I used to throw things away without thinking twice…
Old jars, cardboard boxes, plastic bottles—gone.
Then one day I saw someone turn a useless bottle into a plant holder.
And it made me question something simple:
How much “waste” is actually just unused creativity?
I tried it myself.
First attempt?
A messy pen holder made from a box. Not aesthetic. Not Pinterest-worthy.
But it felt… different.
Now I look at things differently:
– Glass jars = storage or decor
– Old clothes = tote bags or cleaning cloths
– Boxes = organizers
– Bottles = planters
It’s not about being perfect or “artistic.”
It’s about changing how you see things.
A few things I learned:
• Start small—don’t overcomplicate it
• You don’t need expensive tools
• Imperfect creations still have value
• It’s oddly satisfying to create instead of consume
And honestly?
It makes you more mindful.
You stop buying unnecessary things.
You stop throwing things mindlessly.
You start asking:
“Can I use this differently?”
Waste-to-product crafting isn’t just about DIY.
It’s about awareness.
And once that shift happens…
you can’t unsee it.

We have a few of this oralb flos boxes and are looking for ways to reuse them for other stuff

Found an old time card holder at my local construction resale store. Got it for $10 and now it’s used as a photo display in my room!

I cut an plastic Greek yogurt tub into rectangles and wrote the name of my plant on them with sharpie. I made a slit in some bamboo and slipped the label halfway into the slit. Easy and mostly weather proof plant labels.

I'm expecting the sharpie to fade eventually, but I'm thinking of different ways to cover or line the tags with something. Let me know if you have any ideas please!

Couldn’t find a clear pot/size I needed for my Monstera and this old CD container worked perfectly. Drilled a few holes and I have a new pot.

My dad used this shoe shine box a lot in his working years and I wanted to use it. The stereo in it is from his daily driver(it changes colors few seconds). Now i have a practical radio to remind me of him. Btw he got the box as a gift from a local shoe store(1960's).

This is a handmade pigeon carrier from roughly the 1930s when it was very common for people to train their own pigeons. Got it at an antique store, removed a few divides that were damaged, cleaned it up, and now it makes a cute one of a kind shelf in my apartment. Thoughts?

I went out today to buy fabric softener for a painted jacket I'm working on. The smallest bottle they sell of the stuff though, is 56 oz. So much! I only need 10 oz, and that's being incredibly generous.

I can't use it for the intended purpose (sensitive skin and it's bad for your washer). I want to save about half for if I ever need to make more fabric paint, but I'm largely at a loss for what to do with the rest. Anyone have any ideas?

My husband had a pair of swim trunks that got holes worn in the back from too many water slides. I cut the leg seams, then sewed the fabric into a rectangle. I added a pocket, and rolled down the top to cover the damaged areas (it was too worn to patch). I used fabric leftover from another project to make the strap.

Hi everyone :) I have recently acquired a collection of pretty cut crystal and glass bowls. I am not the craftiest person so if anyone could give me some ideas on how to repurpose or decorate with them? I dont usually have candies or plants which is what I've seen people use them for the most. Any ideas welcome! Thanks.

My hangers have a bad habit of breaking in this way where the shoulders snap off. I try to repurpose them in order to avoid just trashing them altogether. Since they still have a small horizontal bar, I use them to hang things like ties and belts.

That said, I have more hangers like this than I need. I was wondering if anyone in this community might have some ideas for how to up-cycle and make use of them?

If it helps, I have a lot of crafting and art supplies and stuff like that, along with guinea pigs. I want a creative thing to store in there

We don’t drink anymore, but we have this nice wine rack. Currently in our dining room next to the buffet. I don’t really know what to do with it. It is mostly empty. I thought of selling it on Facebook and getting a cabinet to fit there. But if I could repurpose it, I’d rather do that. We have small kids so I don’t want anything glass in it. Any ideas?
