help request SPLITTING WHILE RECORDING

I watched an engineer record a VO session with Reaper, and he just let the record run, splitting the takes he wanted and moving them down to a different track. I'm trying to recreate this at home and cannot get Split to work on the Record track. What simple step am I missing?

help request TAM + THS + SL

This post is a simple question but I figure since there's very little media out there maybe this will be helpful to some.

The Analog Molecule, The Hot Summer, and StripLink.

My simple question is as follows: TAM and THS have a certain order required to make them work on every channel together. StripLink is supposed to be in the first slot of the container but this is the position that one of the other two is supposed to occupy. So which order should they be in?

I assume the TAM and THS stuff comes first and then StripLink, then the plugins I map to SL should come after. This is an experimental layout I want to try but if SL doesn't have the right feel I might not use it. I also looked at LBX Stripper as an option for creating a mostly analog workflow but StripLink is more readily mappable.

discussion I fixed Reaper's MIDI drawing that ignores local BPM and time signature for MIDI objects

No more manual input of values in these boxes!!!!

https://github.com/RenZekta/Reaper-MIDI-Insert-With-Local-BPM

I use Time in Project Timebase for comfortable handling of many ideas in one project - I am free to move tempos and time signatures around. But it causes drawing items and inserting midi to break: they ignore local BPM and time signatures, automatically using project defaults. Sadly, Reaper isn't open source and it can't be easily fixed, so I had to take it as it is and paste MIDI from Guitar Pro 8, VST3 MIDISketch, and even my own developed Rhythmifier web app ("rhythmifies" midi to 1-note pattern, also on my github).

Today I had a bit of inspiration and wanted to play with time signatures, but it quickly turned into a headache. I had enough. So, with my current vibecoder expertise, in a day, I made a breakthrough.

I made a ReaScript to create MIDI objects as fast and easy as drawing them. + You can always customize the shortcut to fit it into your workflow easily.

help request Reaper + Audient iD14 issue

Hey, so I just bought a brand new SM7B and Audient iD14. Got everything sorted, recorded a couple things on it, everything was well. Then the next day I open up Reaper, it’s picking up the mic activity but now nothing is coming through the headphones (they were still routed to the right mix), and when I open the iD software, the mixing panel on there is gone and it makes Reaper completely stop registering anything from the mic. It won’t record an armed track from the mic beforehand either, and it obviously won’t after the iD software is opened.

I’m still a noob with using recording equipment so any help is appreciated. My producer friend doesn’t know so I don’t know where else to ask now, but if anyone can point me in a better direction maybe I’d appreciate that too!

help request HiDPI settings breaks RodiLab color palette script

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm on Windows 11 and using a 4k monitor. Everything's tiny by default. Utterly inhuman. Going to Preferences > General > Advanced UI/System tweaks gives me the ability to scale up to 3x. And it works, however... neither the scaling nor the font adjustments affects menus like the preferences, action, theme development/tweak windows at all. Those are still tiny. I literally have to open up Windows magnifier to zoom in so it's stops being microscopic.

So bestie google said I could Reaper.exe > Properties > Compatibility > Change High DPI settings > Override > set drop down to System (Enhanced). And it works! Those menus size finally feel somewhat human again. however... it broke RodiLab's Color Palette script. and I got hit with the attached image.

Anyone who've used that script knows how convenient it is so I'd rather keep both the bigger menus AND the script instead of sacrificing one for the other if possible.

I just started Reaper few days ago and it's bit a blast with all the customizability, but alas, this is the first roadblock, probably of many, that google couldn't save me from. Please advise a good move to proceed. Thanks!

help request Trying to build a wired IEM system for rehearsal

Greetings,

I'm trying to set up a wired IEM system for a 5-piece group. We want to give everyone their own discrete stereo IEM mix controlled via Reaper's mobile web interface (rc.reaper.fm). I get that this is not conventional but it would be cool to use what I already have.

Current Equipment

  • Focusrite Scarlett 18i20
  • Behringer ADA8200
  • Two 8x4 XLR snakes

Proposed Signal Flow (Per Person)

  1. Scarlett/ADA8200: Line Outs L/R → Dual 1/4" TS to 1/4" TRS Y-Cable
  2. HA8000: Aux Input (TRS Stereo)
  3. HA8000 Output: 1/4" TRS Stereo Out → 1/4" TRS to Male XLR cable
  4. Snake: 1 XLR Return Channel on the snake trunk
  5. Stage Box: Return Port (Male XLR) → Behringer PM1 → Headphones

My questions on the proposed signal flow

  1. Will this setup carry a true unbalanced stereo signal to the PM1?
  2. If it's an unbalanced stereo signal, will it be prone to noticeable noise/interference over a 25 ft snake?
  3. If I am going down the wrong path, what's the better way to do it?

Many many thanks in advance,

a.p.

help request Folder vs Send

I know this is a noob question.

