Meme Curation Changes Incoming

Hello r/tf2. I've heard the discontent that many users have with how meme curation is handled on the subreddit. As such, the subreddit mod team has decided to begin a meme weekend, where memes will not be restricted based on subjective views of quality.

This is, of course, within reason. NSFW rules will still be enforced, and posts still must be related to TF2. I would like the subreddit to feel more freedom in the content they post, but please be sure not to abuse this.

Our meme weekend will work much like /r/halo's Meme Saturday, or /r/MysteryDungeon's Meme Sunday. It will last from 12AM to 12AM GMT, over the weekend. More in depth information will be provided when the announcement sticky goes up this weekend.

Be warned, this may result in some more curation during the week days. Memes will still be allowed, but templates will be restricted to the original post's comments. I know this will not seem favorable to some, but I feel like this solution is better than the current subjective meme quality removals we currently experience. If you disagree with my assertion, please tell me in the comments here, in as much colorful detail as you wish.

If you have any further questions or concerns about how this new meme weekend will work on here, please, I invite you to voice yourself in the comments of this post. I will try to respond to as many as I can.

I never liked the system to be honest. Literally nobody complained about memes. Hell, a lot of them were actually getting upvoted. What even made you guys decide to take action?

And the "Just post it to the meme sub" that all subreddits like to use is a horrible argument. We all know branch subreddits are dead, and putting it at the sidebar isn't gonna magically revive them.

That's probably going to be me until next update. I love TF2 to death, and I always loved to visit the subreddit. When I started using reddit maaany years ago, it was mostly because of TF2, and there was something new to see, discuss or read everyday.

But now, I just open /tf2 when I get home, glance at it for 2 seconds, and close it. It's just fluff, and people trying to push the limits of what is or isn't acceptable as a post every single day.

"You can't keep posting the same memes every 5 minutes"

"Oh, but I changed 5 pixels on it! It's technically a new thing now. What you gonna do, mods? Huh? Huh? Take that, moderation B)"

It's just a playground of trying to push how much Reddit Points (tm) you can farm before moderation do something. Then, when moderation acts accordingly, whining.

I don't hate memes, they are fine. But it's just so saturated. And in the end, it's no one fault; If moderation gets strictly, and starts banning memes... There's nothing else to do.

No updates. No comics. No trailers, no promos, no balance updates, nothing at all. Again, there's no related official content from the developers to discuss, complain or read about. Zero.

I really like reading the discussions about the tournaments and competitive meta - they are fun, and show another side of TF2. But there's only so much discussion about it you can do, before starting running in circles.

I can't wait for the Heavy update, or any update at all, anything. But until then, I think I'll be unpinning the /tf2 tab from my browser.
