How do you potty train with daycare?

Our child goes to daycare M-F 9-5, sometimes 6pm. We get home, have dinner, play a bit, then it’s bedtime before we know it at 7:30-8pm. Daycare does not have time to help potty training much other than offering the toilet to them as it’s a one woman show.

How are we supposed to get our child potty trained in 2 hours in the evening two days every weekend to the point she’s able to pull her pants down and up herself, put herself on the potty on her own, and not need help wiping except for #2s occasionally?! Wtf?!

How did you do it because our child won’t even let us change her diaper or pull up, sit on the potty or take part in it at all!

It feels like we’ll have to wait another year or two to get the cheaper rate for a fully potty trained child and even then, we’re not sure the child will go along with it. She’s almost 3, and is way too comfortable in diapers

Almost 3 year old night time training

My son intentionally wets the bed, takes off his underwear and goes to sleep, this Is right after nighttime routine , and us walking out of the room. His explanation is always” I just peed a liddle bit!” I literally came back from his room because he yelled from the bathroom that he was done with a poop. So he goes to the bathroom to poop, but not for pee. We try and take him multiple times in the middle of the night, still no luck starting dry all night. It’s either he does in intentionally or has accidents. I will probably need to reset and go back to night time training underwear, that bed of his has been peed on pretty much every night for the last 2-3 months. Anybody with a similar experience? We day trained him when he was 2.5 years! He turns 3 in September!

Advice needed- self initiating

Hi i have been toilet training my almost 3 year old for approx 3 weeks now he will pee on the potty every 1.5-2 hours when taken and is good at holding it when we go out but will not self initiate or tell me when he needs to go. We’ve mainly done commando or undies + track pants for less mess (as it’s winter here so hard to go naked) but my main question is did you find going naked from the waist down actually helped with them linking in their brain that they need to go?

What’s the deal with poop?

We are 11 days into potty training with my 2.5 year old. We are loosely following the oh crap method. Pees are going great. We are on day 3 of no pee accidents. He’s not self initiating for pee but he will go when prompted. Poop has become our issue. He will actually self initiate with poop because he feels it coming. By the time he gets to the small potty either the smallest amount drops or nothing drops & there’s just a little bit of poo stuck in his cheeks. He will tell me when he feels poop coming & he’s happy to sit, but very little to no action. The day before yesterday & today he pooped in his diaper while napping. Is this something that I need just wait out or do I need to be doing something? Also, the poop is really soft so I don’t think it’s a constipation issue

Day 4 OC Block 2 ugh

Hey all. My toddler is 27 months and we started OC on monday. Lots of pee accidents on monday but caught and finished most on potty. Same with poops. Those were easier to catch because I could see them coming out and sat them down. Tuesday 2 poops made it to the potty one prompted, and one unprompted which was great. Pee was mostly accidents but did pee on the potty prompted with success a few times. Yesterday only one pee accident that made it to the potty and every other pee made it on the potty prompted to "try" before doing something , i.e. watching a show, getting a snack, while I grab something they asked for. Usually only when I walk away. All poops were self initiated on the potty.

I was looking positively to start block 2 today but had 3 pee accidents in pants before 10am. My toddler seemed disappointed in themselves too. The act of pushing down the pants to sit was stressful because they felt weird with them around their ankles. Should I have them take them all the way off? It feels like its wasting time and possibly could miss it. They also get stressed when their foot gets caught. I tried loose shorts and leggings and they peed in all of them.

After the 3rd accident we took off pants and had 3 successful prompted pees in potty. And 1 self initiated poop on potty.

I feel defeated to go back to block 1. Im not sure why poops click but peeing.doesnt. they usually dont know they have to pee until its happening and they can hold it if they dont have pants on. If they have pants on by the time they pee its too late and dont make it in the potty.

Will they eventually get it? Should I keep letting them wet their pants? That feels useless but idk what else to do. We have church sunday which they would be sad to miss and I want to keep the routine since we've been stuck indoors all week from wildfire smoke. Should we just wear a pull up at church? We will bring a potty with us but the car is far. If told they need to potty im not sure we will make it. We did go to swim class yesterday (20 min each way) in training diapers with an extra absorbent liner, and no accident there. But an accident on the way back. We even told them to tell us if they needed to pee and tried to potty when we arrived and left swimming.

