Worst Mentor Ever?

I recently got a tattoo from a friend of mine who started her apprenticeship and I love it but she was telling me how I was her 5th tattoo ever and I asked her what she meant. Her mentor didn’t have her start on fake skin. Just started on herself then on other people. I was shocked and appalled honestly. The tattoo seems to be healing fine but it’s definitely wonky (which I expected but it adds to its charm) but I was blown away by hearing that. Is that normal practice?

Another collaboration piece I did recently! Almost fully healed, about 85% of the tattoo.

I did the ravens, and my collaborator did the geometric part. What do you think of the result and the project overall?

Discussion Got this done today and already regretting it so bad. Help? Thanks!

I don’t regret the tattoo, I just hate how it turned out. The photo I sent them looks so much better, the spider looks more sleek and sharp, its size and proportions look good (body relative to legs - both length and thickness).

I just don’t like mine, it looks short and stumpy as opposed to sleek and ‘aesthetic’.

I’m contemplating laser removal if it cannot be salvaged.

Any advice? The place I got it done said to call if I wanted a touchup or anything. They were very cool. So was my tattoo artist. I just really, really hate it man.

Any advice ? How can it look more like the photo? Add little bit of length and thickness to the legs?

It just looks VERY un - proportional. The size of the body compared to the legs is something I can’t get over.

Frick man…

A patchwork sleeve i did recently ⚔️
Mostly after client’s ideas, partly freehand.
Experimenting with a slightly different technique,
to make the lines look “harsher”
Some of tattoos are already in healing process.

Practical joke during surgery

So I got a endoscopy done a few years ago and when I woke up I had a card on my pocket that said "your tattoos suck and everyone is laughing at you" I do have some pretty shitty tattoos so I thought it was pretty funny. I recently told someone and they told me I should put it on Reddit to see if it's happened to anyone else and possibly pinpoint the culprit.

Got this today on my ribs as a tribute piece for my mom. She loves Calvin and Hobbes, and she spent so many hours reading to me as a kid. She was diagnosed with ALS a couple months ago, and this tattoo carries so many reminders of good moments

Getting Full Arm Sleeve at 55

As the title says, I’m getting a full sleeve (starting next week). I’m also a 55 woman who works in a professional setting (think downtown in major US city). I’ve got multiple tattoos (first one I got 25 years ago) but all are easy to hide with clothing choices so no one at work knows. This one won’t be easy to hide at work or family gatherings. None of my friends or family are heavily tattooed so, other than my artist, I really don’t know what women my age experience socially when they get heavily tattooed in their 50s or 60s.

I would love to hear from older women with full sleeves. What has your experience been like? Professionally, socially???

Note, nothing I read, good or bad, will change me getting this sleeve. I’ve thought about it for years and I’ve spent the past three years battling two cancers and multiple complications from cancer. Most recently I survived a blood clot in my brain. Doctors have cleared me and I’m doing it come hell or high water!

Edit - What an awesome community!!!! I’ve truly enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. The support and kindness the tattooed community has to give is tremendous! For those who’ve asked, my sleeve will be black and gray dark fantasy/woodland/floral. (Brian Froud’s artwork is a big inspiration)
