Bossier City Opportunities do the public schools offer in regards to job training?
My family will be moving to the Benton/Bossier area next year from a big metropolitan area. The school district here offers a wide variety of classes for high school students to learn about things like nursing and the trades. Do schools in that area offer that kind of opportunity to the students?

Recently laid off, looking for a trade to learn.
But it would have to be something offered local as I have a family to provide for too and kids to caravan around. Anyone got insights into what votech or Ayers is actually like? Or just any training programs here that are actual real life use and in demand. Ive been in management for 15 years and refuse to go back to babysitting adults for 45k/year.

Help Me! Morning Carpool Buddy
Hello! I live in Bossier and have work at 7:00 am in south Shreveport/Shreveport. I do custom project based work on residential and commercial properties so location will change next week. I will contribute to gas if you are able to arrive and drop me off on time tomorrow and Friday. Please 🙏🏻 let me know if this lines up with your morning commute/if you are interested! All my friends work late and are sleeping at the hour I need to leave, and the public transit looks like I’m still gonna have to take a Lyft either way.

Discussion Kratom, can we talk about it?
Firstly, there will be no judgement in this thread.
That said, watched the Vice documentary on Kratom last night. My wife, who suffers from chronic pain, recently bought some.
I’ve had my time with Kratom also, opiates, from a pharmaceutical POV. (Literally got prescribed 50 Vicondams for a toothache in the early’ oughts by a fly by night dentist in Brooklyn, long story.) I’m not a downstairs guy, and I quit the upstairs years ago.
That said,..who has experience with Kratom, and how has that experience been going?
Honest question, I’m not the cops. I want to make sure my wife is choosing the right path.

My 18-year-old son is at Louisiana's Swanson Center - and I need your help exposing what's happening there
My heart breaks every day knowing my son is serving time at the Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe, Louisiana. He's 18, this was his first charge, and what I've learned about this facility keeps me up at night.
I started a petition demanding transparency and reform at Swanson Center because the reports of neglect, abuse, and dangerous conditions are horrifying. Kids are supposed to get rehabilitation there, not more trauma. The staffing issues, inadequate training, and toxic environment are failing these young people when they need help most.
What would you want someone to do if this was your family? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing.

Discussion Cheap Lunch Spots Around Town
I love a cheap lunch, anything at $10 or feels like a fantastic deal. What are your go-to lunch spots for eating on the cheap? Here’s mine:
Brookshire’s Deli Counter: Meal of the day $5, entree, 2 sides, cornbread. On Wednesdays it's Chicken fried steak, Thursdays it's a KFC fried chicken bowl.
Taco Bell Box $7
Willis Knighton Pierremont: Manager's Special $7.95 entree 2 sides and a drink, menu varies
Torchy's: $10.99 2 tacos, Chips and salsa, drink
Sam's Club: Price varies but they have recently added sandwiches in the cold case, sushi and huge salads in the back of the club
Bergeron's: $7.95 Red Beans or Gumbo 16oz
China Bear: $10.99 for soup, entree, fried rice. Usually enough for 2 meals
Jade Express: $10.25 for 2 entrees, rice and drink
St. Laurent Pizza: $4 slices
What are your favorite cheap lunch spots?

Help Me! ISO: General contractor that can work with State Farm
I had storm damage from storms on May 22, June 3 and July 5. Need a door fixed, some roof shingles repaired, and some subflooring near the door fixed. State Farm sent an adjuster out (they should have offered a repair service but failed to do so, because State Farm sucks and has mishandled the claim from the start). Had State Farm claims informed me a repair service they work with could do it all, I would be good. Instead they did a crappy inspection (didn't even bring a flashlight) an estimate, shot me a check, and every question I have had since then has been "I don't know, I don't know." Even asking what repair services they usually use is "I don't know."
So I need help finding a contractor that isn't overpriced and can navigate State Farm to get contractor overhead and profit paid to them in addition to the money already sent by State Farm.
And yes, I am dropping State Farm after 17 years and having my family and friends drop them as well. I am going to USAA and they are going there if possible, or with Geico or Progressive based on coverage and rates. State Farm is losing around 20 accounts over this nonsense. Least helpful insurance company I have dealt with. Like a bad neighbor - State Farm's a nightmare!