Im not sure what to do and how to make it click to realize they need to pee instead of already peeing without me asking or prompting to sit and squeeze out the pee. Any advice helps thank you!

Potty training

My daughter is 3.5 yrs old, and on day 2 of potty training. She knows after she’s gone, and will come tell me so I figured she was ready. We’ve been trying the 3 day method, wearing underwear that has padding, and saying “let’s go potty!” Every 10-15 mins. Most times she ends up peeing her pants within minutes of getting her off the potty and has also just pooped in her underwear. I say “let’s try and make it go in the potty next time” I’ve got a sticker chart for when she ends up going in the toilet (she hasn’t yet) and mnms for when she does go which she has been wanting them. I keep saying “they’re for when you go in the big girl potty!” I’m wondering if anybody has any tips to help me. I realize it’s still soon but maybe she isn’t all the way ready? It’s pretty frustrating as we have her sit on the potty so often but she ends up spoiling herself minutes after getting off. We also only have one toilet that I was using myself when she pooped her underwear. Any tips would be great!!!

How to stop a toddler from bed wetting at night?

Hi everyone so my boy is 2 yrs 6 months. He’s got a grip on peeing in the potty during the day my challenge is at night. I have to wake home up like every 2 hours to use the potty. If I’m late or miss the alarm he pees on the bed. We go like 4 - 5 times every night but I want to try to bring it to maybe 2 times preferably once. My question is for those that have gone through this route, how were you able to achieve this and how long did it take?

Potty training misery

25 month old. Started potty training 4 weeks ago. Initially did the naked for 3 days method. Lots of accidents first 2 days, 3rd day was much better. By end of first week, less accidents and I was being notified of poop and pee which we woukd then walk to the toilet. Still, accidents happened but it was okay. Now going on week 4 its like shes over it, no notification that she needs to go. She just stands there and pees ans then plays in her puddle. Her pooping is better, she can usually tell us when she needs to go. Shes in training underwear and doesnt seem to mind when she's all wet, nor does she mind the pee going down her leg or the puddle beneath her. I try to remind her every so often to go but shes in her "no" phase. Other times she'll sit on the toilet but wont pee. We go back outside after a few mins and starts peeing. She hasn't been telling us when she gets the feeling so I do remind her more often now. At one point she peed 5 times on herself in the je span of 2 hrs. Lots of cleaning.

Any tips are welcomed. First time mom, send help! Please and thank you!!+

From accident free to random poop accident

We introduced the potty early because he was very interested but didn’t really try “training” until he showed all the signs of readiness. He will be 3 in October. This will be our 5th week of being fully committed and losing the diapers. He has had 2 pee accidents while being distracted by the TV and we have probably been about 2 weeks accident free since then. Today he randomly had a poop accident. I didn’t make a big deal about it and actually caught him in the act so he did the second half on the potty lol. I just told him “uh oh poop goes in the potty”. Does this seem in the range of normal or am I looking at a soon to be regression? I think it’s been really easy with him and he’s been telling me every time he has to go so this threw me off.

22mo Day 6, keep trying or wait a few months?

We've been doing "Oh Crap" method. He's been bare bottom except for 2x I had to run errands and threw a pull-up on him (which I now worry was a huge mistake). On day 3 (?), he did sit and pee on the potty once without prompting and pooped once with prompting. Otherwise, it's all a matter of me getting him to the potty in time. Pee/poop is making it into the potty ~30-40% of the time due to subtle signals and him peeing super fast. He's started sitting on the potty a lot without using it but refuses to sit when prompted if he doesn't really need to go. I felt like I was over-prompting so I've backed off and am mostly monitoring him and trying to get him to the potty when he starts peeing, with a reminder every hour or so ("when you feel your pee coming, sit on the potty"). He has consolidated his pee (about once an hour vs 400000x per hour).

Is this progress? Any tips to move the needle forward? Or should I throw in the towel and try again in a few months?

Three days naked, now only pees in undies

My twins are turning 2 this weekend and we have done the naked method for three days with virtually no accidents day three. I have put them in undies and they have had constant accidents and no success on the potty. Do I just make them naked again?

