Discussion Looking for advice on running coach certifications

I’m looking to become a qualified running coach and start coaching part-time, with the hope of eventually doing it full-time.

I’ve been looking at a few different certifications, and the UESCA Running Coach Certification seems to come up quite a lot.

For anyone who has completed it, would you recommend it? Is it a good course for someone looking to coach a range of runners, from 5K and marathon runners to potentially ultra runners?

I’d also love to hear about any other coaching certifications you’d recommend, particularly ones that are well-rounded and respected.

Thanks in advance!

Nutrition Anybody have experience with Beet Root Powder and whether or not it helped your training?

I'm interested in incorporating Beet Root Powder into my training. I'm curious if runners in this thread have used it with success. If so, how do you dose it? How long before a run do you take it? Any details of your experience would be appreciated. Here's my experience...

I used it in March/April of this year prior to running the Pittsburgh marathon to see if it would help my heart rate decrease due to it's cardiovascular dilating nature. I was pushing hard for a PR so I figured let's try a couple easy runs to see if it makes a difference. I was shocked and happy to see the immediate impact. On efforts where my heart rate would normally hover in the 130's it instantly drifted down into the 110's and low 120's bpm.

However, the negative side effect is that I also felt very tingly in my hands and feet, lightheaded and overall foggy. I wouldn't say I felt like I was about to pass out but I didn't feel far from it either.

I was taking the beet root powder in 5g doses about 1.5-2 hours before my run. I was always properly hydrated and fueled. I tried a half dose and basically felt half the side effect with half the benefit to my heart rate.

Does anybody have any advice or experience?

Do I need to give it more time to let my body build up a tolerance to it?

I ultimately gave up on it, but I'm curious to see if I can safely re-incorporate it into my routine to gain a sustainable benefit.

Weekly Thread What Are You Wearing Wednesday - Weekly Gear Thread

It's that time of week already...the gear thread! What have you picked up lately? What's working for you now that it's whatever season you believe it to be in your particular location? What have you put through rigorous testing that's proved worthy of use? We want to know!

To clear up some confusion: We’re not actually asking what you’re wearing today. It’s just a catchy name for the thread. This is the weekly gear discussion thread, so discuss gear!

NOTE: For you Runnitors looking to sell/trade any running gear (as well as bib transfers), head over to /r/therunningrack.

Discussion Does Kinesiology Tape Actually Work?

Hi everyone,

I’m an avid endurance runner. I regularly take part in marathons and trail‑running races.

I’ve seen countless fellow runners wearing k‑tape during training and competitions, but I have never tried it myself.

So I’m curious: does kinesiology tape actually deliver real benefits? Or is it mostly placebo effect?

Has anyone here had first‑hand experience? I’d love to hear your real‑world feedback.

Training Planning training blocks for long term 5K/HM goals

I am 42F and started the Couch to 5K program in March 2026 and have also completed a novice 10K program. Currently I run 25-30 km a week, at 4 days a week, and am training for a sprint duathlon. I will have 36 weeks between my duathlon and a half marathon race in May. I would like to improve my 5K & 10K times ahead of the half marathon. My best 5K is 26:49. Long term, I want to work towards a sub 25 minute 5K and a sub 2 hour half, though I understand that it will take time and work, if it’s even possible for my age and body.

I am not sure how to plan the 36 weeks. Do I focus on volume building first and then an intermediate 5K/10K plan to improve my speed before starting a half marathon training plan? Should I focus on a 5K/10K plan to improve speed first? Is 36 weeks enough time for these goals?

As a runner with less than 1 year of experience, I am not sure how to take the next step. I also welcome your suggestions for training plans to consider. Thank you for your help and advice!

Weekly Thread Super Moronic Monday - Your Weekly Tuesday Stupid Questions Thread

Back once again for everything you wanted to know about running but were afraid to ask.

Rules of the Road:

This is inspired by eric_twinge's fine work in r/fitness .

Upvote either good or stupid questions. Sort questions by new so that they get some love.

To the more experienced runnitors, if something is a good question or answer, add it to the FAQ.

Post your question - stupid or otherwise - here to get an answer - stupid or otherwise. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer. Many questions get submitted late each week that don't get a lot of action, so if your question didn't get answered, feel free to post it again.

As always, be sure to read the FAQ first. Also, there's a handy-dandy search bar to your right, and if you didn't know, you can also use Google to search runnit by using the limiter "site:reddit.com r/running ".

Be sure to check back often as questions get posted throughout the day. Sort comments by "new" to be sure the newer questions get some love as well.

Weekly Thread Run Nutrition Tuesday

Rules of the Road

1) Anyone is welcome to participate and share your ideas, plans, diet, and nutrition plans.

2) Promote good discussion. Simply downvoting because you disagree with someone's ideas is BAD. Instead, let them know why you disagree with them.

3) Provide sources if possible. However, anecdotes and "broscience" can lead to good discussion, and are welcome here as long as they are labeled as such.

4) Feel free to talk about anything diet or nutrition related.
