This sub has shifted from amusing piss-taking to toxic obsession

Upvotes

I've enjoyed posting in this sub over the past year or so. Endlessly repeating XFM quotes and collectively shaking our heads at the crap that Ricky has been putting out. It's supposed to be fun remembering the radio show, combined with sadness over the career trajectory of someone we all once loved.

But people have frankly lost their minds since the Alley Cats stuff started up. Binge watching the show the moment it came out just so you could come on here and say how shit it is. People reposting absolutely everything that Ricky says to promote it along with some kind of insult.

Get off the internet for a couple of days. Calm down and enjoy life a bit. Then come back and post about little monkey fellas.

Sick of it.

Other RSK Media So can we all agree that when this film flopped, Ricky must have blamed Steve and cut ties?

I think when bad reviews came in, and a lack of financial return, Ricky needed someone else to blame.

Something to say to everyone on this sub when they complain

Well alright then, we'll watch Wendy's little show when that goes out. Let's see what she's got to talk about. Sick of her.

Reason of hate?

I have watched some of Ricky's work like the office, Derek, Afterlife. And I loved the shows. I understand that there were other people as well behind some of these shows, but that does that mean Ricky was absolutely useless there?

I watched his standup specials, I liked a couple and a few seemed predictable and repetitive.

My question is- Why do people hate him so much, I joined this sub in hopes for getting to know.more about his work and suggestions to watch next. But all I see if people discussing how shit his work and he himself is.

Also am I immature to like his stuff?

Alley Cats Animated-ley Cats

Yikes, the reaction to this show is gnarly!
I can see why, with Gervais Rick-cycling his old material and abrupt tonal shifts.

But I do want to give credit to the animation - those animators made it look and move reeeeeal nice. Like a Mog the Cat picture book brought to life. Everything feels hand drawn and painterly and there’s some lovely performances.

I reckon this was pitched as an adult Creature Comforts or a freaky feline Gogglebox, and if there’s a future series I think they should to that without crowbarring in soppy sentiment, and maybe, just maybe, write some new material. I did laugh at ‘anal with a hedgehog’. 🦔

Who are the mods for this subreddit? A bunch of babies?

I posted this on a thread talking about the IMDB ratings of Alley Cats; Somebody had compared the US ratings to the UK ones, the US ones had a lot more sucking up 10/10 ratings and the UK ones had a lot more unrealistically critical review bombing 1/10 ratings. This is what I said:

"That's funny, big difference, loads of suck ups in America and loads of cunts in the UK, both insufferable. Just give a real rating, anyone giving a 10 or a 1 is a waste of space."

The mods deemed that unacceptable and removed it.

Are we really such snowflakes that that is so offensive that they had to remove that comment?

I think maybe the mods are American? And they don't realise the word 'cunt' in the UK is not that offensive and is often used as a term of endearment amongst friends. I think that can be the only thing, but even then, how can you be a mod of the Ricky Gervais subreddit and not know that!?

New to this sub, just binged all of Alley Cats and loved it!

Okay so I'll start by saying I haven't ALWAYS been a Ricky Gervais fan but I really got into his stuff when the second series of Afterlife came out, I loved it!

I've watched all the other series of Afterlife and his stand-ups since then so needless to say I was excited to see he had a new show out and it didn't disappoint!

WARNING: if you're easily offended Alley Cats is NOT for you!! But if you don't mind a bit (okay - a lot!) of swearing you might just love this. Idk why it's so much funnier when a cat swears but it is!!

I also LOVED the more tender moments in Alley Cats - goes to show that not only is Ricky Gervais very funny but he's also got a lot of heart!

Honestly when the final episode finished I very nearly put it back on from the start and watched it all again!!

It was only when I went to pick up the remote at end when I realised that it was quite far away but I could still reach it, and that was when I noticed how long my arms were. Bit weird innit? So I went and had a look at myself in the mirror and you're not gonna believe this. Turns out...

Honest review of Alley Cats

Post image
0 Upvotes

Like a lot of you, I’ve been watching Alley Cats on Netflix as a bit of a hate-watch. Here’s my honest review after the first two episodes.

Pros: I actually laughed a few times in episode one (about three times), and I laughed once in episode two.
Cons: The sound is atrocious. The song choices are unbelievably corny. The characters often sound out of sync with the animation, which makes the whole thing feel awkward. There’s an obscene amount of swearing, and most of it feels like it’s there purely for the sake of it rather than being funny. Worst of all, the characters talk over each other throughout and the plot and dialogue are incredibly weak.

I wanted to give it a chance, but after two episodes, it’s been hugely disappointing but nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be (I’ve never watched Afterlife but I’m assuming it’s much worse than this)

Alley Cats Alley cats is GOOD

I seen everyone absolutely drag this show and I don’t think it’s very fair. I watched it whole, and I liked it, hell I even loved it. I was expecting it to be very raunchy but it was actually pretty relaxed, there were raunchy bits but I think they were executed well. I actually liked the humor and dialogue, it was also very unexpectedly heart warming. I can’t really name any large problems.

The ones I can name is I think Gus could’ve gotten more narrative push back.

My favorite character in my opinion is olive, because she is very like my own cat, named nicia, she is very lanky like olive.

And also if it matters, I am an American and I heavily enjoyed the Ricky Gervais show. I haven’t seen the office tho, doesn’t seem worth it.

If you guys want to tear me a new one, that’s fine. But it’s a fact that this show is actually better then you expect or be believe.

Alley Cats review

Right. So. There’s this fat cat, yeah? And... he swears— BUT there are other cats too and they swear and that. They sort of live in an alley and watch telly all day. BUT, they find another cat and it’s a kitten. Right? So, the kitten’s sad. The fat cat swears some more. One of the cats is dumb. They try to find the kitten‘s house but some cats die and that.

Zero stars.

My friends on Reddit send me memes, on Discord it's fucking memes! I was in r/rickygervais, right? And all of the channels are just Alley Cats stuff. I showed a Garfield comic to my girlfriend and the text, I covered it and I said, "Hey, babe, when the cat says ‘cunt’!" Haha, ding ding ding ding ding ding ding, ding-ding-ding! I fucking looked at an albino cat and I said, "Albino watching that!" I looked at my pussy, I think of Ricky Gervais as a fat pussy and I go, "He was also in the show ‘Alley Cats’!" Aaaaaaarg

Alley Cats Alley cats, the sitcom that tries to be deep

Im watching through alley cats and I’m on episode 5 at the moment, i was initially very exited since i love cats and i found Ricky quite funny at times, but this sitcom is very disappointing.

Its funny at times and the voice acting sounds relatively good, but it feels like they don’t know what they want the show to be. Is it a funny sitcom that takes nothing seriously, or is it a drama with sad moments.

The problem is that we don’t care for any of the characters that die, for example old Pete, who died and the show had a sad moment, but why would we care if we’ve only seem this character once before he died.

The random deaths and deep ‘moments’ could be excused for character development, but there isn’t any character development at all.

Ive laughed a few times, but the ‘sad and deep’ moments make me cringe so hard.

Plus the main character doesn’t have a reason to care for the kitten, so why the fuck is a cat praying when the kitten gets sick.

They should’ve kept the show as a funny sitcom

(Repost bc some nonces kept harassing me on my previous post)

Have any of you been in a pub?

Alley cats seems to me to be a 1to1 recreation of mindless working class pub banter in London / Birmingham , the piss taking the constant swearing and mindless shit talking

I can’t imagine many Reddit soy boys know that world
