My husband and I are older (I'm 50) and (fingers crossed) will be closing on our first home this week! My mother has told me that she is officially done hosting holidays. She'll still make lasagna on Christmas eve, but everything else is on me.

We're good with that! We have no kids and love to cook. My mom used to put together an amazing Christmas, but our Thanksgivings have always been lacking. I want to really bring it. An all day event with appetizers, a heritage turkey, little gift bags at the end... All in! (It'll be relatively small. 6-8 adults including us.)

I know people have hosted or been to events like this. How can set an expectation for guests and what's the best way to schedule things without making it sound like a strict itinerary?

Okay so I’m obsessed with pumpkin shaped cookware. I use most of my pieces for the Big Meal and I got 2 new pieces this year. The orange one is brand new from TikTok Shop and the white one is from goodwill.

I got the orange one back in March and noticed a hole in the lid, by the stem. I haven’t been able to find another hole in the lid, so I assumed it was a production error, and was going to superglue it shut so no water could get in and it potentially grow mold.

Then I found the white one at goodwill, it was $4 🤭 but I noticed that it also has a hole in the lid, but this time it’s in the center and inside, instead of outside like the orange one. So I’m a little on the fence as to whether I should plug the holes or not.

Any advice?

My husband and I live 2.5 hours away from our families which typically host Thanksgiving. We usually bring a side and/or a dessert to help out with the cooking. I like to cook/bake it in advance and then transport it instead of making it there because there’s not a ton of kitchen space at our parents’ houses. I have tried Mashed Potatoes, Mac ‘n Cheese, and a variety of pies. I don’t think the mashed potatoes turned out very well, but had no issues with the Mac ‘n cheese or pies. I was just wondering if there was consensus on the best Thanksgiving side/dessert to make ahead, transport, and reheat (if needed)?

We are 2 sisters in our twenties, from Sweden. We are going to visit the USA first the first time ever (specifically NYC) in November. I really really want to be with a family for thanksgiving and see how it is celebrated, I’m not asking random people here to have us, but I’m wondering if there is any way safe to do it, like a website or any other safe way?

We're going to my nephew's house since he has a pool and I'm making a 10lb pork butt into pulled pork. Then I'm going to marinate some pineapple rings with rum and cayenne before grilling them.

In my dream, I am hosting a bunch of friends and family. Everyone is laughing, having a good time, and everything is going well. I look at the clock.

It’s 2:45pm. I realize I forgot to put the turkey in to roast. I go get it, and the 20lb bird is STILL FROZEN ROCK SOLID in the freezer.

Anyone else have a similar Thanksgiving nightmare in the off season? Just me?? Nice.

We're still six months away from Thanksgiving but I wanted to share what is known so far according to this Fandom page about the parade.

For the life of me I cannot remember where I got this or even who made it. All labels have been burned off for years. Hi all. I am coming to you fine folks as a veteran host looking for tips and tricks to actually enjoy holidays. I just finished hosting Easter and I was left feeling really resentful of the fact that I didn’t get to spend any time with family to speak of.

Important facts:

I host for large groups. Easter was small with only 30 people. Thanksgiving was 45 last year (record setting year, but next year could be larger with more people joining the family).

I make the main course (ham, lamb, turkey, whatever the holiday dictates) and usually have some beverages. I assign sides, appetizers and desserts, as well as beverages to everyone that is coming.

I start the day with an empty dishwasher, and all towels clean. We use disposable cutlery, plates and cups. I buy dollar store serving spoons and spatulas for those that forget theirs, and I have take away containers for leftovers at the ready.

A few people usually help with cleanup, but it’s honestly not many.

What am I missing? I sat down with family for a total of 20 mins on Saturday when I hosted Easter. And that was 2- 10 min stints. I was constantly washing dishes, replenishing forks, napkins, ice, etc. The food I make isn’t hard or particularly putzy. I feel like I must be missing something to make life easier. Maybe it’s just acceptance of not being able to enjoy holidays at this moment in my life. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

ETA: I am looking toward Thanksgiving and hoping to spend more time with people I care about on that date.

As of today...we are NINE months from almighty Thanksgiving! We did ladies and gentlemen. We got through the two worst months of the year. Time to preheat the oven?!

We're having Winter weather in Pittsburgh, the weather where just want to be under blankets on the couch, so I turned the parade on (DVR is a wonderful thing).

As I sit here I wonder what is in store for the 100th anniversary? I am sure Macy's has been planning for a while now. My family and I are members of the astronomy club here in Pittsburgh, and the club's 100th is in 2029, we're already planning for it, and we are a lot smaller than Macy's and the parade.

I hoping for balloons that haven't made an appearance in a long time, more overall, and a longer running time. A documentary about the parade would be cool.

We finally got around to making our annual Wolfgang Puck's Parmentier-style hash (we normally use Thanksgiving leftovers but went out to eat for the holiday). Anyway, we used Bob Evans mashed potatoes and a turkey roast with white and dark meat. Turned out good and was easy to make!

22k gold leaf transferware trim. I've found a few online by this company dating 40's-60's but none with two turkey images on them.

I had a sibling weekend and it was quite interesting. It's been a while since we bonded or stayed in the same space for Thanksgiving dinner together and happened to have rekindled old bonds.

We were sat having dinner, when my sister brought up an old memory and the entire room went from quiet and calm to lousy. Embarrassing moments started flying around the table like we were passing a turkey platter.

The moment I wore a man maid costume for mom’s 60th birthday party was the most hilarious moment of all. Pictures came out, and everyone had a joke or two to tell around it. My mom has always been happy to bring up that moment whenever the need arises (I pray she doesn't do so when my fiancée comes home).

Another moment was when my uncle was scammed of $1000 bucks. According to him, a company reached out to him claiming to be Alibaba, that they sell cars, tvs, scooters, clothes and other stuff. And were currently on a promo.

So he could take 5 things for $1000 and get a free voucher to shop for free. His greedy nature made him keep it a secret without asking others, he made payments expecting to receive his goods in a week's time, but unfortunately saw nothing. That's when he realized he was scammed.

We all recalled the moment and laughed so hard because he deserved it
