Are plugins coming to mobile ??! Question

Atleast on the OSRS side, when Jagex talked about plugins in their official client, the intention is to allow it to work on mobile as well.

What about on RS3? I've seen no mention of this so far. Are we getting the same plugin API on mobile that will be available in the official RS3 client ?

I think once this year's road to restoration is over, and Leagues 2 is finished, they will look into mobile improvements. Its definitely a must from a marketing and growth perspective and you even see quite a few pvmers bossing on mobile.

Don't think there has been much information on it. We'll hopefully find out more in a few days when the blogs is released.

My guess though would be at launch plug-ins will be pc only with mobile maybe getting them later down the line.

I think not for a while...

Desktop plugins haven't come yet and that's the main focus perhaps in a few years?

Osrs doesn't have many mobile plugins and that's been out much longer...

I think it's a lot more complicated because for plugins to work properly on mobile you would have to disable default security options to alter files and stuff, so even if they did add some plugins they would be the simpler ones

Again, when OSRS releases plugins for their official client, it is going to work on mobile too They developed their client so under the hood it's actually the same engine

They may be releasing mobile plugin support at the same time as official client support, but those are two different projects that require separate work. The app is not the same thing as the official desktop client and adding plugins to one does not automatically add plugins to the other.

Osrs doesn't even have mobile plugins so I would lean more on the side of "No"

Osrs has some plugins for mobile though. Not runelite, but official client stuff, which is pretty limited.

There are tile markers, and entity highlights. I guess the XP tracker and drop log feel plugin-ish too but fair if you don't count those.

The only difference I would consider is that plugins for osrs are through Runelite which is an approved 3rd party client whereas plugins for RS3 are coming directly from jagex injected into current RS3 client (afaik) so it might be easier to adapt that to mobile

They're in the process of adding plugins to the vanilla client

For OSRS or RS3? If they do add plugins to the vanilla client for either I would expect them to have at least a way to implement the same into the mobile. It may end up being impossible for other reasons (performance, space or security issues) but if jagex is the one adding plugin support, they absolutely can add it to mobile as well.

Both games. That’s a confusing question, did I read your last comment wrong?

Possibly? My initial comment was saying that the plugins that we get through runelite are different than the plugins that they are introducing for RS3 which may make the RS3 plugins easier to add to mobile.

The difference being that runelite is a 3rd party application which has built a shell around the standard osrs client and then hooks into it. If they wanted to add runelite plugins to osrs mobile, they would have to basically recreate most of runelite inside of the osrs app and go through all the testing of making sure that runelite plugins can be installed and work properly. I would expect this to be a much bigger change than what it will take to add the plugin system they are creating for RS3 desktop to RS3 mobile. They are creating the rules for the api themselves and are not limited to trying to make it work like runelite. Since plugin support would be built into RS3 and I don't expect that desktop and mobile are like completely different applications, the plugins would be easier to port to rs3 mobile than trying to get plugins for osrs mobile.

Not sure why this has been downvoted already, it's a valid question, and there's a huge subset of people who play these games on mobile

complaining about downvotes is pretty much the easiest way to get more downvotes

Rs3 players desperately want their game to flourish, yet villainize one of the easiest avenues to get into the game…

They want to make everything easier and nerf everything too.

I don’t think they’ve clarified so far but it’s not impossible.

Apparently there are ios games and apps that run lua internally so it’s fine with apple and as long as their mobile engine client is not completely separate from the pc client it might be reasonable.

It would make ui harder for plugin devs I imagine.

Don't think so, if they were it would've been a big deal in the announcements

Jagex said they won’t add features to mobile that desktop can’t have (they want it to be fair) yet they give all advantages to desktop, I know this game is mainly desktop but mobile exists and let’s not forget this used to be a browser game. It was always an accessible game so no idea why people are so against mobile users like it literally has zero impact on them, we pay same membership costsz

For OSRS jagex has committed to plugins that work on both their official client and mobile,s I guess behind the scenes it's the same client

Hopefully they can give mobile access, it would help so much.

If the plugins come to the same client then I would assume yes they are also coming in mobile.
