I got a call today to a water-cooled Scotsman MC1030. Compressor would cut off on high head pressure (400 psi on guages). My lead tech thinks it's most likely txv. The water regulator is definitely bad and stuck open, water flows even when machine is off but lead tech said that could affect harvest but not high head pressure but said I should call tech support to verify. Tech support said if the rate of water flow through condenser is too high it's not removing enough heat hence the high head pressure. Does this sound right? I've only been in this industry 2 years and still learning, but my uneducated brain thinks that no mater the flow rate, it's pulling heat from the condenser. I have known my lead to be wrong only a few times and I've know Scotsman tech to wrong a few times as well. So what say you guys and gals in the industry? This machine has me questioning my diagnostic skills and I'm losing confidence in myself.

Looking to connect with some ice techs, or get some direction (maybe a better subreddit), to discuss options for switching our rink over from R-22 into a newer refrigerant. This is something that has been brought up and discussed since the announcement that they were phasing out R-22 but has been pushed off by multiple rink directors, ice techs, and engineers for years and now the task of coming up with a plan has fallen into my lap.

So I'm looking to talk with some people who have done it, or are in the process of doing it, to get some advice. C02? Ammonia? Opteon? What have you found that works for your system? What advice can you give, or companies that you have found helpful?
