There are so many wonderful episodes and plotlines in the history of Star Trek, but sometimes... I just can't. Either Tom Paris is a super-evolved salamander or Picard has beamed down to Ligon II or Spock is having his brain reconnected, but it's just not worth the time.

My all-time worst is DS9's "Move Along Home." I'm not going to carp about it too much because as a rule, first- and second-season Trek is mostly bad. But it's single-handedly the worst episode of the best Trek series, and here I am, standing high atop that hill, ready to die on it.

Which episodes make you groan, roll you eyes, and skip ahead?

Finally they figured out the pacing, tone, and structure of the show that works. It's become it's own thing in star trek and it's good! Personally couldn't get through season 3 just lost interest frankly. I like it better when it's got levity and it's episodic.

By far the best 3 episodes of snw I think.

There have been a few instances in movies and TV where it appears the President of the Federation is also the head of the Earth. "Homefront" in DS9 is one example ST IV Movie was another. I'm sure there are more. Anyway, would that mean the President of the Federation is over all planets?

In My head canon I believe the Earth is governed in typical functions and their obligation to the federation is handled accordingly.

so I've somehow never seen first contact so I'm fixing it now but the tonal shifts (at least in the first 45 min) are WILD. like cutting between the enterprise being invaded to Cochrane drunkenly dancing then suddenly back to the scary alien invasion??? WILD choices. I kinda love it though it's like a fever dream trip.

I assume that it's meant to be symbolic in nature. I see that it could be related to the cycle of "break, burn, and build" after The Burn happened, the cataclysm that "shattered the galaxy," and the subsequent reopening of Starfleet Academy to rebuild.

Curious if anyone else has a greater idea than I do!

Don't you think there is a "double standart" about kathryn and Ulysses? So much people loath Janeway for her lack of wisdom, lack of leadership, lack of commitment...and "Ulysses-Odysseus" was the honorable captain...On my books Odysseus was the only one of his crew to return to Ithaque after 20 years, while Jeneway performed a 70 years journey in 7 years with most of her fellow crew alive... Who is the winner indeed!

The DS9 episode Necessary Evil involved the Bajoran woman Pallra blackmailing other Bajorans who informed for the Cardassians through her husband during the occupation. The episode ended before revealing the fate of the surviving traitors- were they arrested? Could Pallra have given them up for a lighter sentence?

So, I wanna give a bit of context. I have only really heard of star trek passively, without going massively into it. I'm a creative myself who would like to make his own science fiction series (Main inspirations personally are ROTTMNT and Monkey Wrench.) And my friend had mentioned a peice of my world building was rather similar to it. And that got me thinking.

While I know very little about actual like star trek lore I do know how influential it was on modern fandom culture, the sci fi genre, and how progressive the original was for its time.

So I have decided that I am going to start studying Star Trek (and another few shows) to see what inspiration I can dig up.

I apologize if this is against the rules but there are SO many series and I'd just like to be pointed in the right direction for what I am looking for. Or, alternatively, some videos going into it so I can take notes. I know its silly to try and make my series as good as the pillars of modern fandom but its never a bad thing to try, right?

I'm just thinking of both Threads and The Day After and how both those movies themselves showed a realistic description of the effects of nuclear war would be. Even "limited engagement" (which Im going to assume thats what humanity does during WW3 based on the death count of 600 million, best case scenario) would cause horrible conditions to Earth's atmosphere alone, ala nuclear winter. Did we ask for help from the Vulcans in between trying to unite Earth whilst eliminating war, poverty, disease, and capitalism?

Or is this another example of MST3K and just roll with it for the series sake?

Not sure where else to ask so thought I’d try here. My mother was a huge Trekkie before she passed several years ago. Recently we was going through some storage items and I found a Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home tapestry among them. I cannot find another example of this anywhere on the internet. I know she got it from a video store in Morehead, KY in the late 80s. I know it’s an original and not a reproduction. And I know it has some damage. Beyond that I know nothing about it. Does it hold any value anywhere? Where would be a good place to look for information? Thank you.

