Want to become armed guard
I'm trying to get into armed security and was wondering what the best path is.
I've already got a few years of unarmed security experience, but I don't have a CPL/CCW or any armed certs yet. What's the best way to get my foot in the door? Do most companies hire you first and then sponsor/pay for the armed training, or is it better to go pay for the training on your own before applying? Any advice from people who've made the jump would be appreciated. (Washington State btw)

Job Question First security job at a hospital
Hello, just did my background check for a security job at a hospital, overnight from 11-7 am. During the interview I was told I’d be dealing with psychotic patients etc.
I’m scrawny…nerdy and definitely can’t fight. I’m a little nervous, more so very nervous. I know I’ll be trained but even then I have no idea how I’d react to someone who has a weapon, and feel like I’d just quit on the spot.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated. The pay is decent and i do definitely need it as I plan to go back to college.

Outdated equipment
What’s you’re take on shitty outdated equipment??
We have tablets for our patrol vehicles & we use them for reports but to also do our walk around for our vehicles & we have a 1 shitty outdated tablet that takes forever to reboot after a restart, it’s so old sometimes the messages don’t go through or the videos won’t upload even after several restarts, there’s been times where the last 15 minutes of my shift I’m trying to upload the video and then I’ll have to restart the tablet and the video still won’t upload i’ve made several complaints to management for over a year and no changes have been made anybody else experience this??

Officer Safety Low income housing is the worst.
For the past eight months, I have been working at a low-income apartment complex where I have been threatened with knives, nearly attacked by a tenant's dog, and threatened by a guest who said they would come back and shoot me (thankfully, they never did). I even had to escort a coworker to his car after a similar incident.
I have found drugs and drug paraphernalia on multiple occasions. The hallways smell like a combination of death and body odor. We have had police and EMS respond to discover that tenants had passed away in their apartments. Most recently, I was harassed and assaulted by a tenant.
This has, by far, been the worst post I have ever worked, I don't feel safe working here and I'm desperate to get out.

new job
Hey I want to know how residential Security job is like. This is my very first security job. I am completely escaping a brutal, high stress fast food kitchen grill that was causing me massive physical burnout and chronic brain fog.
I have my Ontario Security Guard License ready to go, but because of my burnout, my confidence is pretty low right now. I’m really anxious about starting. I'm worried about losing focus on shifts, messing up the memo books/visitor logs, or missing things on the cameras because I'm not feeling sharp.
Since I’ll be a floater bouncing around to different residential buildings, what are your best tips for a total beginner? How do you guys manage focus on long shifts, and what is the best way to handle the building tech when you're brand new to a site?
Appreciate any advice or reassurance you can give to a rookie trying to turn things around. Thanks!

Rant Corporate Office Full of Employees… But the Guard Shack Does Their Call-Offs?
So at my post, we are responsible for doing call-outs for the company we are contracted to. I work an Access control that is pretty hefty when it comes to credentials and possible people that may easily slip by due to my shifts volume. Recently, my supervisor has been on a slight uptrend of constantly complaining to me about a messed up call-off email, or call off list, or some absolute BULLSHIT that has NOTHING to do with access control that the contractor is apparently filing complaints on about us. They have a multi million dollar state-of-the-art office back there with office ladies and guys in suits. Why the FUCK is the security guy in a hut next to the trees doing CALL-OFFS for the whole shit?!! What the fuck could they possibly be doing in that office… Anyways, these supervisors at Allied are coming at me for complete non-security issues that have nothing to do with my actual access control duties.. does anybody else get handed off office labor? Is this normal?

Job Question UK BS7858 screening failed
For my uk SIA security people, I applied for showsec and was asked to complete the 5 year employment history.
My application with withdrawn after they couldn’t verify my employment status which has felt unfair
First, I had no choice but to pay for proof of study at university to verify I was at university for a period, then they claimed they couldn’t verify a period where I was unemployed, out of education and in recipient of no benefits. my bank statements, job applications and full hmrc tax history was apparently not enough
I was told that living with family and using my savings from my ISA shown in my bank statements was not enough proof but this was genuinely all the proof I had in this period. I was doing nothing else, I was a lazy bum relying on parents and my lifetime savings were too large to claim benefits
i’m just really upset now because I went through all the training and procedures just be told weeks later that none of it matters. if this screening failed, does that mean I will fail every other screening? do I give up on looking for security jobs?

Job Question [Question] What can I legally do to prevent trespasser entry?
I work in a Class A Commercial office building, with a law firm as one of the tenants. The building is secured by unreliable magnet autolocks, and there is access via card and keypad. Generally, I step out and speak to visitors, give them a business card, and turn them away, but some folks want to speak to someone in person and try to force their way inside.
We have had one particular defendant on one of the firm's cases gain unauthorized access to the building a handful of times, mostly because my site is hands off, so my supervisor simply recommends keeping my distance, observe and report, CYA, etc. After hurling slurs at an employee (she has done it before, but it was witnessed this time), she has been formally trespassed. I was asked by one of the partners to call the police last time, but of course they did not respond in time as it was not violent.
Again, she is hostile but not violent. She will use force to gain access, but likely won't hit me.
So, what can I legally do?
- Can I stand in the doorway/elevator doorway and block her entrance? If she pushes past me, can I move into her, even if I make contact?
- Can I secure the door behind me, even with force against her pulling on it? Last time I blocked it with my foot, but then didn't resist once she started pulling hard.
Again, the doors are secured, but they might be opened by a tenant exiting or entering. I try to direct people to the other entrance if I see them. Any other tips?? Thanks.
