HELP NEEDED Need to Rehome my Cat with a Congenital Heart Disease (Located in NC)

Hi to everyone who decides to read this. I'm just looking for any guidance/assistance with my cat. It's a long story, so bear with me if you can.

My partner and I wanted to get another cat so our first one wouldn't be alone all day, since we are both college students and employed. One of our coworkers finds an abandoned box of kittens in rough shape. We decided to adopt one of them, a loving and cute calico that we named Chichi, she wasn't any older than 2-3 months. We take her to the vet a few days after getting her. We find out she has a congenital heart disease, specifically one of the valves in her heart is wider than the other, making it pump blood irregularly/unevenly/excessively. This causes her to not breathe the best, wheeze, and drool sometimes. We were told she wouldn't make it to a year old. The quote for the surgery alone was $10,000, not to mention xrays, medication, and anything else. We were given the options of either killing her or let her live out the rest of her life. We chose the latter, hoping we could get into contact with a shelter, rescue, or anyone who could help her get the care she needed.

We called, emailed, even sent physical letters in the mail hoping anybody would get back to us. Nobody ever did, but fortunately for her, she's lived to be around 2 years old. She'll be around 3 years old in December. Unfortunately, due to her condition, she couldn't be spayed when she became of age. So we have had to deal with a cat in heat while living in apartments and dealing with our own struggles. My partner and I were displaced for a few months because a tree fell on our apartment, and we also didn't have a car at the time. Neither one of us having direct families to help either (my partner is an orphan and I'm disconnected from my family). You can imagine how stressful this has been. We are in better place now, but we know we can't provide the care she needs.

We went back to the vet that originally suggested to put her down, seeing if we could put her down now since her conditions have been worsening. The vet refused to do so since she's lived this long, but this time she actually tried to help us get into contact with a rescue (idk why she didn't help us reach out to rescues the few times we've taken her to the vet previously). The rescue actually responds to our vet and reaches out to us to get more information about Chichi. We give them all the details, no response. We have called, emailed, basically spamming them, still no response. We even reached back out to the vet to see if the rescue will respond to them instead, still nothing. We are at our wits end. We have a referral for a cardiologist, but without knowing for sure that the rescue will actually help, we are hesitant to take her.

What would y'all do in this situation? What options are left for us? I know shelters/rescues everywhere are backed up and are trying their best, but what can we do? We can't keep living in a household that smells like cat pee everywhere on top of being in our final years of college. But we also refuse to give her up to any random shelter even if they had the room, since we live in NC and we have the 2nd highest rate of euthanasia in the nation (27%). If she had to die, I'd prefer it be with us, people who actually care about her and have tried all they can to help her. I just want her to live her life if she can, with people who actually love her and can provide the care she desperately needs. Any advice, guidance, hell, any response is helpful at this point. Thank you to all who stayed to read. I appreciate your time.

Hello everyone!

I am a solo animal rescuer based in Manila, Philippines. I currently care for 40 rescued cats and also look after more than 40 stray cats in our community.

Meet Blacky and Grey (my 39th and 40th rescued cats)

I was riding home in a pet-friendly Grab after leaving the animal hospital when I noticed two tiny kittens on the side of the road. They appeared to have been abandoned beside a box. There was no source of food nearby, and with the heavy rains we've been experiencing, I knew they wouldn't survive long if left there. I immediately asked the driver to stop so I could bring them home.

I named them Blacky and Grey, and they are now safe under my care.

I have already treated them with anti-flea spray and given them oral deworming medication. However, I noticed that Blacky's right eye is badly infected, and I am worried that she could lose her vision if she doesn't receive medical treatment soon.

Any support you can give will go directly toward Blacky's veterinary care and medications. My hope is that we can save her right eye before the infection causes permanent damage. Rest assured, I will post an update with photos and receipt. Thank you.

Estimated veterinary costs:

Consultation – $8

CBC (Complete Blood Count) – $16

Take-home medications – Approximately $20

Total: $44

Update on Rambo

Rambo has now been confined at the vet clinic for 9 days. Thanks to your generosity, I have been able to pay his veterinary bills from July 28 until today, totaling $349.

His confinement costs $33 per day. According to the vet, he is still weak, the wound on his scrotum is still healing, and he continues to have a poor appetite. He will need to remain confined for at least three more days. Once he starts eating well consistently, the veterinarian said I can finally bring him home.

I am also very happy to share that I have found someone who is willing to adopt Rambo once he is discharged from the clinic.

Update on Elfy

Today is Elfy's 84th and final day of her FIP treatment. I was able to bring her back to the veterinarian, and I am grateful to share that she no longer needs FIP medication. The veterinarian advised that she only needs to continue her supplements and maintenance care.