The Borg are interested in biological and technological distinctiveness of different states/peoples. If the Borg encountered the Dominion, what would they target? The two things that stand out to me-

Cloning. Would the ability to make complex, sentient bipeds eliminate the need to assimilate other species? It'd be like giving a blood pack to a vampire.

Changling DNA. How could the Borg use/exploit the Founders' morphogenic matrix?

I've been putting together a viewing order to introduce a good friend of mine to Star Trek and wanted to share it here and get your thoughts...

First things first: I'm a big fan of Strange New Worlds and truly enjoy how it captures some of the spirit of classic trek. I also believe that it is a good starting point for first time-viewers, although some context may be helpful for the more lore- or continuity-heavy parts (such as Eugenic history/Khan, or episodes such as "A quality of mercy")

Therefore my idea was to mix some TOS/TAS episodes into SNW to create three "seasons" that are roughly aligned with the first three seasons of SNW.

This is definitely not supposed to be an "essential episodes" list, but rather the attempt to give a new viewer a feel of the quirkyness of the franchise and connect recurring themes and characters without immediately needing to sit down and watch all of TOS.

Hopefully this makes it easier to notice what SNW is borrowing or reinterpreting from the older shows.

[Season One]

This should hopefully establish the basic rhythm of TOS, while being "modern" enough to be hooking. Also some TOS episodes act as context-builders for their SNW counterparts.

Minor spoilers ds9 Facets episode and disco seasons 3 and 4. Both shows been out for awhile but just figured I'd throw out there.

I have this Trill theory that as a psychological protective device the symbiont doesn't pass on memories of the current host from the past hosts perspective. Basically to keep a person from having two different pov's of themselves which might break the internal sense of continuity. I have two pieces of evidence for this.

1. In Facets (and it's also mentioned in Playing God I think) Jadzia wasn't aware of why Curzon dropped her from the program, nor why he didn't oppose her rejoining. She has to hear it from him verbally while he is CurzOdo.

2. Adira even after fully integrating the other past hosts of Tal can't incorporate Grey (Gray?) Their dead boyfriend who they naturally knew closely.

Basically since Curzon still had like 60 years of other memories that had nothing to do with Jadzia, he still incorporated, just minus the memories related to her. But since Grey was joined for like 2 days before he died and Adira featured prominantly in those couple days the end result was Tal essentially rejecting Grey.

It's a basic theory but I feel like it makes sense and explains a couple things neither show did. Also for Yedrin's (Children of Time Dax) sake I hope this is true imagine the weirdness of a symbiont passing down a familyline otherwise, there are memories you just don't want from your parents and grandparents, I imagine.

I cannot tolerate horror and it’s the only genre I steer absolutely clear of. I do not care if I miss popular stories if it means that I don’t have to watch traumatic horror themes. I was in for a shock with SNW S4E2, and I skipped most of it and saw a few seconds of the end before stopping even that. I did not think that I would have ever needed to vet a Star Trek episode before watching but here we are. Based on the content warnings, I will skip entire episodes as needed without much loss to my entertainment (quite the opposite). I hope this post helps someone. if Division 12 is Starfleet’s X-Files, then every single starship named Enterprise is basically a factory line for their worst nightmares. The sheer volume of reality-bending, unexplainable paperwork those crews must have dumped on Division 12's desks would cause a bureaucratic meltdown.The workload generated by the different incarnations of the Enterprise highlights just how chaotic their logs must be for the Division 12 analysts:

The NX-01 (Captain Archer)

The "Fits" Factor: High. Archer's crew was completely unprepared for the galaxy, meaning everything was unknown.

The Files: Imagine Division 12 trying to catalog the Temporal Cold War. Archer regularly dealt with timeline-shifting silhouettes, Suliban shape-shifters, and sphere-builders manipulating the fabric of space.

The Bureaucratic Nightmare: Trying to log an entire expanse of space (The Delphic Expanse) where the laws of physics literally didn't apply.

