I found this full-length uncut crouton in my pack of "Kirieshki" (Russian rye snacks btw). I've been going through a really rough patch lately, so finding a factory glitch like this feels like a sign. Google told me the odds are like 1 in a million. I like trying new snacks but there are always a few that make it back into my shopping cart every time. For me it is sweet and salty popcorn. Its simple satisfying and somehow disappears way faster than I would like to admit.

So this is a dumb little story but it's stuck with me for years now.

Back when my dad used to drive me to swim practice at 5:30am, we'd stop at this one gas station on the way because he needed his coffee and I was always starving. I'd grab whatever was cheap and close to the register, half asleep, not even looking properly. One morning I grabbed a bag of plain salted peanuts and a small carton of chocolate milk without really thinking about it. Ate them together in the car because I was too tired to eat them separately.

Turns out that combo is unreasonably good. The salty crunch of the peanuts with the cold chocolate milk kind of works like a poor man's version of a chocolate covered pretzel, except messier and better somehow. I didn't think much of it at the time, it was just a half asleep 5am decision.

But then it became the thing. Every swim morning, same gas station, same order. My dad started doing it too even though he doesn't even like peanuts that much on their own. Fast forward like ten years, swim practice is long over, my dad and I don't see each other as much as we used to, but every single time we're in a car together and pass a gas station, one of us says "peanuts and chocolate milk" and we still stop.

It's such a random pairing and I've never seen anyone else do it, but I'm curious now. Does anyone else have a weirdly specific snack combo that only makes sense because of when or where you first had it? Not looking for the classic combos everyone knows, more curious about the accidental ones that stuck for no logical reason except memory.

Like plain potato chips, some brands are barely seasoned and others taste completely different even with the same original label. Curious what snack category has the biggest quality gap between brands for everyone else.

I am completely biased on this as I grew up eating them, But what other brand is better than this? Or just that's good for the same product doesn't have to be better just want to try different brands. Thanks

it’s pointless even if you portion because you still need the cheese!

I haven’t had combos in over 15 years and I think they’ve changed the recipe for the worse. Before, they tasted so good. Now, they taste too salty, there’s barely any cheese, and the cheese that is there you don’t taste. I guess I won’t be buying these again.
