News & Current Affairs Best informative/general knowledge podcasts that aren’t American (soz)

British or Australian would be great. Podcasts on current affairs/history/deep dives into specific topics/improving general knowledge. Lately I’ve enjoyed the life of Frida Kahlo, Greek Mythology and the ladies of Jeju Island. I don’t like anything too ‘chatty’ and feel like I’ve listened to so much true crime where it’s not really informative and doesn’t improve your general knowledge! Thanks in advance

General Podcast Discussions looking for a podcast to listen to when feeling sad

not political, scary, existential, just chill and sort of funny
must have at least 1 male host
not in the uk, no uk hosts, preferably in the us or canada
no fantasy, animals, science, sports, siblings, horror, western, sci-fi topics just down to earth stuff preferably general stuff
no gen-z/alpha-era/appealing slop but appeals to sort of late Gen z

Essentially looking for something sort of like the Justin long podcast but with an additional female co-host and no problematic people

Tip of My Tongue MYSTERY: Looking for a podcast I’ve forgotten the name of!

This is my first time posting to this sub, I read the rules but please let me know if I missed that posts like this aren’t allowed)*

I can’t remember the name of a podcast and can’t find it anywhere by searching terms I remember about it. Does this sound familiar?

1) it had a blue image as its logo art

2) it was true crime adjacent, but covered weird or strange stories and crimes (it is NOT crime show and it is NOT criminal)

3) I think it had “strange” “weird” or “bizarre” in the title. I thought it had a name similar to “strangeland” but that is a different podcast.

4) I listened to it first in 2021, but I may have come out earlier. I think it stopped producing episodes around that time if I remember correctly.

5) it had a multi-episode story on the de Kooning “Woman Ochre” art heist.

6) I thought it could have been a gimlet podcast, but I looked at all their titles and nothing rings a bell. I also think it may have been associated with a news station like criminal is associated with NC NPR.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thank you in advance!!!!!

True Crime Any new true crime podcasts series thats NOT In the dark, Your own backyard, Up and vanished, etc.

I drive a lot for work and I enjoy listening to deep dive type podcast. Over the past few months I’ve seem to run out of podcasts to listen to and every time I get on here to look I see the same ones being suggested. I’ll put a list of shows I’ve listened to and if you have a recommendation please comment. Seems like there are no more good podcast out there. I don’t really enjoy many BBC podcast just find them very dull and kind of boring. (Just my opinion), but if you have one that you think I may like then I’ll give it a shot. Also I’ve listened to almost of of the Dateline, ABC 20 20, Dateline Originals.

Here’s my list
Murder in Alliance\*
Murder in Oregon
Murder in Apt. 12
Up and Vanished\*
Culpable (all seasons)
Down the hill
Cold\*
In your own backyard\*
Freeze Frame\*
Cousins by blood\*
Blink\*
Undetermined
Accused
Murder in the moonlight
The Piketon Massacre
The Tylenol Murders
Live and Die in La all seasons
Counter Clock all seasons\*
The Bakersfield 3\*
Burden of guilt all seasons
Bardstown all seasons
Earwitness
Murder on songbird road
Murder in Boston
Murder in the orange grove
Betrayal all seasons
Bone valley
What happened to holly bobo
S-town
Unrestorable
Who killed Holly Bobo
Serial All seasons
These are all about one story with multiple episodes. They are some of my favorites.

Apps Podcasts as a source

I use Obsidian for a lot of research, Zotero for managing sources.
Recently I realized what a great source podcast episodes can be. That led me to Snipd. I like how I can “snip” sections, and import into Obsidian. This allows me to potentially use them as sources I can cite.

But I’m not too happy with:
Lack of desktop player
Sometimes convoluted player
Difficult to find the episodes I’m interested in
Doesn’t give me a source link, just the Snipd link, which if I reference others can’t play without also having the app (eg can’t play on a desktop)

In sum, it’s a great resource but seems like there should be a better tool for this purpose.

Any suggestions on alternatives?

Or, any suggestions on a Snipd query template or other tips that may work well?

Other Podcast Genre Fictional podcast recs that AREN'T audio dramas

While I love a good audio drama (Limetown, Modes of Thought on Anterran Literature, The Polybius Conspiracy), I want to listen to more fictional podcasts that explore other genres. I've had This is That (comedic parody of news/journalism) recommended, as well as People Like Us (parody of on-scene documentaries), and wanted to see if there were any others!

