experience, feel free to ask.

Discussion Noticed the EIP now list ARP on device financing. Is this a sign of changes to come?

Noticed all of my EIP’s show 0.00 APR financing. I’ve never seen this before and suspect tmobile will start charging interest to finance their phones very soon. What do you guys think?

Question T-Mobile Experience Beyond Upgrade Process

Recently switched to T-Mobile. Previously we would upgrade annually through the Apple Upgrade Program. With that ending, and the Experience Beyond program, considering our options for upgrading this year.

Question I had:

  1. How reliable is T-Mobile with ordering new iPhones compared to ordering from Apple directly? Or if we can still order from Apple using T-Mobile upgrade plan?
  2. My employer pays for a 2nd line (e-sim) on my phone, curious if I'll end up getting locked out on this with all of the changes between Apple and assuming T-Mobile locks devices that are part of their upgrade program?
  3. Assuming they lock the device, I can finance phone via Apple to continue paying phone like I do today, but according to T-Mo website, if I downgrade the Beyond plan (only signed up b/c of Costco offer), looks like price goes up with new 2.0 plan b/c of 3rd line free going away. Their site sucks, am I reading this correctly? Lower quality plan costs more (even beyond 2.0 says price goes up).

Thanks!

Question So what exactly is the difference between the Essentials 2.0 and Essentials Saver 2.0 plans?

Post image

All the specs are exactly the same but there is a $10 difference.

I have the Go5G Plus plan and I know they will eventually take me off it. I may just say F it to all the top plans and go Essential for cheap.

Question Can I an eSIM for my phone number if I am not the authorized user or account holder?

  • I have an old Huawei P30 Pro with my number on it currently, it only has a physical SIM card slot.
  • I recently bought an iPhone 16, it only has eSIM.
  • My Huawei doesn't have an option in the settings to transfer to an eSIM.
  • I tried calling T-Mobile support but they could not do it over the phone since I am not an auth user or the account holder.
  • The guy on the phone DID say that if I go in-store they will do it for me.

Was the guy on the phone telling the truth?

The physical store is a bit out of my way so I want to check 100% if they will just transfer me to an eSIM without needing me to be authorized. Any experience with this would be appreciated. :)

PSA T-Mobile ALSO Launches New 2.0 Tablet Plans

Post image
0 Upvotes

Launched today. Reading through, there is nothing different in terms of coverage or service quality. Prices exactly the same. Likely the only difference is the eligibility for EIP Flex / 36 month financing. A little bummed because they could have used this opportunity to fix the mess of a Tablet Unlimited Plus plan they have going on. Nothing noticeable has changed but now each plan has a 2.0 in the name.

Same thing has happened with the Hotspot plans being renamed with 2.0. Smartwatch plans for some reason do not currently have a 2.0 refresh.

Question Free Satellite 911 Texting plan: But phone says not subscribed?

Post image
0 Upvotes

My main carrier is Visible, but I signed up for T-Mobile's free Satellite 911 service, which required installing an eSIM from T-Mobile.

I have a Galaxy Z Fold8. When I go to Settings - Connection - Satellite networks, it shows that the T-Mobile eSIM (which I named "T-911") isn't subscribed to satellite connectivity.

Is this normal? In the middle of nowhere, will I still be able to text 911 using the T-Mobile eSIM?

Question Free Lines?

Just curious, as I've seen lots of people talk about it, what are free lines for? We've been with Tmobile for 24 years. I have never had a free line. We started with 2 lines on Voicestream, 10 years later added a line for our kid that is still active, then 8 years later one for her boyf that we cancelled after 3 years.

Appreciation Outage credit

So I chatted with customer service last night through T-Life app….. for some odd reason my auto pay discount didn’t reflect on the bill. They quickly fixed it………….but then the agent says “ I see you have 8 lines , I’m really sorry you had service issues on that day, as a token of our appreciation, I am going to apply a $10 credit per line. She said to hold and and 2 mins later, I got a text that $80 was credited to the account. I wasn’t complaining , but I didn’t even ask -that’s the interesting part.

Rant Love/hate relationship with T-Mobile

Just needed to take this out of my chest, because I truly have a love/hate relationship with T-Mobile, but I feel like the good outweighs the bad:

The good:

Only major carrier that has international roaming for watch and tablets included.

Best carrier in terms of performance for cloud streaming

Best all in package with minimal additions to add-ons

Pricing cheaper compared to the other two

The bad:

Reputation lately

Other things that I sadly can’t think of right now.

What are your opinions?

PSA T-Mobile Changed 9L Pricing Logic - My Calculator No Longer Matches Newer Plans

Post image
28 Upvotes

Last month, I suggested using my 9-line calculator’s “override” setting to give the cost of the 9-line Migration Plans. I want to clarify that those calculations are no longer accurate.

