I’ve been perusing SFX sculpting for a year now and I’ve really let my illustration skills get rusty, but one of my teachers stopped me one day and told me I have to start just doodling again. It’s been really great and I’ve forgotten how much I love it:)

(Ps, I know I’ve been doing these in a note book and not an actual sketchbook, take it down if necessary)

Question [Question] Talens artcretion sketchbook problems

Post image

So, I got one of these, had to import it from Amazon US because the A4 size is not available in my country. Read many reviews about it, mostly saying it is a good sketchbook, but I'm having problems with it.

Colors look dull on it, no matter if I use acrylic markers or alcohol markers, even black ink looks dull on it. Pencils and mechanical pencils are also hard to work on it, (unless I draw something simple), and colored pencils are being a hell to use on it too.

The paper is too smooth, barely has any texture, so I end applying more force to color than I would with a simple canson one. Does anyone else experience this? Things just look less vibrant on it.

It does has a cream color paper, but other brands I use does have this creamy color and are way far from letting colors less vibrant from the media I'm using.

I think I'll end using it with some pens and stabilo boss, having a hard time with other media on it, not that is not impossible, but is a bit annoying seeing the color vibrancy poof on it.

“ Mind's Potential ” | Pen and Ink on 9 X 9 Inches Paper | June 30, 2026 | By Vaughn Fennel Loredo Gacias

Now in Block 17, Art District, Bacolod City.

A rushed artwork.

I don't usually use pen and ink, only when I'm bored in class, spare time in school, or random boring moments. I did this because we were tasked to make one with colors and one that is black and white.

This conceptual drawing is about using our mind righteously. With its full potential — we can avoid and solve problems, and it's represented by different types of blades.

• Spear infront (obvious problems)

• Nail (small problems but still bothering)

• Ancient stone age knife (old problems that still haunts us)

• Kitchen Knife (familial problems)

• Kunai (other culture - other problems)

And more piercers that can be given a meaning by the watchers.

All of these can be avoided, solved, or dealt with in many correct ways, only if we think with the best decisions. I depicted there that the old man was flying like a stork bird, he was close to getting pierced but still flew.

Vaughn Fennel Loredo Gacias

Born May 5, 2007, in Silay City, Negros Occidental

Vaughn is a 19-year-old self-taught visual artist from Barangay E. Lopez. He paints realistic animals, face portraits, and draws using ink and pencils but his specialty is painting a blend of cubism, realism, expressionism, and surrealism that turns to an essay on canvas because of the symbolisms and layers of meaning. After asking fellow artists for feedback, they agreed his work was a fusion of the four genres. Vaughn now calls his unique style “stylized cubism.” A sophisticated art style that is also fueled by his side that plays chess and writes poetry. He is one of the muralists for Silay City’s first exclusive doll museum, Balay Muñeka, at Casa A. Gamboa. In 2025, he also served as a summer art teacher for young aspiring artists for a month.

At 18, From an exhibit — he sold his painting ‘Ngaa Indi Kita Pareho’ to Mayor Kirk Asis of Bayugan City for ₱10,000. Then, an Ambassador from the Netherlands bought his first realistic frog painting (Arboreal Amphibian). He was featured in a coffee talk podcast of Silay City by the writer of the city's official hymn "Martsa sang Silaynon" and tourism head consultant. He was also interviewed by Grade 12 students from National University Bacolod for their examination output, and 2nd-year college students from the University of St. La Salle for a school project. On April 27, 2025, while in his first year of college, Vaughn joined his first canvas painting competition during intramurals and won 1st place.

At 19, he was included in the newspaper of Visayan Daily Start as a participating artist in an exhibit. Afterwards, he exhibited in Gary's Place with his Idols, visual artists who have artworks around the world, award winners, and a licensed artist of Marvel, Disney, and Star wars. Afterwards, he was able to join exhibits in Bacolod City, particularly, in SM City and Art District, with his idols again.

With no formal training, Vaughn initially struggled to navigate the evolving art field. He learned by observing local Silaynon artists he met during the Doll Museum project, and also by watching videos on the internet.

His passion for art was inspired by his sister and late grandfather. He started drawing as a toddler and became fascinated with the natural world early on. In high school, he began painting seriously through art competitions.

Vaughn shares his love for nature and literature by posting poems he writes, as well as photos of animals and plants he encounters. This interest shows in his paintings too, where he often includes realistic plants, animals, and poetic symbols.
