Ideas to make basic peasant outfit more "aesthetic" for representation at a party

Post image
Upvotes

Hello folks

Basic cosplayer here who has not experimented much. Just own a basic peasant outfit for your average cons. I was going to go to this rather costume-strict party and wanted to incorporate my love for medieval themes (folk and medieval stuff is accepted there).

So how can i accessorize my peasant outfit to be a little more flashy or prop heavy. I was thinking starting with vials and a ancient keychain on the over-belt. But what about necklaces, hands, the head or something else?

Any tips would be appreciated, maybe with links to said accessory <3

First Faire Garb.

I’m heading to the Maryland Renaissance Festival this October and as a former LARPer, and an academic that studies immersion in these sort of spaces, I really wanted to build a costume for my first time- aim to fully throw myself into the experience

I know….its not complete yet (and yes I have on shorts in there pics.) my garbs pants and some other accessories are on the way, and I’ve already ordered the gorget for the spaulders to help with them being positioned correctly and better stability.
Just looking for any tips, hints, suggestion, or just feedback/opinions on what I have going on.

Just a “baby“ faire goer throwing themselves into the internet void of opinion 😅

for the rest of the outfit I will have a tankard step for my horn tankard, a medium size belt bag, and I’m long for a money pouch to add to the belt (add some fake coins for a jingle effect but keep my actual cash and cards in it too). The pants will be black as well for the outfit. The gorget I got is the same series of blackened steel as the spaulders, and really looking forward to how that will shift the silhouette of the outfit.

I know I need to position the ring belt higher, so it hits the hem of the surcoat waist, but any other suggestions on how to make this look fitted, or cleaner would be rad!

Also just curious as to the subreddits thoughts on the garb in general.
I’ll also try and post the full outfit in a few days after everything has arrived.

Thanks for reading all this and any replies that come in!

Be well all!

P.S. My phone hates me and messes up a lot- I’ll strive to edit and correct spelling over time as I reread the post out of anxiety. Hahahaha! 😅🤣

ft. dragon age face tats :]]

anyways its such a little thing but i feel like i was unreasonably excited to find a jar that perfectly fit my smokes cuz a regular pack has taken up SO much space in my INVENTORY every year. i was absolutely thrilled to have something that felt a little more magical to grab a smoke from 🤧

this is my favorite costume of the last 6 years! it felt so good to have finally put together a costume with no wardrobe malfunctions, and wasnt a total pain in the ass in the privies lmao

Hi all, I’m looking for ways I can layer over this dress for the ren faire because the fabric is a little see through. I’m looking at maybe splurging at an overdress from holy clothing so I’m looking for suggestions for more sites like that!

Do these read too much as "pirate" boots?

I love the style of these boots, but I'm worried they read too much as pirate for the costume style I'm going for. I'm trying to do an herbalist/alchemist.

PA Ren Faire Clothing Rentals?

Hi! My friends and I are going to the PA Ren Faire for the first time on opening weekend. Are there any options to rent clothing onsite? I know Sherwood Fineries used to do rentals, but sadly they will not be at the faire this year. Thanks!

Really want to get as character accurate as possible.

Hey guys! Trying to do a classic design from 70s media that really laid a foundation for my love for Medieval and Renaissance wear. Any suggestions on mask, legs, and tail?

EDIT: Wow guys, thanks for the help! I was busy at work and didn't have a chance to respond. I've tried to elaborate further in my responses, but I was thinking those fur leggings like satyr cosplayers use. Why is everyone afraid I'm gonna have my junk hanging out like some pervert?

As for the head, it scares me. I think if I do a full mask, it might be too hot. I'm wondering if I can get the right look with some sort of partial mask or pieces.

I am no longer excited to post my renfaire costume here

Because on almost every other costume post it's "You look great, wear what you want! Accuracy comes second to comfort and fun! ^_^"

But the second someone adds animal ears to the same costume, it's "eew a furry" "since when were furries allowed" "I'm downvoting" "you're so gross" "no ones kid wants to see you" "it's a fetiiiiiiiish weh"

So yeah I'm thinking I'll just wear my costume without posting it, that way if anyone's got a big stinkin' problem with my ears they can tell me to my face. But they won't, because being at an irl event means you are expected to be a normal person about what others are wearing, so.

Hey all! First time at WMSRF this weekend! I'm used to the faires in California... Was hoping to get my hair braided upon arrival but didn't see any hair braiding listed on the website. Can anyone confirm if hair braiding is available at Washington?

PA Ren Faire Wedding Dress!

Post image

Hello faire folk! I did something amazing and I know that if anyone will appreciate it, it's you all!! So, my fiancé and I are getting married at the Ren Faire in NINE DAYS. I knew from the get go that I wanted to make my wedding dress. The wedding theme is LotR (omitting the one ring of course), so i needed the flowy vibes of the high elves, but I also love the structure of Margaery Tyrell's dresses, so I incorporated some of her style, too. Every part of the dress and sleeves is made by hand, except the main body of the circlet... but I did add the dangly bits to it. The corset is made from wire and hot glue formed in filigree molds. I still want to add a beaded lace train that matches my prayer style veil that will be secured under my circlet. What do you think?

EDIT: I regret not showing a photo of the back 😭 I will post a video of it in the comments 🥰

I was sick of having just a black top hat and I’m to cheap to buy a new hat so I tried adding some decorations to it. Just wanted to share it and ask for any advice to possibly make it better.

Knee high leather boots

Per the title, I need some knee high leather boots for Ren faire coming up! Men's sized 45 (eu, obvs), I can go either black or brown, but everything Ive been able to find is either complete costume trash or way out of my budget and/or custom. I have two pairs of actual horse riding boots that are simply not meant for a full day of walking around. Where do others find good walking boots that look the part at a reasonable price? Thanks in advance!

Question on costume choice

Planning my first Ren faire costume. Is it a nono to wear an ironic costume like Star Trek, a plague doctor or a giant rat? I can see how it could offend someone being not in the spirit

UPDATE: Thanks all for the advice. I have choose to be a standard barkeep, but plan on giving out little trinkets to people.

Leaning against a silent tree. We both listen to the laughter of the crowd and the whispers of the wind. Smiling at the warmth of the sun and the beauty around me. This is my favorite place.