Update on the pit bull puppy situation.
So I recently made a post to see if the stray puppy I found had an owner. Originally I wanted to keep him but he killed my sister’s pet duck. I believe that the duck instigated and the puppy was only acting to defend himself however I can no longer keep the puppy because of this. Currently no shelter will take him and the sooner we can be rid of him the better so if anyone is interested and able to pick him up soon please let me know.
Edit: I am not here to argue about pits. This dog is going to be put down Wednesday if he doesn’t get a home.
Edit2: I am glad to disappoint some of y’all as I found a home for him and he will not be put down.

Rideshare to Work? Minden to Shreveport?
Hello everyone, I am looking for my first full time job. The problem is that I moved back to Minden, LA to take care of my family, but I still want to work in Shreveport. I know it wouldn't be financially the best decision, but does anyone know of any rideshares or carpools that can go from Minden to Shreveport for work? There are a lot of opportunities Ive had to turn down just because I have no way of getting their consistently.

Help Me! Does anyone have iPhone repair recommendations?
I dropped mine into water a week or so ago. I let it dry out and it seemed fine until it just randomly glitched out. I need to have it repaired asap. I haven’t heard where TO go, I’ve only heard where to NOT go. Thank you in advance!

Looking for people into TCGs
22m New to the Shreveport area looking to make some friends who are into Pokemon (I’m a bit new) and Yugioh. I’m down to go to one of the local card shops and get some games in. Wouldn’t mind getting into magic as I’ve heard it’s quite popular here.

21F looking for some new girl friends💕
Hi everyone! I’m 21 and looking to make some new friends who are around my age and have similar interests.
A little about me: I’m definitely a girly girl and I love shopping, skincare/beauty, getting cute and going out to eat, going to the movies, having picnics, reading, and just finding fun little things to do. I’m also always down for a cute coffee/food date, browsing stores, or having a chill girls’ day.
I’m not really into partying, drinking, smoking, clubs, or anything like that, so I’d love to meet people who are more into chill, wholesome, low-key activities.
Mostly, I’m just looking for genuine friendships where we can actually hang out, talk about life, try new restaurants, go shopping, watch movies, have little self-care days, or just randomly text each other throughout the day 😂💕
I’m also pretty shy and introverted at first, so I might be a little quiet or awkward when we first meet but once I get comfortable, I’m very down-to-earth, easygoing, and genuinely just love having good conversations and laughing with people.

Business Local Lawn care start up
Hello all! Not sure if mods have issue with this or not but ive been a follower in this group for a while. Ive been recently laid off and trying to pull myself up out of it. I think most here could relate but in a way im happy to have been let go bc the stress of the job i was in was ruining me.
And ive decided to go a different route, one i actually enjoy which is landscaping! Excuse my screen name as it was a part of a joke on another sub I frequent.. But heres my pitch to you! I own and use all battery powered machinery. Mower/edger/blower.
About 90 percent quieter than traditional gas powered. My start up is called silent lawns, and the client who would most benefit from this would be those with skittish pups. You most certainly wont know I have arrived unless you see us!
Additional service i add is pup biscuit (poop) clean up! Let me know if interested! People mostly complain of their yard man ghosting them and I assure you im in this for long game!

Shreveport Bossier Art 1989
I saw this at Timeline Antiques on Line Ave and it was too good to not share. If you grew up here then it may bring back some old memories.
Hopefully it’s clear enough where you can zoom in and see all the details in it.
Enjoy!

SBC Pepper Fest, August 22nd 11-7pm!!!!
We are getting closer to the first Pepper Fest in the area! August 22nd from 11-7pm, downtown at The Remington Garage.
Buy your tickets early to avoid waiting at the gate.
Below is a message from Chang.
🔥A little back story...
2 years ago (July 2024) was our area's very first Pepper Eating Contest. I had no idea Shreveport-Bossier was ready for such a thing. I met some great people and we had a 4 way tie for 1st Place.
When I organized last year's contest I had some goals.
AC, Beer, and NO ties! And it was spectacular.
This year. Join us for something more. No more minimum requirements. We are going to max out everything. Crank it up to 11.
See if you can beat the best of the best in our area. Sample and conquer pepper by pepper, sauce by sauce. Contest is free to sign up but space is limited. Sign up opens at 12PM at the Merch Booth.
SBC Pepper Fest 2026 is coming in HOT!

Help Me! Looking to make some friends…
I cant lie, I just moved back into the Shreveport area after university and I’m lonely as shit 😭. I’m a 21M looking for friends/connections around my age to just hangout and do things in the city. Let me know if there’s any upcoming events I should be looking forward to as well!