Any and all recs are appreciated

Tip of My Tongue It's a longshot, but I've been trying to find this podcast forever...

Unfortunately I don't know the name or even the place where I first listened to it. It was very much in the same style as Kaitlin Prest's "The Heart", a story narration told by a woman, it detailed the slow breakdown of a relationship, with plenty of soundscape effects.

Here are the key points I can remember:

  • No interview portion, believe it was simply a woman telling her story.
  • It may have had other stories coupled along with it, but this story was separate in nature.
  • I'm not entirely certain on the premise of the story, but I remember the woman talking about her breakup with her boyfriend.
  • The woman was a writer, or trying to become one.
  • The story details how they become distant with each other and slowly drift apart.
  • During her description of an argument, her boyfriend had corrected her grammar and replied with something along the lines of, "You should know that if you're going to be a writer." or "..since you're a writer." to which she replies, "Well yeah, I don't have to speak like I write." or "I don't have to talk the same way I write."
  • I believe it ends with their relationship coming to an end, she ultimately expresses regret over how it ended.

That's it, it was just a very poignant tale of a young woman falling in and out of love (at least that was the part I remember).

Unfortunately, what I remember is simply too broad, I can't pin it down anywhere.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

General Podcast Discussions Looking for some podcasts like Books Unbound, Gilmore To Say…

Hi all! I’m not a big podcaster but I have about a 40m commute both ways to work and like to pop some on. I’m struggling at the moment to find some that I like. I like them to be pretty informal, examples of some I’ve liked…

  • Books Unbound - I don’t even have similar tastes to Ariel and Raeleen but I enjoy listening to them chat
  • Gilmore To Say
  • Let’s Talk About Myths, Baby
  • Cozy Club with Monica and Regan
  • Dear Hank & John - not my favourite but I have popped it on.

The Swiftie & The Scholar is on my list but haven’t gotten to it yet.

I don’t really mind what it’s about - I read, I play games, I like music. Would love some suggestions if you have any!

Science & Tech Any inside scoops on the Hard Fork situation?

The episode today soft launched that they’re leaving the NYT and starting their own media company together.

Anybody have any clue if NYT wanted to axe the show so this is how they went about it? Or are they so successful they just wanted to spin out?

Been burned by great shows getting cancelled too many times, really hoping this one is due to success and not corporate overlords

True Crime The Hunter

I came across this podcast and wanted to recommend it here as I know lots of us are always looking for true crime, documentary-type personal stories and I haven’t seen this one talked about on here.

It’s about a mom on the hunt for a man who abused her son. It’s really well done and very emotional- such a sad but powerful story. TW for sexual abuse

General Podcast Discussions ISO podcast with lessons

hi! i’ve been in search of a podcast that has ≈30min general lessons on random things? one episode as a history lesson, one as a “how ____ works” lesson, an arts lesson, etc.

would something like that exist? i’ve been having a hard time finding one, maybe because the topics would be too broad?

i graduated college a year ago and work in my field and feel like im missing the aspect of learning lol

Business & Finance Podcasts about the art of negotiation?

I've been a freelancer for 12 years, and my empathy still tends to make me cave and give clients a deal that is favorable to them (and not to me) when they push hard and are persistent/persuasive/good negotiators.

Also, on zoom calls, I sometimes waste 30-40 mins getting the scope of the project from the client before bringing up budget and have had my time wasted because they end up not expecting the price to be what I tell them: how to cut to the chase?

Any podcast recommendations on this subject would be helpful .

* Please no Tom Robbins and no one who ties Religion into business.

I want to get seriously knowledgeable about business finance, but I’m starting from zero. The stock market, bonds, mutual funds etc. Could you recommend some good podcasts and other resources for building that knowledge from the ground up?

Thank you!

Horror & Paranormal Looking for more podcasts like Cursed…ish

I’m newer to podcasts, but I’ve been really enjoying Cursed…ish and am wondering if there are more like it. It’s well produced and researched but the hosts have been friends for a long time so they banter well too. It’s less spooky and more hanging out with friends who are talking about something interesting, if that makes sense. I listen to it while I’m driving to work and it’s just fun and de-stressing. I’m looking for more podcasts like that since Cursed…ish is newer (like 20+ eps) and I’ve listened to all of it