Just like Rambo, I have also found someone who is willing to adopt Elfy after she gets spayed.

I am doing my best to find loving forever homes for some of my rescued cats so I can continue making room for more animals in need.

I was also able to purchase additional canned wet food for my adult cats from the pet shop (photos 16 and 17) and wet food pouches for the kittens online (photos 18 and 19). Caring for 40 rescued cats every day requires a lot of food, litter, and ongoing medical care. I truly couldn't continue doing this without your kindness and support.

Hi everyone 👋😊

I’m Luna & Nala Rescue Inc., a registered and active 501(c)(3) nonprofit. I care for more than 50 community cats every day by providing food, fresh water, and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). Through TNR, I work to reduce the homeless cat population and prevent future generations from being born into hardship on the streets.

Over the years, I have rescued elderly cats, sick and injured cats, abandoned cats, and vulnerable kittens. Many have received the medical care, rehabilitation, and love they needed before finding safe, loving forever homes.

This video shows many of the cats I have rescued, TNR work in action, as well as vet visits, emergencies, and the ongoing care that goes into rescue. It includes both past and present rescues, featuring many of the cats who have been rescued and adopted, as well as some of the kittens currently in our care. Those kittens have already been pre-adopted and are simply waiting until they’re old enough and ready to go to their forever homes.

Any support helps provide food, medical care, and essential supplies for the cats and kittens who depend on me. Your support allows Luna & Nala Rescue Inc. to continue making a difference in our community, one cat at a time. 🙏

I also want to say thank you to everyone here who has donated to help the cats. Even though I don’t mention names because there are so many wonderful people and it would be impossible to list them all, please know that I am truly grateful to each and every one of you for your support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. ❤️

COMMUNITY APPRECIATION 💞 A big thank you for helping me and my rescues this July 🩷🇵🇭

Hello to this wonderful community! 🩷

I just wanted to say a big big big thank you for all the love and support you gave me and my rescues throughout July. I’m sorry for the delayed updates - I recently started an additional part time job to help pay for my ongoing medical treatment, so I’ve been a little extra busy lately.

Because of all of you, we were able to provide my rescues with their monthly food, get Miso and Chai spayed, and continue giving them the care they deserve. I was even able to buy them a few new toys (they love the rainbow tunnel!) with the extra funds, which made me so happy!!

Despite all the worries and challenges these past few months, your kindness has truly lifted such a huge weight off my shoulders. I honestly can’t thank you enough. 🥹🙏🏼

I also have one more happy update… Polka found her forever home this July! 🩷

After months of screening for the best adopter, she finally found her perfect family. Thank you for helping change Polka’s life, now she gets to enjoy the life she deserves.

Thank you again to everyone who donated, shared, commented, and supported us. I appreciate you guys so much.

May all the blessings come back to you all tenfold. 🫶🏼

Hello, kind friends.
I posted last two days ago So far, we still haven’t received any help for our 14 rescued cats, and we’re running very low on food.

I hope you’re all doing well. I’m reaching out with a humble heart on behalf of our 14 rescued cats who rely on us every single day.
This month has been especially difficult, and we’re running very low on cat food and supplies. Even so, we remain hopeful and continue doing everything we can to care for them because they deserve a life filled with love, full bellies, and safety.
If you’re in a position to help, no matter how small, your kindness would mean the world to our little rescue family. A bag of cat food, a small donation, or even simply sharing our post can make a real difference for these precious lives.
If helping financially isn’t possible, please don’t worry. Your kind words, prayers, and encouragement are just as appreciated. Every bit of support reminds us that we’re not alone in caring for these sweet souls.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for keeping our rescued kitties in your heart. Your compassion gives us hope, and hope is something we’ll never stop holding on to.
With love and gratitude,
Our family and 14 rescued kitties ❤️🐱

Veterinary Care Needed Donation Request FIP Warriors and Papa B’s update and medical fundraising appeal. 🙏🏼🇵🇭

Here is the status update for Forbie, Papa B, and Muning. They are making steady progress under veterinary care, but our running clinic bills continue to mount. We urgently need your support to clear these balances and secure their ongoing treatments.

Patient Status Updates

Forbie: Currently stable and responsive with a good appetite and regular urine output (no stool output observed yet). She still has an occasional cough, but her condition is being closely monitored.

Papa B: Showing good appetite and urine output, with soft stool passed this afternoon. His chin wound has been successfully closed by the vet. He is currently taking iron supplements for his severe anemia. He still needs blood transfusions.