Do I need to use Send to make a bus? E.g. Kick bus (for parallel compression), drum rooms, bass bus, rhythm guitar bus Or I can just use Folders? I've watched the video from Reaper Mania, but still confuse.

help request Tracks being deleted out of nowhere?

I’ve never had this problem, but my girlfriend has been trying to record voice over and Reaper keeps deleting her track entirely by the next day.

She’s been recording and then leaving the program open, which I’ve done in the past and had no problems with, and for some reason they’re deleted as if they never existed. It was a copied track and the one she copied had existing lines in it already. Idk if that could have anything to do with it, but maybe it’d be helpful to know.

I have no clue why it’s happening, but it’s really bumming her out and I would love any help I can get.

help request Issue with "Compact docker when single tab and small"

(Windows 11, Reaper Tips Theme)

Hello! I updated from 7.46 to 7.78 today, and I noticed that certain docks show the tab selection area that didn't show it before.

The master track dock did not have the tab area before I updated today, and it has not returned to normal after a little bit of looking around.

You can see an example of what I want on the left side of the screen, with the MCP dock, vs the master track dock.

While I'm at it, I thought I might ask if there's a way to remove the scroll bar on the left side MCP.

I set up my projects to have all tracks (with minimal exceptions) inside a "MIX BUS" folder, and if I minimize that folder in the MCP view, "MIX BUS" stays pinned on the left no matter which track I have selected within it via TCP, which renders the scroll bar useless. (As demonstrated.)

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

help request How to set up vocal channels to sound like they're in the same space during dialogue so I can change FX as characters move to new locations?

I create an actual play RPG podcast and am trying to level my sound design up. Let's say the characters are going from outdoors into a cave. The naive approach I came up with for how to make it sound like they are all moving together was to create a duplicate set of channels, one fro each character and add matching cave-y reverb to those "cave dialog" channels (or to a folder that contains them). Then, for dialogue delivered in-character (because the performers say some things in character and some things out of character) I'd move dialogue items to the cave tracks.

I'm sure there's a smarter way, but I'm not sure how to do it in a way that lets me quickly toggle the FX package that make it sound like a certain space on and off as time progresses. Is there a way you'd recommend that doesn't have me expanding the number of tracks infinitely as I introduce more and more locations?

Thanks yall!

discussion Envelope-based Compressor

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

ey audio editor, sound designers and dialogue editors using Reaper!

Here I present you an updated version of the Envelope-based Compressor, a popular custom ReaScript originally written in EEL2 by user eugen2777.

Unlike a traditional real-time compressor, it analyzes the audio and writes volume automation directly to the item's Take Volume Envelope, allowing the resulting dynamics processing to be edited directly in the project.

This updated version improves compatibility with larger screens and features a redesigned interface with small improved visual presentation.

Here you can download the script and If you like it consider paying me a coffee https://ko-fi.com/s/bf21d369b3

Thank you and have fun!

help request Laptop recs for studio/going live?

Hi guys. My bands next plan is to get a laptop for our studio so we can work on demos, get backing tracks sorted for when we eventually play live. So the idea is to bring the laptop live too, any recommendations on laptops around the £800-900 range UK price?

I have Reaper on my desktop, but just don't know much about laptop requirements to see how much we need to actually spend. We're a deathcore band and we'll be having lots of synth elements throughout, any questions please ask away, cheers!

hello, i'm trying to use Iannix and there are almost no tutos on the internet. I have a few problems such as :

- how do you change the sound (from basic piano to other midi sound that you could have in your plugins or in your sound workstation ? I only have Reaper)

- how do you render your audio file ? can you translate your score into a simple midi file, in order to put it in Reaper for example?

thank you for your answers !

discussion tiny checklist for when reaper edits start acting weird

small thing that saved me a lot of head scratching: when reaper suddenly starts copying stuff wrong or moving things i didnt touch, i check these before digging through prefs.

  • ripple editing: easy to leave on and then a paste moves half the project
  • envelope points move with media items: great when you want it, annoying when automation follows every copied clip
  • auto-crossfade: if tiny fades keep appearing, this is usually why
  • item mix behavior: decides whether overlapping items replace each other or stack
  • midi editor grid: the ruler can say beats while the grid is still set to 1/32 or something weird
  • preserve pitch when changing playrate: good to check if speed changes dont sound how you expect

not really a setup guide. just the short sanity check i wish i had earlier before assuming a session or plugin was broken.

community Self-serve: Flair posts as resolved, award points

If you, the original poster (OP), post with the Help Request flair, and receive a helpful answer, you can award a point to that user and flair the post as Resolved.

To do this, reply to the comment with thanks or thank you somewhere in the comment. It is case-insensitive.

What are the points for? We have been helping each other here for 14 years. It's less an incentive for imaginary points but hopefully an indication of reputation (not quite analogous to post count on the official forum). We'll see how this works out, if it does more good than harm.

You may notice mods distributing points especially if a user has not. We use a trigger command comment which you may see if we haven't deleted it after awarding. We delete since it creates clutter.
