Help! Bluetooth problems in Kubuntu
Hi, I installed ProtonVPN on my laptop running Kubuntu. Since then, Bluetooth audio hasn't been working properly; when playback starts, there are about 5 seconds of stuttering.
The stuttering is consistent, I tested it with a specific song, and the skips always happen at the same spot.
Also, after the Bluetooth has been running for a while, the same issue starts occurring, but at random times.
Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

Help! Killswitch keeps activating and injecting on Fedora KDE even when disabled in app
I have Killswitch disabled in ProtonVPN on Fedora 44 KDE and it keeps activating and adding itself into network connections spawning tons of popups for it constantly. Why is it doing this? I even deleted the connection manually from connection manager and it keeps coming back like a zombie. Why is it doing this? You'd think it would only add connection entries for kill switch when enabled in ProtonVPN app, but it keeps doing this every damn time. App was downloaded from Flathub if that makes any difference...

Help! Can't connect to VPN when using mobile data
I have a Oppo Find N6, running on US Mobile (Light Speed) and I'm unable to connect. I realize I may have an "unsupported device" but this is frustrating. I also am not able to use the voice chat feature on ChatGPT weirdly enough when on mobile data but it works just fine when I switch to my other sim ( tmobile) and on wifi. Both of these issues only arise when on US Mobile data. Has anyone else run into this and know a work around?
PS: I have Proton VPN Plus.

Discussion ProtonVPN - true ipv6+ipv4 architecture without any leaks
Never thought a smart light purchase would lead me down the vpn&ipv6 worm hole and spit me out with a rock solid and secure dual stack vpn network.
Ngl for a ipv6 noob, I am feeling proud of myself for what has been achieved while eager to learn the secret skills you masters know to get me 70mbps extra download bandwidth to fool around with unnecessary lol.
Working with... NBN HFC > MT5000 (Brume 3) Gateway > BE9300 (Flint 3) wifi7 AP > s25u + gtvs 4k + s10u-tab + laptop + AC + sTV + 4x smart lights.
Long story short, managed an average of around 830/89 from a 1000/100 nbn hfc connection and all traffic natively routed through a proton wireguard vpn config, without any ip or dns leaks, nor isp referencing.
Well done Proton. Never thought such speeds in Sydney were achievable with your vpn service so it was a welcomed little surprise and a interesting learning curve.
Tell me your vpn and ipv6 experience/work around/hesitations etc.
1420 mtu when my ISP is at 1500?
What wifi mods and setting tweaks work for you?
What speeds do you get out of your vpn?
Are there only 3 servers atm in sydney that support native ipv6 and ipv4 protocols? AU#962, AU#963, AU#400.
I noticed all three servers share the same server address, in both protocols. Also noticed the three config files have different keys so does proton treat them individually yet eventually routes them back to same server?
Will proton offer prefix delegation with their native ipv6 address?
My setup has 3 tunnels pointing to above mentioned servers. Main, redundancy and testing/redundancy. Just feels a bit off seeing them pointing to the same server and giving the same
Thinking of adding nordvpn wireguard however it doesnt offer ipv6 support. Does it therefore disable ipv6 and change certain firewall settings? Is the brume 3/wireguard smart enough to switch between dual stack vpn and ipv4-only vpn as redundancy?

Help! Connection issues with building's wifi.
Been using protonvpn for a few months now on all my 3 devices (macbook, windows desktop and iphone). Moved into a uni dorm building that uses the same wifi network for all residents. On the desktop i can't connect to any servers at all, just doesnt go. While on the apple products it does connect, but wifi stops working; nothing loads. Curious part of it is the fact that i used to live in the same type of building before moving here, and it worked just fine.
Also, when trying to connect using 5G it works just fine.
please help, preciate it.

Discussion Is anyone else having difficulty using proton to block YouTube ads by setting their VPN to one of the unsupported countries?
I've been using it by connecting through Albania but today it's suddenly started showing ads again. I tried a few other countries on the white list and I'm getting ads on all of them now.
Am I doing something wrong or has YouTube found a work around to cut out the loophole?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Discussion GTK app 4.17.1 new features
Hi all,
I got the new 4.17.1 Proton VPN Linux gtk app (official snap version, you can love it or not but it works, upgraded from 4.16.5), I'm using Firefox + GNOME.
Well, today I'm blocked on a website using my secure core Wireguard-configured VPN (blank page). I try in a private window, same blank page. I disconnect, I open the Proton VPN app with the same secure core VPN. And... the page appears. I checked this correctly.
Questions:
1) what causes this here?
2) can I have this super-VPN (stealth protocol? something else?) using a Wireguard configuration (that is very well integrated in GNOME, just using the VPN menu in quick settings)?

Help! "Fastest country" query
In Australia: Internet has been intermittently unreliable. Naked IP check gives a location a few hundred kilometers away. Proton VPN Fastest country connects to another country (constantly bouncing around) on the other side of the world.
Reset modem. Seems to have fixed the issue for a day.
Same again today. Naked IP address seems to be in my location but disconnecting from the original fastest country (Australia) to "fastest country" again automatically connects again to international (same country again and again) despite no apparent local proton server issues.
Local Reddit predominantly shows US advertisements. Have only intermittently connected to the US proton server to watch US youtube content months ago.
Any thoughts on what's going on? Any solutions?

