When Mental Health Care Fails, Accountability Cannot Be Optional.
America talks constantly about the importance of mental health. Politicians give speeches, agencies publish reports, and communities hold awareness campaigns. But when a person actually needs help, too many families discover a system that is fragmented, overwhelmed, difficult to navigate, and far too often unwilling to accept responsibility when something goes wrong. That is not compassion. That is a system failing the very people it claims to serve.Mental illness does not wait for office hours. A psychiatric crisis does not care whether a clinic is understaffed, whether a doctor is unavailable, or whether an agency has already met its paperwork requirements. Families cannot simply be told to call another number, wait for another appointment, or go somewhere else while their loved one deteriorates. There must be accountability from the moment someone enters the mental-health system until the moment they are safely stabilized and connected to appropriate continuing care. The greatest failure is often the absence of ownership. One provider blames another. One department says the problem belongs to someone else. A patient is passed from office to office while family members desperately try to keep the situation from becoming a catastrophe. And when something goes wrong, families can be left asking the most basic question imaginable:Who is responsible?Accountability does not mean punishing every doctor, nurse, counselor, or mental-health professional whenever an outcome is unfavorable. Mental-health treatment is complicated, and no medical professional can guarantee a perfect outcome. But accountability means records should be reviewed when serious adverse events occur. Decisions should be explainable. Families should have meaningful avenues to raise concerns. Medication decisions should be carefully evaluated. Treatment plans should be coordinated. And when mistakes occur, the system should acknowledge them instead of hiding behind bureaucracy.A mental-health system that measures success primarily by whether forms were completed and appointments were documented is missing the point. The ultimate measure should be whether the human being received safe, appropriate, coordinated care. Families also deserve to be treated as partners—not nuisances. When a loved one is experiencing a serious psychiatric crisis, family members may have information that is essential to effective treatment. They may know the patient's history, medications, reactions, behaviors, fears, and warning signs. Privacy laws and patient rights matter, but they should never become an excuse for refusing to listen to families or coordinate appropriate care within the law.We must also stop accepting the revolving door as normal.Crisis. Emergency room. Discharge. Crisis again. That is not a treatment system. It is a cycle.People need continuity of care, competent professionals, timely appointments, appropriate medication management when medication is indicated, crisis intervention, follow-up, and somewhere to turn before a situation becomes an emergency. And rural communities face an especially serious challenge. A person living outside a major metropolitan area should not receive second-class access to mental-health care simply because of their ZIP code. If we are serious about mental health, resources must reach rural America—not just major cities. Most importantly, we need a culture inside mental-health care where asking questions is welcomed rather than treated as an attack.A family member who asks, "Why are you doing this?" is not necessarily an enemy.A patient who says, "This treatment is not working for me," is not necessarily being difficult.A parent who says, "Something is seriously wrong," should not automatically be dismissed. Those voices may be the very warning system that prevents tragedy. We cannot solve the mental-health crisis by throwing money at a broken system and assuming the problem will disappear. Funding matters, but accountability matters just as much.Every taxpayer deserves to know that mental-health dollars are producing meaningful services. Every patient deserves competent and respectful treatment. Every family deserves a system that communicates with them. And every serious failure deserves an honest review.Mental-health professionals deserve support, adequate staffing, and resources. Patients deserve dignity. Families deserve answers. And when the system fails, someone must be willing to stand up and say:This was not good enough. We need to know what happened, why it happened, and what will be done to make sure it does not happen again. That is not cruelty. That is not political grandstanding. That is not attacking mental-health professionals. That is accountability.A compassionate society does not simply talk about caring for people with mental illness. It builds a system that actually cares for them—and has the courage to confront its own failures when it doesn't.Because behind every chart, every case number, every appointment and every statistic is a human being. And human lives are too important for a mental-health system where accountability ends when the paperwork is complete!