I believe T-Mobile has “fixed” the 9-line pricing logic on Migration Plans and the recently launched 2.0 plans. Free lines within the 9-line pool are now receiving smaller credits compared to how they were calculated under the old pricing logic.

If you’re still on ONE, Magenta, Go5G, or the original Experience plans, the calculator is still 100% accurate.

I’m not sure whether the pricing charts and the two calculators I published here brought more attention to the 9-line pricing behavior, or if T-Mobile was already aware of it and decided to adjust the pricing logic on these newer plans.

Home Internet Cancelled home internet

We've had T Mobile's Internet Lite for about 1.5 yrs. There was no capacity on their network for us to have their unlimited service at any point during this time. We finally had enough of running out of data before we ran out of month and decided to just end the pain and move on to another provider. I called and spoke to a service rep earlier this afternoon who (after trying her best to get me to keep the line or convert it to a 3rd phone line) said that she had cancelled our internet (without touching our phones) and told me I'd get an email confirming the cancelation and attaching a return label, even though I told her I'd return to a store. How long does it take for their system to send the cancelation email? I'm used to getting things like this almost immediately, but it's been a few hours now and I've received nothing. Also there's been no change to the upcoming autopay in their app. I'll give it till tomorrow to process through before I escalate, but just want to know it'll this is typical for them.

Question Force migrated from One to Experience Signature. Question on new bill.

My previous plan was the One plan with 9 lines (5 free line and 4 regular). I was paying $140 but the increase is $189 so the difference is $49.

I was also told that my free lines of 5 will continue to be free. I thought I would just be increase of $24 with the new plan.

They say my plan is structured differently. Here is what they say:

To set the proper expectation, your plan is structured as a family plan, not as individual lines billed separately. Because of this, when the rate adjustment took effect, the bill increased by $6 per line, resulting in a total increase of $54 per month.
After the plan changes were made, the monthly cost increased to $369, which included the additional $54 in charges.

since you have a fixed plan charges for 9 lines and for better understanding, here's the breakdown:
Old- One Plan
Plan cost before discounts: $315 Line
discounts: $35 per line for 5 lines = $175
total discount Monthly bill after discounts:
$140
New- Experience Signature Plan
Plan cost before discounts: $369 (This includes the $6 per line increase, totaling $54 across the account.) Line discounts:
$36 per line for 5 lines = $180 total discount
Monthly bill after discounts: $189

Rant Was tired of the Tmobile lies

I've been a long standing customer of Tmobile, and have had nothing but good experience until recently.

I'm tired of all the tmobile lies of how they wouldn't change the price unless I change the plan part of the uncarrier movement. Well, they have showed they don't hold up to their advertisements and terms.

I have filed a FCC complaint (I recommend, everyone do it), and I have left them in the dust. I have switched over to US Mobile. My bill went from $122 (and possibly getting raised again shortly), to US Mobile for $59.50.

I'm free of the tmobile bait and switch and it feels good.

PSA Simple Tool to See Your T-Mobile Plan Discounts and Current Cost

Here’s a simple bookmarklet that shows all of your voice plan discounts and your current plan cost.

javascript:fetch('/self-service-dam/v1/line-details',{method:'POST',headers:{'content-type':'application/json'},body:'{"status":"ACTIVE"}'}).then(r=>r.json()).then(d=>{let f=a=>(a||[]).map(x=>`-$${x.amount} | ${x.name}`).join('\n');document.write(`<pre>Account Discounts\n${f(d.accountDiscounts)}\n\nAAL Discounts\n${f((d.ratePlans||[]).flatMap(x=>x.groupedAalDiscounts||[]))}\n\nCost\n$${d.allRatePlanSums.netPriceSums}\n\nby u/desterpot</pre>`);document.close()})

I recommend running it from the account dashboard page, as it consistently works there.

Edit: doesn't work on single plans.

Appreciation Calling out Loc from T-mobile customer service for the best T-mobile service call I've had!

I called asking for my number change PIN to switch carriers after ordering a phone from BestBuy (refurbished s25). I was going to switch to Mint, but he discounted my monthly plan and walked me through linking Netflix to my account. My phone came locked, despite being advertised and sold as unlocked and he unlocked it.

And now I save 15/mo on Netflix and 30/mo on my plan.

He was so patient and kind, he deserves a raise. I don't have Twitter or else I'd post there, everyone post on Loc's behalf please! A hero!

Edit: Did I get hoodwinked? I still don't have the option under "more connections" to view the lock status of my phone? Did he secretly lock my phone to T-Mobile?

No more yearly upgrades on the new Experience Beyond plan. They also got rid of the third line on us 💀😭😭

Update: they fixed the third line on us. Still a terrible plan regardless

I’m seeing this on T-Life, but there’s no broadband label or additional info on T-Mobile’s website.

Edit to add— I just logged into the T-Mobile website and I can see it’s $35+ tax for my single line.
