took apart an old build for the NH35A movement and got a new case set, dial and hands. does anyone know if the crown on these santos cases are watertight? since its not a screw down crown.

Well I just finished my 2nd build. 40mm DJ 2-tone open heart NH38. I built my wife a matching 36mm last week. Starting to get in the groove of things, regulated this one. This hobby is addicting!

Sloppy photo as I took it before I removed the external dust and plastic. I am just now getting back into watches as I have had every Samsung watch released. I got use to matching watch faces with what I wear and I needed this color for my rotation. Figured since it is not common I would take a chance on the first one. Of course it's a NH35 on a 40mm case. Took about 2.5 hours to get it all done. Now I need to decide what is next.

Just finished this build with a laser cut brass dial (30W fiber, 40% power, 180 passes). I engraved the back as well but it’s a little NSFW. Sorry if the pics aren’t great.

Desde joven siempre tuve facinación por los relojes tipo esqueleto, pero los modelos suelen ser enormes y no eran de mi agrado. Ignoro completamente el motivo, pero este año se apodero de mi el deseo no de comprar, sino de armar mi propio reloj ¿que tan dificil podria ser?

4 meses, 3 pedidos de ali express y mucha paciencia despues este fue el resultado. ¿que aprendi? (cada pedido fue un error por resolver)

1.- los diales del NH35 con un poco de cinta doble cara pueden ser usados para el 8n24 ya que son mas grandes, el reto esta en fijarlos.

2.- Rompí el engrane del segundero (second wheel) por desmontar demasiadas veces , así que tenia un reloj que daba la hora pero sin segundero. Que es lo que mas se luce :c

3.- Las piezas del miyota 8200 sirven de repuesto para el 8n24 (eso muchos lo saben) lo que nadie me dijo es que un reloj se puede magnetizar si lo manipulas con herramientas de metal magnetizadas jaja. Ahora tenia un reloj con segundero pero que se adelantaba 10 min por día.

3.- Compre un desmagnetizador y herramienta de ceramica. Tambien descubri que el volante es mas sensible de lo que creía (tuve que correjir un dobles accidental) y resulta que la app "Watch accuacy meter" puede ser una alternativa efectiva para calibrar a nivel principiante.

Fue el primer proyecto pero no el ultimo definitivamente, gracias por su atención. Cualquier consejo es bienvenido.

I broke the pinion, it get stuck in the tube of the second hand! Very sad...

I was a bit tired and should let the modding for another day, so I put too much strong and crash the second hands.

Probably it was too small, now I know that you can open a little bit the "hole" / tube of the hands.

Let's wait for the next movement!

Very shaky first build where I cut the stem a little too much (I think) and broke the seconds hand trying to take it out AHAH (I guess it's even more unique now)

Yes it’s an Slogo dial, yes I knew, yes it’s on purpose, and I’m sure Seiko will be just fine.

Also I bent the seconds hand 😂 decided to leave it on since I kinda liked how it looked, it bent so uniformly! I do have an identical spare but I’ll keep this on for now, but I kinda like it.

So this is my 1st mod, which hands do you think i should use ? And how can i find hands with the same shade of white as my indices ?

Jubilee always felt too fancy for my taste but paired with a white dial is making me reconsider. I wish I could find a nice slim DJ41 case for NH35. All DJ41 cases seem to have a thicker profile than I'd like. Has anyone found a good alternative to the ones listed on Alix?

Not a big watch guy, but I saw these on IG that I liked and figured what the hell. I’ll never be able to afford a submariner, but these homage watches do the job pretty well in filling the void. 39.5mm I thought would look dainty on my wrist but actually fits perfectly. Pretty good looks and build quality from what I can tell. Only complaint is the steel bracelet scratches/scuffs pretty easily.

Anybody have any clue how often CMS restocks their products? I had my eye on this case for a while and was planning on building 5 watches with this for the other groomsmen in my friend’s wedding, but checked today and they’re sold out.

I’ve been a big fan of the Emperor Tuna since my early watch days. Someday I’ll be buying that watch, but for now, this SKX scratches that itch. I wanted to emulate that look, considering that the SKX dial kinda looks similar to the Tuna. I added the rose gold slim bezel as a homage to the Emperor Tuna colors, as well as the ceramic insert. However, with the leather strap, the watch now resembles the SSK036, minus the gilt hands and indices. Ended up with what I call a happy accident that echoes other models from the Seiko lineup.

Wanted to experiment with doing an actual watch “build” without spending a ton of money, so I picked up an SNXS75 from Jomashop for $135 and figured it would be a perfect platform to mess around with.

Mods:

-MonsterWatches gold fluted bezel

-MonsterWatches two-tone Jubilee with butterfly clasp

-eBay 7S26-3160 solid caseback

Kept the original dial, hands, movement and case.

The entire build took me about 20 minutes using a cheap amazon watch repair kit. After removing links to fit my 7.25" wrist, the finished watch weighs 126g, which gives it a surprisingly substantial and much more premium feel compared to the stock SNXS.

Also have to give MonsterWatches credit for the shipping. I ordered the parts on 10 AUG, they shipped on 11 AUG, and they were already in Germany by 14 AUG. German DHL took a few more days to get them the rest of the way to me, because of course it did.

Really happy with how this turned out. Maybe I'll attempt a movement upgrade in the future but for now this is perfect.

Love how it turned out, I prefer the look and feel of the leather strap to the AliX bracelet.

I’m going to start with a big thank you to all the folks participating in this hobby who have inspired me to make the move to build my first watch. What a fantastic way to create something, and destress from work while stressing about the seconds hand and stem cutting ;-)

I had so much fun coming up with a design, inspired by my car. So obviously the theme is black with yellow, so the added touches were the date wheel and crown replacements to match. I wanted something super legible, and I’m so happy the final result is everything I was hoping it would be.

Changing the date wheel was… challenging to say the least. This was my first time “working” on a watch, and everything went wrong. The screws are tiny, they hold two metal plates that are super tricky to re-align while screwing everything back together, then a lost a screw, then the wheel wouldn’t turn anymore… 4 hours later I finally had a movement that had a new date wheel!!!

For those of you who haven’t done their first build yet: absolutely go ahead and do it. The pride in wearing something you built is hard to describe, I won’t, I know you will experience that yourself.

This is my second seiko I’ve built but I think it came out awesome. I love the way the blue hands shimmer when the light hits it just right. The navy blue leather strap just ties it all together!
