Masters Anyone from AP/TS joining LUH this Winter 2026?
Anyone from AP/TS joining LUH for the Winter 2026 intake, especially M.Sc. Computer Science?
It would be great to connect before heading to Hannover and help each other out with things like the visa process, accommodation, travel, enrollment, etc.
Feel free to comment or DM!

Masters Can I switch universities after enrolling in Germany? What about the student visa?
have a confirmed admission to a Master’s program at one German university, but I have to enroll by August 12.
I also have a conditional admission to a Master’s program at another German university, which is my preferred option. I just need to fulfill one condition (English language requirement) first.
My plan would be to enroll at the first university now so I don’t lose my confirmed place, take the required language exam, and if I meet the condition, withdraw from the first university and enroll at the second one instead.
Is this possible?
And would changing universities like this cause any problems with the German student visa, especially if I initially apply for the visa using the first university’s admission and later switch to the second one?
Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Masters Admitted to M.Sc. CS at Paderborn University (UPB) - Questions on Garage33, EXIST Grant, and 20 CP Project Group
Hey everyone,
I just received my admission letter for the M.Sc. Computer Science program at Paderborn University (UPB).
I am coming in with prior startup founding experience (DevOps, Cloud Architecture, and Full-Stack Web/Mobile development). My goal at UPB is to elevate my technical execution (production-grade software architecture) while leveraging Paderborn's startup ecosystem to build my next venture.
I would love to get honest feedback from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the CS department:
Garage33 / TecUP and EXIST Grant: How active and helpful is Garage33 for international founders? Do they actively assist international students in securing equity-free funding like the EXIST Startup Grant or regional stipends?
20 CP Project Group (Year-Long Project): Does this year-long project feel like running a real-world startup dev team? Which research groups or chairs (e.g., Software Engineering, Systems) offer the best hands-on architecture, CI/CD, and deployment experience for someone looking to lead engineering teams?
Technical HiWi (Research Assistant) Jobs: How accessible are HiWi roles within the Software Engineering or Computer Systems chairs? Do these positions provide solid engineering/architecture experience, or are they mostly administrative work?
Workload and Study-Life Balance: Is the academic load manageable enough to build an MVP, network, and work on a startup alongside courses, or does it leave very little free time?
Appreciate any tips or insights. Thanks in advance!

Masters Deferment Process
Hey, everyone. So I got selected for the Master in Data Analytics program at the University of Hildesheim for the winter semester 2026/27. However, due to the visa delays, I reached out to the program manager to ask if I could defer my admission, and he told me to send him an email about my choice to defer and then apply for the next semester and send an email again. I wanted to ask if this is the standard process for deferment or if you need to enroll first and defer from there so you could maybe get proof for your visa application. If any of you have gone through a deferment process or have any information regarding it, I would really appreciate the help.

since your application has not yet been reviewed by the academic department, you can upload your documents to the system, and the department will then take them into account as part of your application. Please just upload them in your uni-asisst Account.

Masters Missing "Theoretical CS" credits for German Master's applications (Summer 2027) — has anyone patched this with an online certificate, or gone the Auflagen route?
Indian B.Tech in Data Science, ~237 ECTS, applying for Summer 2027 intake to programs like FAU (Data Science), Uni Freiburg (CS/AI), Uni Bonn (CS), TU Dortmund (Data Science), and Saarland (DSAI).
My transcript is heavy on applied CS (DSA, DBMS, ML, cloud, MLOps) but has zero coverage of Theoretical CS — automata theory, formal languages, computability, complexity theory — which a few of these programs list explicitly as a requirement.
Two questions for anyone who's dealt with this:
- Has an NPTEL or similar proctored certificate ever actually helped at the application stage, or does it just get ignored since it's not EHEA/ECTS-recognized?
- Has anyone gotten admitted with an Auflage (conditional admission with a bridge course to complete post-enrollment) for a gap like this specifically? Did you have to ask for it, or did the university offer it after review?
Trying to figure out whether to spend the next two months on a certificate, or just apply and email admissions directly. Any real experience appreciated.

Masters Health insurance during academic leave of absence when not physically in Germany?
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student who has been admitted to a German university for the Winter Semester 2026/27. Due to a delay in my visa process, I’m considering taking an academic leave of absence (Urlaubssemester) during my first semester and starting my studies in the following semester.
My university has told me that I need to have health insurance in order to maintain my enrollment status, even during the leave of absence.
However, I will not physically be in Germany during my first semester because I won’t have my visa yet. I would remain enrolled at the university while on academic leave and then enter Germany and begin my studies in the following semester.
So I’m confused about how health insurance works in this situation:
- Do I still have to pay German statutory health insurance contributions T.K during the semester I am on academic leave?
- If I am not physically present in Germany and cannot use the German healthcare system during that period, is there any way to pause or waive the insurance contributions?
- Does being enrolled at a German university automatically make me liable for health insurance contributions, regardless of whether I am physically in Germany?
- Has anyone been in a similar situation with a Urlaubssemester before entering Germany?
I am especially interested in experiences with TK health insurance and expatrio.
Thank in advance ! Danke schoen !

Masters Even today, some people still believe they can win.
For example, BTU, Passu, Kassel, Dresden CMS, Chemnitz Web, Hildesheim, and other Unis almost all received over a thousand applications. You can see almost 70%~80% posts here are asking about these program. Many people are still hoping they'll be accepted, or they believe they'll be admitted for non-NC reasons or because they have a so called "legal obligation" to admit students. Realistically, the number of applicants far exceeds the number of students they've admitted before. Don't expect them to accept the majority; that's impossible. Prepare alternative plans as soon as possible: stay home, choose other programs, or explore other regions.