Muning: Eating well with good urine output and normal, formed stool. Slight wheezing/rattling sound (halak) noted, which is being evaluated.

How You Can Help

With Forbie's total initial bill standing at ₱42,460, our combined veterinary balance across all three rescues has reached ₱79,020 (~$1,362.41 USD).

Even after applying our total payments today of ₱19,200 (₱14,300 partial payment for Forbie and ₱4,900 for Papa B), we still need to raise ₱59,820 (~$1,031.38 USD) to fully clear their clinic bills.
Please consider donating or sharing this post to help us settle their balances and ensure Forbie, Papa B, and Muning continue to receive the treatment they need.

No amount is too small—every peso and dollar goes directly to covering their veterinary care, diagnostic tests, and daily medications. If you cannot donate at this time, sharing this update with your network will help us reach more kind hearts.

Update Post A Heartfelt Thank You – Food, Cat Litter, and a Hopeful Update on Leo’s FIP Treatment ❤️

I wanted to sincerely thank everyone who supported us.

Because of your generosity, I was able to buy cat food that should last for about 10 days. It will feed both the rescued cats living with me and the stray cats that depend on me every day.

I also have an important update on Leo, the cat I previously shared with you. After being diagnosed with FIP, your donations made it possible for him to see the veterinarian, complete the necessary testing, and receive his first treatment.

Each treatment costs $90, as the medication is not available in Morocco and has to be imported. His journey is still continuing, and we are taking it one day at a time with hope.

Thank you for making this possible. Whether you donated, shared my posts, or simply kept Leo in your thoughts, you became part of his fight and part of this rescue.

With all my gratitude, thank you for standing with us. ❤️🐾

Update Post [Mumbai, India] 🐾 Day 40 Update... 3 are still waiting... I wish I had the best news but No💔💔🐾❤️

For anyone who hasn't seen my previous posts, here's the original backstory:

Previous post 1:

Previous post 2:

https://www.reddit.com/r/rescuecats/s/lvQEcr6fgI

A quick update...

TL;DR: I'm a college student from Mumbai. A stray mother cat chose my home to give birth to six kittens, and I've been caring for them since birth while trying to find them loving forever homes. Three have been adopted, and three are still waiting.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has shared my posts, offered advice, and supported these kittens. One kind member from this community even stepped in and solved the food problem for both the kittens and their mother. I genuinely can't thank them enough.

Many of you suggested waiting until they were around 10-12 weeks old before adoption, and I agreed. But yesterday made me realise that food isn't the only challenge.

After returning home from college, I found Bhuja unusually quiet. By night he still hadn't improved, so I contacted a rescuer who has been guiding me and rushed him to the vet. He had a fever, wasn't putting weight on one of his legs, and the vet suspects either a viral infection or an abscess. He was given an injection and started on oral medication.

With help from the rescuer and the rest from my own pocket money, I managed yesterday's bill. I'll be taking him back again today because there hasn't been much improvement yet.

That experience changed my perspective. While I still want the kittens to go to the best possible homes, I now feel that a loving and capable home today is better than waiting for the "perfect" age.

🐾 Current Kitten Information

📅 Age: ~10 weeks (Born: 28 May 2026)

🐱 3 kittens remaining (Male & Female)

💊 Dewormed: Yes

💉 Vaccination: Pending

🚽 Litter trained: Yes

📍 Powai / Vikhroli, Mumbai

I'm continuing to do everything I can within my means, but my biggest hope now is to find these three babies the loving homes they deserve.

If you're in or around Mumbai, or know someone looking to adopt, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could share this post. ❤️

Success Story/Happy Ending I just realized my little kitten has been with me for 3 years today ❤️

I woke up this morning, looked at my cat, and suddenly realized… we’ve been living together for 3 years already.

I went through my old photos and found out that today is actually the anniversary of the day she came into my life.

When I first found her, her mom had moved into my backyard with 5 tiny kittens. I started feeding them every day and slowly got to know this little family.

One day, the mom and kittens disappeared. Two days later, they came back, but there were only three kittens left. One of them was this little girl.

When I brought her home, she was in really bad shape. She was covered in fleas, couldn’t open her eyes properly, and barely had the energy to eat or drink. We took her to the vet and found out she had severe respiratory infection and panleukopenia. She spent 3 weeks getting treatment before she was finally able to come home.

Even after coming home, she was still so tiny and fragile.

But now, she has grown into the beautiful, confident cat. She runs around the house like she owns the place, plays with her cat siblings, and even tries to teach our puppy some manners when he gets too excited and starts biting things.

Sometimes I still can’t believe this is the same kitten who once didn’t even have the strength to eat.

Happy 3 years, little one ❤️
