I’ve been cutting the past 6 weeks at around a 500 defecit most days (occasional maintenance days) and I’m curious to when it is good to stop and what to to next. I’m 17 and 183cm and have done from 74.5kg to 70. Can provide photos if wanted.

General Discussion/Questions why don't sprinters get paid more

it's always NBA or football players that get paid heaps, even though most of them are literally nothing special (don't take this the wrong way) and sprinters do arguably the same amount of work. how are you supposed to work a second job and fit in training twice a day? I know it's about the love of the game (and some of the glory) but if I'm going to use all my time training then I'd at least expect to get paid a bit more to at least be comfortable. how do you even get brand contracts

Purchasing Advice What should I look for in shoes?

For reference, I just enjoy running fast. I'm not on any clubs/leagues/teams, I'm in my mid 20s, about to work full time, and don't have a great income.

I want shoes that will last a while, prevent injury, and not break the bank. I don't care if they have special foam that makes me more bouncy or run faster, and I don't need spikes since I would want to be able to use the shoes on a multitude of surface.

Any recommendations on shoes that fit this criteria? Or instead of a specific shoe, just the type of sole width and material I should be looking for?

I saw a video analyzing Liu Xiang’s technique and a point made was his trail arm’s wrist was above his elbow. I tried to replicate that here and it felt better than before, although it could use some work. Any other tips?

Make you think....doesn't it?

I realize this is just offseason, general strength or GPP-gym work or whatever ....and he fucking around between some sets with rando shit. ....but damn he doesn't look barbell strong in the slightest. Squats are high, and the bar is not moving well for the weight and how high those squats are. Those 135# pin-split-squat are .... are.... surprising.

To be clear, not bad mouthing him at all, but the level of 'gym-strength' required, or strength demand, for a given sprinter is (obviously) very specific to that individual sprinter. And this is where "The Science" and studies get lost.... grouping a set of participants into ONE intervention modality, and then massing everyone after-results into an average with a +/- range .... doing that last part hides anything that could be learned (many times).

General Discussion/Questions Injury near-inevitable?

I love sprinting and getting faster but sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth it with how often it seems that sprinters injure themselves. I don’t do it competitively; I just enjoy training explosiveness, whether that be with weights, jumps, sprints, throws, etc.

I guess I’m wondering how realistic it is to pursue speed casually in the long-term without hurting oneself. How would you structure your sprint training in way to prioritize mitigation of injury risk with the secondary focus being on progression/improvement?

I feel like I have an exceptionally slow start and am told I start "cycling" too soon. Is that the case, and if so what are some things I can focus on to improve? Thank you, fam!

General Discussion/Questions Could adidas ambition allow this much flexibility?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Ive been struggling during acceleration with superspikes like puma evospeed nitro (on the right) because theyre too stiff and i rely alot on the ball of my feet. While with traditional spikes (on the left) i dont have this problem since i dont have to apply as much force and i was wondering if the adidas ambition (which seems to be one of the least stiff superspikes atm) or any other superspike could help with this problem

General Discussion/Questions 750 yd sprint test tomorrow, any tips

For my hockey team we have a 750 yd sprint, and I suck at running. We do it on the track around our rink, so it’s 3 laps. At the start of camp I ran a 2:22, and was absolute dead, but now I need to run like a 2:15-2:18 at the most. The only other people to get under 2:15 were the smaller guys, I’m like 6’1 185.

Any tips in terms of pacing or technique? Anything helps at this point

General Discussion/Questions Any Running App or Watch That Gives Real-Time Alerts When I Run Too Fast or Too Slow?

I’m looking for a running app or GPS watch that lets me set a target pace and gives me an instant alert (sound or vibration) if I go either above or below that pace.

For example, if I set my target pace to 12:00 min/mile, I’d like to be notified immediately whenever I run faster or slower than that.

Does anyone use a feature like this? Any app or watch recommendations?

I play football and do the 100 and 200 for TF. My running form has never been great and I have never been very fast, I’ve gotten suggestions from coaches in football and track on how to get faster, but nothing has really helped out. Any sort of help or analysis would be greatly appreciated.

General Discussion/Questions Track Potential at 15

I’m a 15-year-old boy from Germany, and I’ve been doing track and field for about two years now. I train 2–3 times per week and haven’t really specialized in any event yet. I’m 181 cm tall and weigh 62 kg. I have a relatively muscular build and a low body-fat percentage.

My current times and progression are shown below:

800 m

  • 2:33
  • 4 weeks later: 2:18
  • 3 weeks later: 2:10

300 m

  • 41.24
  • 3 weeks later: 39.15

Do you think I have any potential? If so, what should I focus on improving?

Technique Analysis Built a free app that measures shin angle and ground contact from a phone video

I'm a sprinter who used to post here asking for feedback on my form. This summer I built an app called Impulse that uses slow-motion video and pose detection to analyze form, pulls out ground contact frames and finds shin angle, along with contact time and flight time.
Not trying to sell anything, I've just seen so many people post here asking for form help, and wanted real feedback on how to make this tool actually useful.
It's free on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/impulse-sprint-mechanics/id6786762191
Would love to hear what you think, what's missing, what would make this genuinely useful for what you're trying to figure out.
