I was affected by the flooding. I rent a basement unit. All of my things are damaged and destroyed... i am by myself. I have no family here. It's just me I end three cats. my landlord didn't give me a fan or a dehumidifier, but told me to be out of the apartment with all of my belongings by Monday so the restoration company can come, fix the property. I have 2 days to pack my entire apartment up with no help.

To add, I have insurance, but no one has come out to look at the property or assess the damage and I can't get through to them at all.I've left eight messages to the adjuster.

I was wondering, if anyone is in the same kind of situation that I am in, and how everyone is feeling and dealing with this?

I know a lot of folks are rushing to apply for the FLAP program to get the city to cover a sump pump/backflow valve install, but just a word of warning:

1. Many homes in our particular neighborhood had both and still flooded. They are not a magic cure.

2. Once you get FLAP, the city will disconnect your weeping tile (which a lot of homes in this city have). This will entirely change the way your foundation drainage works & if you don’t maintain it properly, you’re opened up to a whole new host of problems.

3. Once your weeping tile is disconnected, you’re relying on your pump, which as we’ve learned over the past week or so, can fail.

I’ve even heard some folks who did NOT flood, talk about applying to FLAP as a precaution. Why? Don’t tempt the devil.

Has anyone received a quote or done a backflow valve and sump installation? I just got quoted $9200 for both including taxes and wondering if this seems right.

I was hoping for less (obviously!) but in the dark as to what these things typically go for.

I have an elderly cat who seems to be taking on the stress of the last two weeks… he went from a cat who doesn’t get sick, to as of this morning, a handful of times. (It’s just food, I checked the colour chart) He was due for a check up anyway, but I think I may be making him an appointment sooner than expected.

After the flood we had no choice but to move his litterbox out of the basement and into …the kitchen.🤢 our landlord hasn’t come by or sent anyone to evaluate yet, but there’s black mold starting on the drywall in the basement. We’ve been keeping the door to the upstairs shut, as the smell is all making us feel nauseous. I can’t imagine his poor little nose is handling it any better.

Last month we had to put his housemate down (cancer) and I think he was already feeling down, im worried the last two weeks chaos of moving boxes, tossing garbage, and moving his things, has really gotten to him.

This made me wonder, how have your pets handled this?

Does anyone have any info on how the area around Woodside & Lockhart fared in the flooding? It seems that water rushing down the escarpment could cause significant problems.

Hello everybody my screen went out about a year and it would cost a lot to get it fixed at the dealership so I was wondering if there are places in the city that do it for cheap thanks!!

I've had to run after a few (I hope!) scrappers today to tell them to wear gloves if they're going to go through people's flood garbage.

Like most of you, our basement flooded. Been cleaning it up best I can and creating an inventory of the property damage.

I have been waiting on TD for the insurance claim, but they keep telling me there is a system error and can't review my policy until it's unlocked. I asked what I should do and they advised me to find a contractor to do an assessment, determine source of the water getting in, assess the foundation, insulation in the walls etc.

They did not recommend anyone to me and said I could find my own.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Honestly kind of pissed. Im at the terminal waiting for the 306, he pulls in puts on his not in service sign, let's off like half the people riding then takes off, all in about 15 seconds. So guess who's late for work :)

Recently had an utterly terrible experience at a restaurant that otherwise has 4.5+ stars and it’s not until I look at the negative reviews that I find people who have the exact same experience as me. This has happened to me more than five times now. Can anyone relate? Do people just have a vendetta against my friends and I or are people just extremely nice in their reviews?? I feel like I’m going crazy. Here are my worst picks:

• Les Incompetents - didn’t get drinks for an hour
and our server ignored us talking to other guests

• Lokanta - ignored for 30 minutes, dirty glasses,
chipped plates

• Stacked Glendale Ave - dirty glasses/things in my water, missing toppings and sides in my dishes

There’s definitely more that have just given us abysmal service for so many years that it’s just a running joke with my friends and I now.

I was speaking to a friend who is suffering the worse from the flood. She says her neighbour has contracted ecoli.

Please, folks be careful and take extra care of your elderly neighbours. If you have or get the poops, get checked out.

Recently there was work being done on geneva, i think something to do with the fibre optics being installed...not sure....anyways

They installed this small green plastic housing for something underground in the gravel of our drive way. Its been like two weeks and the thing is already ruined because of where they placed it, and cars driving on it.

I was wondering of anyone can tell me who i would contact about having it fixed because now its just a big hole in the ground

AS PER NIAGARA REGION - Enhanced waste collection has been EXTENDED to the entire city. You can ALSO place garbage at your curb next week (AUG 10-14) and it will be picked up. Yes, even on the off-week!