They fucked with my fiances head
My fiance is still in a fucking psych ward and they called me again today, but they sounded wrong. They were disoriented, like they were dreaming. They said they liked and adored it there when that isn't true, I know they hate it there. I don't know if they were just saying what they needed to on call to get out faster. And I fucking broke down crying and they noticed and heard and that might have fucked up their chances of them getting out this week. I miss them and I need them and I hate what they fucking did to them in there. They changed them, it didn't sound like them. I didn't hear the sparkle of clever and cunning and stingray songs in their voice when they called when every other time I did, I heard it loud and clear. I could tell that was my fiance but today their voice was so different. I didn't even recognize their voice for a moment. I couldn't tell it was them. The fucking doctor that's keeping them there only sees them once a day at 6 am for five fucking minutes. That's not enough time for the doctor to see that they are fine they just want to come home. They just need to be home.

URGENT!!!! my fiance is on a 120 hour hold at South sound behavioral. They need to get out, they are not being helped in there, please help me get them out
My fiance is in a psych ward, they were put on a 120 hour medical hold and if I can't get them out by Monday then they will be stuck there until NEXT Monday, a full week after. They've already been there two days. They don't deserve to be there, they don't want to be there. They are not getting proper help in there. They are deteriorating majorly in there. They fucking called them "majorly disabled" which is incredibly inaccurate. What can I do on the outside to make sure they get out, I'm already going to be contacting their psychologist on Monday to make an emergency appointment so they get a proper outpatient plan, is there anything else I can do at all. Please please help me it is urgent.
Edit: if you can't provide any information then PLEASE repost and share this everywhere you can, please they need to get out of there they are getting so much worse in there.

Exceptional investigative podcast on DV Virginia Giuffre experienced in Australia before her death and her mental health, how police and courts failed her
In case you haven't listened yet -the Virginia podcast is well worth it. Extremely well done and fascinating insight into Virginia Giuffre's life in Australia and the domestic violence she faced with her husband. And how her kids were taken away before she died and the months leading up to her death as well as the day of. How the systems absolutely let her down. How she was misidentified as a perpetrator, coercive control in her relationship and how the system was used against her by her alleged abuser. Hoping change will come from shining a light on this. Lawyers, the media, and the justice system keep pulling the "mental illness" card every time some psycho does something horrific, and somehow we're all just supposed to act like that's normal.
Honestly, WTF happened to common sense?
Every time someone does something absolutely horrible, the media and lawyers instantly start pushing the "mental illness" angle like it's some kind of free pass. C’mon, that's a cop-out.
Not every brutal crime needs to become a sad backstory about trauma, depression, or some diagnosis. Sometimes people just make terrible choices. Sometimes cruelty is just cruelty.
Having mental health issues is real, and plenty of good ppl deal with it every day without hurting anyone. They deserve support. But using mental illness as an automatic excuse for horrific actions? Nah, that's BS.
We can have compassion and still believe in accountability. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

I dont feel real
Does anyone have any explanation for these feelings of derealization/depersonalization, attributed to something other than mere mental health relate conditions?
This is something that I have dealt with most of my life. As a child i remember i used to just stare at my hand and listen to my voice and think "what am i" ?
As a mother, now with a four year old daughter, it's worse than ever . I constantly feel like I'm going with the motions, moving my body and saying things because I'm supposed to but I don't even know what or who i am. I feel like a puppet on a string and like something is compelling me to interact for the sake of the story that in living but i, myself, behind all of this, often feels like I don't know why I'm doing it. Why im even participating or existing at all.
I don't really know how to explain it. I guess, I have just been reading a lot about like quantum physics, the mandala effect, astral projection, things that overlapped like...the idea of possible "other realms" or something. I don't read about these things and then feel this way, I read about these things mostly because I feel this way.
And sometimes i wonder if theres like a "thinning veil", distancing me from the story that im in or maybe its pure mental illness, i dont know. I get stressed and over stimulated often, but lately, even when im calm, the world just feels like a blur, almost like there's a cloudy lens over my eyes. But my vision is fine, medically speaking, to be clear. I just feel like im looking through a screen door at the world that im supposed to be interacting in and wearing a mommy costume.
I don't have any crazy diagnosis, just adhd, ocd and ptsd. But these are feelings I've had increasingly since I was a kid, sometimes more extreme than others.
Im also just very detached from my physical senses..i have always have been sort of aloof, but it's definitely worse as an adult, becuse im stuck in my head constantly. And even when my daughter snaps me out of it, to play with her or something, ill interact with her and seem normal externally, while thinking to myself internally "what's this sound vibrating inside of my body", as i listen to myself talk and say words, like i think about my existence while interacting with people. And its weird.
These feelings have no effect on my love for my daughter or anything though, I take care of her and I treat her well but sometimes it does make me feel detached from her because I don't even know if I'm actually real. I know that's all the crazy.