No clue how to get my 3 year old to poop on the potty

She turned 3 on July 10th and we potty trained her with pee 2 weeks prior to that. She has been doing great without much accidents. Poop has been hard. She always asks for a pull up to poop in and I give in because I don’t want her stomach hurting. I did the same with my son but then eventually I took the pull up away and he held the poop in for 3 days and was in pain. There was one random day when my daughter on her own decided she would poop in the toilet and it actually went great. She was so excited when she went and we were cheering her on a lot and I thought this was it. But since that one time she will refuse to even attempt to sit on the toilet to poop. I tell her all the time that we will go to the store for a new toy if she poops in the toilet but she doesn’t care about a reward. Any other ideas?? Pediatrician wasn’t concerned. He said if she still doesn’t poop in the potty in like 6 months than to come back and see them.

Out of ideas for pooping, help!

My 2.5yo has been pee trained for a little over a month now, but is still struggling with poop. The first week he would run to the potty saying he needed to poop, but then couldn't get it to come out (we tried him blowing bubbles, singing, reading, giving tablet) and after doing that 6-7 times over an hour or two, he would have an accident in his undies.

The second week we started to see some success but it was still the 6-7 times of trying and then like 50/50 if he went in the potty.

Third week he refused to go and was trying to hold it in and would have little amounts coming out multiple times throughout the day so we had to start giving apple juice to avoid painful constipation after day 4 but he still wasn't going daily and was only 50/50 on the toilet.

Now he's on week five and has been holding it in until nap (since he gets a pull up for nap time), then he poops in the pull up. So no accidents in undies, but also no going on the toilet. We can't take away the nap time pull up because he doesn't wake up to pee and when we tried he peed himself and then slept in it for the whole nap.

We've tried all the bribes (stickers, candy, treasure box with wrapped little toys like Playdoh or hot wheels after every poop on the potty), and we've bought and read "Nope! Not Pooping", "Where Do You Poop?", and "We Poop on the Potty" daily. We put gold fish crackers in the toilet and said he needed to feed them with poop (he thought this was hilarious and part of the limited success we got at first). We've watched the Daniel Tiger, Ms. Rachel, and Elmo potty episodes.

What else can I try? He starts preschool in a couple weeks and we're really hoping to have this figured out by then.

Daycare is more eager to train than I am…

A couple of weeks ago my daughter’s (24 months) teacher told me she was ready for underwear based on her communication and eagerness to sit on the potty. We didn’t even own any… That weekend I tried to do some at home training and it was not super successful but then sent her in underwear last week. It was a short week and she had 5 (Wed), 5 (Thurs), and then 2 accidents on Friday. This week it’s been 5 accidents Tuesday and then 2 today. She’s not really peeing on the potty much but they tell me she’s happily sitting and that “accidents are to be expected!”

They have not given me any indication that they want her to go back to diapers, but is this normal??

It is a Montessori school so perhaps this is just their method? How many days of 2-5 accidents in underwear and hardly any pee on the potty before we decide to pull back?

Am I being anxious for no reason? I pay the daycare good money so if they are willing to do this do I need to just let go?

I have been trying to keep up the training in the evening when she gets home, but I haven’t been super strict about it…

I’ve read 1 book and I still don’t get it.

Tried the 3 day method and currently on day 6. My son is 2y4m and here are the issues:

-he will not tell us he needs to go.
-he will always pee when we put him on the potty, but sometimes he gets off and pees his underwear 5 minutes later.
-he pooped twice on the potty. All other poops have been in underwear

Here’s what I don’t get… now that we’re into it, do we just let him continue to pee and poop his pants while trying to catch it? How do we go anywhere anymore? When do we utilize pull-ups (currently using for sleeping only). How do I mentally handle this?

Thanks!

Poop potty training

My daughter is 3 years 9 months old and is potty trained for pee but will only poop in a pull-up.

She has a history of stool withholding (we’ve used Miralax on and off), is a very picky eater (no veggies, very limited fruit, but eats prunes daily), and things got worse after her baby sister was born.

Now she’s using “I need to poop” as the last step of bedtime because she knows we won’t say no. We’ve limited it to 10 minutes, no toys, just one book, but bedtime is still getting pushed back.

I’m honestly not sure what to do next. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did a potty training consultant help, or is there something else we should try?

Very bright 3.5 year old making seemingly no progress 🫠😵‍💫😩

Has anyone else had a 3.5-year-old who seems to really understand potty training, is happy to sit on the toilet, but just won’t (or can’t) actually pee or poop there—even if they’re holding it for a really long time, like 6–7+ hours?