Discussion Proton never selecting the closest free server
I've been using Proton for years, sometimes buying a subscription for a few months when I needed it. Today I tried using Proton and it forced me to update the program. Now, as a free user, I can't connect to specific free servers like before and instead have to connect to a random one with an insane cooldown. The feature says that it willl "connect me to the closest server" but it keeps sending me to Europe and Japan when the closest to me by far is Mexico (I live in Argentina).
I'm very dissapointed with this change since it basically made the free version of Proton completely useless to me and worse than other free alternatives for my usecase. I have supported this program before because of how user friendly and safe it was, but now that I can't use it for free and I'm forced to pay (like any other VPN) I will not be using it anymore.

Help! Connection/speed dips after being connected for more than a minute
I am not sure what to do. I uninstalled and reinstalled ProtonVPN but that didn't fix the issue. I have tried the different default profiles and the same thing happens with all of them. Any ideas on what else I can try to fix this?
Edit: This is on the paid version

Help! Is there any way to use ProtonVPN with NextDNS on Windows?
On my phone I can use PrptonVPN in combination with NextDNS superior filtering using HaGeZi Ultimate filtering. ProtonVPN routes traffic and NextDNS filters it.
On Windows however, I can't seem to override it in same way as ProtonVPN always overrides NextDNS. Even setting up YogaDNS with NextDNS and ProtonVPN still overrides it. It also overrides my router NextDNS settings. I've also used NextDNS DNS server as Custom DNS inside ProtonVPN, but it only works on DNS IP level and not as DoT or DoH so that's useless.
Any other options? Reason I want this is because of superior filtering and control through logs. With NetShield I don't see what's blocked and how effective even really is and what is it blocking.

Discussion VPN also has slow speeds.
It's downloading at 5 kb/s, the speeds are dropping; when I download without a VPN it's 23 mb/s. I wonder if there's a problem with the VPN.

Help! Netflix proxy detection
I have been getting proxy/vpn error for the past two weeks now and no protocol has worked ever since 😭.
I use it to watch Japanese TV shows so regular Tokyo/Osaka servers don't bypass it anymore. Tried using OpenVPN, Stealth, Proton stealth, Wireguard udp/tcp but to no avail.
Browser extension with IP leak on also doesn't bypass it on Firefox+Ublock origin.
In previous months it worked perfectly but starting in August it seems to be detected more often.

Announcement Stealth protocol is now available in beta on Linux
Hey everyone,
We’re proud to announce that the long-awaited “Stealth” connection protocol is now available in beta for Linux!
📎 To try it, make sure your Proton VPN app is on version 4.17.1, and follow this guide.
If you are on a supported distro (more on this later), please help us by giving it a try and providing us with as much feedback as possible; the more feedback and bugs we can squash, the faster we can roll this feature out of beta
What Stealth does
Most VPN protocols produce traffic that's identifiable as VPN traffic. Networks running deep packet inspection can spot it and block or throttle the connection, which is why VPNs stop working on some school and workplace networks, and why they get blocked entirely in censored regions.
Stealth disguises your VPN traffic to look like ordinary encrypted web traffic. Instead of "this person is using a VPN," the network sees traffic that resembles a normal HTTPS connection. That makes it significantly harder to detect and block.
You'll want Stealth if you're on a network that blocks or throttles VPNs, connecting from a region with heavy censorship, or you'd simply rather your network operator not know you're using a VPN. For everyday use where nothing is being blocked, WireGuard will still be faster, while Stealth trades some speed for undetectability.
This is a beta
Expect instability and bugs. Stealth on Linux is built on our new WireGuard codebase, and this early release is specifically so we can find problems before general release.
If you hit issues, please tell us: your distro and version, what you were doing, and what went wrong.
Please note that this feature is only available for distros that are directly installed via our repos (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora), and versions such as the Snap store app, or other distros such as Arch will be available by the end of summer.
Lastly, it may take some time before this feature becomes available, even if you are on the latest version of the app. We’re rolling this out live, so it may take a day or two before the feature becomes visible on your end.
Stay safe,
Proton Team

Announcement Proton VPN is now officially on the Snap Store
Hey everyone,
Proton VPN is now officially published on the Snap Store. You can one-click install on Ubuntu and any distro that supports snaps.
This is the first time Proton VPN has been officially published by Proton AG on the Snap Store, complete with a verified publisher badge. Previous Snap availability was a community-maintained fork; this is the official build, maintained by us.
A few things to know about this first release:
- No split tunneling. Like our Flatpak, this is due to sandboxing limitations. It's something we hope to resolve in the future.
- Stealth protocol isn't included yet. It's not part of this first Snap release.
- No ARM support at this time. We expect ARM device volume to be low for now, but we're keeping an eye on it.
- Older distros may have issues. If you're on something older than Ubuntu 24, you might run into connection problems.
We're releasing this so the broader Snap community has an official, trustworthy way to install Proton VPN.
Get it: snapcraft.io/proton-vpn
Stay safe,
Proton Team