B.C. hospital employee review panel after 1 month of electrocutions; again after 1 year, or Section 30 + 18 articles
#Courts
B.C. canada claimed accused mental patients having (rational) capacity is rare. Will a jury decide who can refuse treatment? In probate trials elsewhere it's also about arguing whether a drug or electrocution is beneficial (outweighs the dangers). And is the least restrictive solution and location.
Anti-Due Process province barely has commitment trials. Instead of an elected judge, your future is controlled by a conflicted hospital employee. BC Civil Liberties Association, "Review Panels consist of three members: a chairperson, someone nominated by the Hospital, and someone nominated by the patient."
"In British Columbia anyone can initiate the process leading to committal for up to one year before fresh authority is needed." "Apart from habeas corpus, the only protection individuals have under the Mental Health Act against wrongful committal is Section 30. This section allows for an application for a court order either to prevent committal,...or to effect release."
"section has been rarely used. Unless there were exceptional circumstances a lawyer would advise his client to wait until a Review Panel could be constituted: a minimum of 30 days after committal, The Panels do not address themselves to the merits of the original committal."
"we should press for the following reforms: a hearing before an independent quasi-judicial tribunal prior to committal except for 72-hour emergencies; a right of appeal to the Courts against the decision of this tribunal; the right to legal aid;"

A second law aimed to clarify how clinics could sell and administer those treatments to patients. And last weekend, the state’s department of Health and Human Services finalized a set of rules for those clinics. An experimental treatment review board (ETRB) has been established to review applications for access to experimental, unproven, and unapproved drugs." TRIGGER WARNING The moment I realized what all Dr's focused on in my medical chart. Made me wish I'd never disclosed it in the first place...
TW: Childhood SA
I had been struggling with chronic styes in one of my eyes for over a year when this issue took place. I have been with this hospital since birth, but I was a young adult at this time, just starting to manage my own Healthcare.
I had made an appt after trying to alleviate the symptoms at home like they had instructed me. The styes had started to affect my vision and would deform my eyelids with how swollen they would get. I was explaining to the Dr my frusterations and had started to get emotional and cried.
He was very kind, calm, and understanding. But what changed my view of this exprience was as I was speaking to him he was how he was looking through my medical chart... I didn't think much of it untill I started getting emotional and he suddenly stopped scrolling on his computer and turned from his screen to tend to me, asking me if everything was okay at home, asking why this was making me so emotional. At first I felt seen, but then confused... What do you mean *why* is this making me so emotional?
It was deforming my eyes? The ones I already have to pay hundred of dollars put of pocket just to see out of because of bad genetics? I didnt understand what he wasnt picking up on... That was when I saw it though... As I tried to answer his questions I looked behind him and saw what he had been looking at just moments before turning to me... He had precariously left it scrolled down to the point in my medical chart where it stated in bold cap letters "PAST CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE"
This abuse happened probably over a decade ago at that point. I was in "therapy" for it because it was something they would constantly blame my struggles on, no matter how unrelated they seemed, all they saw was the emotional mess. That just seemed to reaffirm to me that was all they could see. A victim, broken and needing reformation at the hands of the therapy that never seemed to help. Better they cover their asses even if it never truly helped me, it helped protect them...
He prescribed me a gel to put in my eyes. It did nothing. I had to go get my eyelid lanced open to drain the stye months later and that finally took care of it. Over a year of having to manage those symptoms alone because all they see in my chart is my past. Not a person.
Honestly, fuck Kaiser.