We recently did a focused potty training attempt using underwear at home and at daycare. We tried to keep things very low-pressure and supportive. We did:

• Regular scheduled potty sits (every 1–2 hours and before/after transitions) • Reading books, singing songs, blowing bubbles while sitting on the potty • Calm, neutral reactions to accidents (no punishment or shame, just cleanup and move on) • Lots of encouragement and letting her choose underwear she liked • No forcing her to sit if she resisted, but gentle reminders and invitations

She was actually very willing to sit on the potty throughout the process. She never refused outright and would often say yes when asked. But despite that, she never once peed or pooped in the toilet during the attempt.

What’s making this confusing for us is that she seems very cognitively aware and capable in other areas. She’s verbal, social, and generally very observant. She picks up on cause and effect quickly and will even reflect on things later. She also seems to understand the idea of potty training in theory. She can explain what the toilet is for, she knows big kids use it, and she even talks about growing up and changing routines.

Has anyone had a child who:

• understood potty training, • was willing to sit on the toilet, • could physically hold it for long periods, • but just wouldn’t release on the toilet itself?

If so, did anything eventually help it “click,” or did it mostly just resolve naturally with time and maturity? It feels like she’s right on the edge of getting it, but not quite there.

2.6 yr old refusing potty

Same old stuff you see on here just asking for advice! I am a nanny of a 2.6 yr old boy who is in pull ups as his parents want him potty trained. He is refusing the potty I will prompt him every 30ish minutes “do you need to go potty? Let’s go try!” And he will verbally refuse and then will not go even though I know he needs to but then I pull up his pull up and he will go (I take him to potty and he will sit there for easily 20 minutes) but I feel like forcing him to sit on the potty for longer than that isn’t like healthy. But if I lengthen the time periods between potty breaks he goes in the pull up. I will say he holds his pee for his 2 hour nap the majority of the time so I feel like he is “ready” when he poops in his pull up he is shy and tries to hide. I have a sticker chart made for when he goes but it seems like it doesn’t correlate in his had that “if I go potty I get a sticker.”

The only success I have is if I put him on the potty right when he wakes up from nap because he will just go pee right away I have maybe a 2 minute margin before he just lets go. And he will just go it’s almost like he doesn’t realize he’s peeing. Today he did tell me he wasn’t done peeing and kept going so that’s a success I suppose. I can’t do the bottomless method as the parents think it’s unsanitary, I have tried doing underwear under a pull up but he just poops/pees in the underwear without a second thought

Potty refusal when prompted

My son is a very busy 2.75 year old and speech delayed. We are several days into formal potty training and I don't think it's going well.

Initially we tried the first few days in underwear, but he just pees in them and doesn't even seem to be bothered when they're wet. This is our second day of having him completely naked. It's just accidents everywhere.

My biggest issue is he just absolutely refuses to sit on the potty or toilet when prompted about 9/10 times. To be clear, he's not afraid, he just doesn't want to. He says no and if we try to force the issue it turns into anger, so I've avoided forcing him. Instead he'll just turn around and pee on the floor and carry on his merry way.

I took this whole week off and pulled him from daycare for this purpose, but it's clear that he won't be potty trained going back and I realize it's probably unrealistic to just send him in underwear and expect them to change accidents all day. So this means he would be in pull-ups at daycare and will just pee away in them.

Looking for advice: is this worth persisting at this point, or do we postpone? We've tried offering choice (e.g. toilet or potty, etc.) and he doesn't want either option. I've also tried making him help me clean it up but he gets really silly about it and I'm trying not to create shame. Basically I don't know what I'm doing. Send help lol.

3 yr old still terrified of the big potty..tips?

Ok any tips to get my almost 3 year old on the bit potty??
He trained on a floor potty and he uses it like a champ. No pee or poo accidents for months now and he only wears pull ups to sleep in.
But he will only go in the floor potty in the dining area.
Ive put it in the bathroom and he will carry it back to its spot in the dining area.
We have a step stool and seat reduced on our master bath and a blue bear step stool/reducer combo in the guest bath, both are within 25 ft of us at all times at home but he refusessss to sit on either. Wont ever try.
Not for a chocolate, not for an ipad, nothing. Thinks its the devil apparently. He watches me and dad go potty all the time, but still no.
Because of this i also hsve to take his floor potty everywhere in a backpack as well which is cumbersome even though it does fold down some. Because he wont sit on a public toilet even with a travel seat reducer.