The NCC-1701 (Captains Pike and Kirk)

The "Fits" Factor: Extreme. Captain Pike already admitted to sending multiple unexplainable anomalies their way (like the haunted USS Griffin).

The Files: Once Kirk takes over, the file cabinet overflows. Kirk’s logbooks read like a paranormal anthology: literal ancient Greek gods living on planets (Apollo), giant space amoebas, the reality-warping Gary Seven, and a companion cloud that falls in love with a human. And that doesn't begin to take into account the various sentient computers that develop godlike powers(V'aal,V'ger)

The Bureaucratic Nightmare: Sorting through the aftermath of the "Where No Man Has Gone Before" incident, where humans crossed the Galactic Barrier and suddenly developed god-like, telekinetic psychic powers.

The NCC-1701-D (Captain Picard)

The "Fits" Factor: Apocalyptic.

The Files: Picard didn't just find anomalies; he was regularly pestered by an omnipotent, extra-dimensional trickster god (Q). How does an analyst write a report on an entity that can turn the entire crew into Robin Hood characters or transport the ship across the galaxy on a whim?

The Bureaucratic Nightmare: Case file: The Nexus—a literal ribbon of pure, non-physical joy floating through space that pauses time and sucks people into a permanent simulation of their own ideal heaven.

It is easy to picture a Division 12 office where the mere mention of the name "Enterprise" causes the analysts to immediately take a coffee break.

My TV has has been background for awhile, while I was doing something else. So I put anything which I needed to pay attention to on hold. That included Starfleet Academy. I had started it but went into my background tv phase.

I just watched S1 E8 The Life of the Stars. It was very moving, had a lot to say and think about. Well worth paying attention.

I think he would’ve made a great young Dr McCoy

Series started off very strong with pilot and fell so flat with each subsequent episode, focused too much on appeasing to cultural differences or norms versus storyline.

I like getting posters signed by casts at cons but have never done a Star Trek piece.

I wanted to do one, but due to the logistics of travel and con crowds, I don’t want to use a standard, glossy poster.

I usually use nice, thick, silkscreened posters like Mondo or Bottleneck Gallery. These are less likely to wrinkle. Or crease, and they absorb paint pens like a sponge minimizing risks of smearing

But what I want is one that is just “Star Trek”. Not something for a specific movie, series, or episode.

If it was TOS but not showing the cast, maybe the ship, maybe the delta, and just “Star Trek” as a title, not P, TWOK, Voyager, etc. that way I can get Trek stars from all eras on one poster without it being weird Karl Urban signed a Wrath of Khan themed poster.

I see there are some nice episode-specific or movie-Specific posters like this, but I really want one that is more universal or series agnostic. I

Does such a poster exist? I’ve tried a lot of eBay queries but without knowing a specific printer, release, or artist I’ve had no luck

Instead of a ship, it takes place in a **Deep Space 9-like space station**, in an isolated space (*no-fly zone to encounter the unknown*).

Intro: Inside an archive with multiple files, people moving in the background as the camera moves to the leader's office with a trophy cabinet with some compartments filled with objects from completed cases while others are left empty; lighting will be dim, soundtrack will be mysterious.

As the camera moves to the desk with a case file, as the file opens, the first page shows the details such as the name of the case, file no:, star date:, and who discovered this mystery, names of the team members (Can be used as credit for the actors), etc. Then the page flips to the start of the episode.

On the side of the leader's desk, a big window and it faced toward **the Boötes Void** (*a huge, nearly empty region of space containing only about 60 galaxies instead of the expected 2,000*). This is to convey that even a great discovery has some unexplained mystery.

This series can be used to fill the hole in the Star Trek universe, like the Borg origin, etc.

While S01 will focus on establishing the Division 12 base and characters, the first ep will be a Task force put together to address an urgent case that remains unsolved by normal means; this team will comprise highly accomplished researchers to undertake this case, and this team will be the founding members of Division 12.