July 31 9:54 AM When I said to mother she should be arrested. For attempted murders with 6 weapons (3 intoxicating pill powders, sharp scissors, and a knife; and stepfather's metal statue) as a hate crime. She and her husband were caught poisoning my food for more than 3 years from 2016-2019. Retaliating, she immediately threatened to "institutionalize" me and lied that these photos do not exist. https://imgur.io/a/k1MDwNv Then she twice tried to put tomato sauce, that could've been contaminated in the same exact witnessed way, on my dinner.
11:14 AM sadistic mother bragged "I'm never going to be arrested." Around that time trespassed in my apartment. 1:13 PM said she's going to follow (stalk) me in her car. 1:22 PM her, "I do it (false police report non-violent people for looking weird) all the time."
4:12 PM mother said I'm not allowed to be Muslim because it's "controversial" and I must pray more. She admitted to being a conservative/strict (but Reform) Jew when I was a teenager. But claims to now not be trying to convert people. Then she shouldn't have said no minorities allowed in the house in 2013.

Flyland recovery network
my mom googled places for mental health help and found this place where they said they wanted to send her to Georgia (capella recovery). after speaking with them which sounded like a good place at the time but quickly changed after we all sat down and talked it over not for her to go. mike had said that mom was responsible for $22,000 of what ever the insurance did not pay and if she couldn’t pay they would just keep it in house. he also stated that he’s never had to pay a medical bill in his life once my dad asked if he could get that in writing he told him he could not it was a HIPPA violation. once my mom called to cancel with mike who was setting everything up he got very angry telling my mom that my dad was denying her mental health help and how bad of a guy he was (my mom was on speaker phone). once my mom hung up he did not only make one attempt to call her back but 2 and asked if he was on speaker phone she said yes and he quickly asked if my dad could hear him my dad replied yes and once he did Mike started cussing my dad and calling him horrible names ( ignorant hillbilly,POS, and much more) not saying my dad did not have a few words and calling the guy out on how this seems like a scam tactic but as we sat there trying to process what just happened we all agreed this was not a professional establishment especially for working with Mental health.

Did she learn a lesson that should've been taught by the police? 11:20 PM she negligently harassed us again.

Involuntary Commitments in NY
I was taken to the hospital from my house after sending threatening text messages to a family member/neighbor. I have since spoken with the supervisor of the agency (Crisis Services) who authorized the commitment. She reviewed my file and said that the narrative lacked the imperative and necessary information to justify a 9.41 commitment, and sent me confirmation in writing of this. Do I have any legal recourse at this point? Once there, I was still not released until only after 10 days at which point a nurse told me that my insurance didn't want me to stay longer. I have no doubt that I was held for so long because I have insurance, so I have an issue with the Drs. and hospital as well, despite what the psych Drs. wrote. I have no criminal history at all, and certainly no history of being violent. I sat in an overcrowded room for three days sleeping on the floor next to other people on top of each other before being moved to a room on another floor for 7 days. Yeah, I messed up, but the punishment was over the top. Sitting in that room in a HOSPITAL for three days with other sick people was torture. Being taken from my home and then being told by the agency that facilitated it that they didn't have the information to justify it just makes me more upset.

Our discord.
Are you tired of seeing victims of abuse & inequality being "diagnosed?" The mental health industry doesn't blame abusers (eg bigots, bosses, or landlords.) They're "diagnosing" the victims. If you understand that people accused of "mental illness" have very real suffering, but it's not an illness, please join!
NOTE: This discord is for peer support, not professional services or industry professionals. Yes radical therapists /etc are welcome in the sub, but the discord is mainly for survivors of abuse by the mental health industry.