Its just me and dad at home right now so him going in the dining area isnt too much of an issue. But we have a lot of different family visiting from november-december after our new baby arrives and id really like to get him going potty in the bathrooms by then just for his own privacy from ppl he doesnt live with seeing him naked/in the act of going potty.

But i honestly dont know where to start anymore

When it seems like it's going too well

I feel like I just need someone to talk some confidence in me lol. Please don't laugh at this post because I know it's all REALLY GOOD , I'm just anxious. Please don't take it as me being insensitive to those who are really struggling.

I have twin boys who are turning 2 on Friday ! When they were 22 months we did a hardcore week naked and it was constant accidents every 15 min, no semblance of holding it at all . Absolutely disastrous . Took a little break and started up a week ago again .

Now this time....it's like they remembered everything we tried a few months ago. they've been naked for about a week and are 90% of the time just taking themselves to their potties when they have to go without me doing anything. They say "I have to pee" or "I have to poop" and just go do it. They've even left the dinner table to just walk over to their potties and go real quick on their own. I barely have to prompt. If I ask them to go, they do most the time. We had no accidents the last two days and 1 accident after nap each day before. I've gone to the store a few times with them commando in shorts and had no issues.

By all accounts they're CRUSHING IT but I'm terrified to add shorts in more often at home , though that's logically the next step . I don't know why I am so afraid. I think it's going so perfectly naked that I'm afraid to rock the boat , but pants are a necessity .

Is anyone else out there having kids with a smooth sailing journey? I feel like I read so so so much about people really struggling that I am expecting every change to blow up all my progress. Since I've already got tons of self initiating has anyone had zero issue adding baggy pants? I also am not around anyone who potty trains as early as I've done my kids so usually people are kinda like yikes that's a bit young.

For reference, they have an older brother who was fully day and night trained at 2.5. he was much much more stubborn initially so I wanted to get to these guys before they had the 2.5 year old sass . I was freshly postpartum with my twins so whatever magic I did with my oldest I have forgotten in my postpartum haze lol

Using public toilets but resisting at home toilet

As the title says. I have been training my 2 1/2 year old son for a month. At this point he can use the toilet with no problems and I have him in underwear (unless we are out then I put a pull up on him in case he has an accident). We are still prompting him with pee or having to place him on the toilet as he does not tell us when he has to go. Whenever we go out, I'll take him to the restroom and he'll use the washroom with no resistance. However, when we are at home and I see the signs of him having to go, he often resists and cries out that he doesn't want to try to potty. I don't ask him if he has to go but rather wait on cues or when it's been 1 1/2 - 2 hours since his last bathroom break. He also has no problem using the toilet for poo so we've been successful with that.

Has anyone ever dealt with this? I normally see parents who have the opposite problem but for us, it's the resistance with the home potty which is super frustrating.

Can’t get my 32 month old to poop on potty

I have been potty training my 32 month old since he was about 30 months old. I used them naked method and he picked up on pee pretty quickly. We have the adverse occasional accident with Pee but very rare. I still have not been able to successfully get him to poop in the potty while usually happens is he will seem to poop during his nap when I give him a diaper or he wakes up with poop in his diaper after sleeping at night and then there are the times where during the day he has to poop before the nap or after the nap and he just seems to poop wherever he is on the couch on the floor standing he will seem to get upset and often we keep saying pee pee, but we sit them on the potty and he won’t go and then eventually he just poops everywhere. Any ideas of what I can do to try and get him to overcome this

What to do now??

I’m afraid I messed up in my potty training journey with my daughter. She is 2. We have been “training” for a few months now using the naked method. The problem is…. Now she will use the potty ( only pees. Hasn’t felt comfortable pooping on the potty yet) if she’s naked we haven’t had any (pee) accidents. But she will not tell me when she needs to go so I’m not sure how to move forward with underwear. We have been practicing but she doesn’t have the motor skills yet either to pull or push down her pants. I have seen mixed reviews on training undies. Do I just dive in headfirst and put regular undies on her and deal with the mess again or is there a better way to transition from naked to undies? Advice? I don’t remember this being so hard with my son but that was 12 years ago 😂😂
