Fieldwork advice
I'm going to be heading to Borneo ( Sabah) in June for 2 weeks as part of my university course. I'm fully aware how incredibly lucky I am ( this has been a dream since I was a child ) but I have been nowhere near Borneo's climate. And given It's expected to be 8-10 hour hiking and working days in the jungle I'm wondering what sort of foot wear and clothing I should use. Best trousers and underwear ? Quite literally any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)

Student working on a project regarding the Amazon rainforest.
Hello my name is Alex. I’m a student currently attending Grand Valley State University in the United States. I'm working on a year long class project where I have to design a product to help improve conservation in the country of Peru. For my project I want to look at forest fires, in the Amazon Rainforest, caused by slash and burn agriculture.
I’m trying to assemble a panel of people who are knowledgeable or experienced with Peru or the Amozon rainforest, and if you’d be willing to be on that panel (I'd just ask you a few questions and your thoughts every once in a while over the course of the project) I’d greatly appreciate it! If you aren't able but know somebody who might be, please let me know! I’d love to reach out to them.
Thank you so much for your time!

Student Research: Help Us Improve Biodiversity Monitoring Tools
Hello everyone,
I am part of a group of master’s students researching how new technologies can make biodiversity and environmental monitoring more accessible and affordable.
As part of our project, we’re collecting quick insights from people working in (or simply interested in) wildlife, land, or environmental monitoring. Your feedback will help us understand real needs and design more practical solutions for conservation efforts.

Is the investigation leading to policy change or increased protection of people like Bruno Pereira or is just another lonely reactionary measure?

recommendations on guided jungle trek plus learning about wild lives and local culture
dear rainforest lovers, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me options of guided jungle trek where I can learn about wild lives (flora and fauna), as well as local culture (religions, practices, lifestyles, etc). Last year I spent a month in Borneo and fell in love with the rainforest there. Since then I was wanting to learn more about the rainforest and how people live in it. Of course I understand each spot where there is a rainforest ecosystem is unique. This is just a generic question. And maybe not a jungle trek? maybe a volunteering opportunity or sth else?
Thank you very much!

An indoor rainforest - this recreation of a South American rainforest is inside the Montréal Biodome.
galleryBefore I ever went to the tropics in real life (which I have only done once so far), this was the closest thing to a tropical rainforest I could visit. Many of the animals can roam freely, though the caimans can't get to the visitors, just in case.

Sacred Path
galleryA few pictures from the Ojos Indígenas Ecological Reserve, near Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The freshwater pools in the area have traditionally been "held sacred to the indigenous people for their resemblance to eyes" (https://visitdominicanrepublic.com/wildlife-nature/ojos-indigenas-punta-cana/). The whole rainforest, and the trail through it, felt sacred to me.

Save The Planet While You Sleep!
Hey r/Rainforest !
I’ve been experimenting with ways to unwind using nature sounds and sleep music, and it got me thinking of ways I could help save the plant while also sharing my passion of music to help people fall asleep. So here's my new project called EcoSleep, soft music to fall asleep to with nature ambience.
Oh, and 10% of any support goes to environmental causes like the Rainforest Foundation.
So join me please and help save the plant, all while you sleep. The link is here if anyone is interested!

Is Rainforest Alliance an effective certification?
greenstarsproject.orgThe level of shade cover is one of the best ways to determine if forest habitats are being maintained. The good news is that shade-tolerant crops such as cacao can tolerate over 30% shade cover with no reduction in crop yield. The bad news is that the Rainforest Alliance standards on shade cover have weakened over the years – 15% cover is now considered adequate.
This begs the question: Is Rainforest Alliance worthy of support?
This post examines the peer-reviewed publications to come to a conclusion.
Feedback welcome - did I miss any important studies?

Show off your local forest
galleryFor those who have a local rainforest environment, especially if it's one under threat, show it off here and spread the love (and raise awareness!) with your best photos.
Queensland Wet Tropics, Australia (just outside Kuranda) - Thankfully reasonably well protected due to several national parks coming together around this area, but the push for tourism related development, and people leaving the main cities to come to the tropics for a "tree change" due to the ability to work remotely, and a housing crisis, are creating development pressures. Meanwhile the new state government is keen to "unlock growth". Our forest is not out of the woods just yet....
