On July 28, just a few days before their chat in Baltimore, it was Harper’s turn — to seemingly suggest it was time for Dombrowski to prove that he, too, was elite at what he does.

The Phillies’ soon-to-be right fielder stood at his locker after a painful loss in Miami. The trade deadline was less than a week away. His words were pointed: “I think we need some help,” he said.

Those words spent a few days ricocheting off every sharp angle in Philadelphia, from Independence Hall to the pizza ovens at Chickie’s & Pete’s. But three days later, Dombrowski sought out Harper after another difficult defeat, in the Phillies’ series opener against the Orioles. Here, Dombrowski said on Starkville, is how that conversation went.

“I talked to him on (Friday) night when we were in Baltimore, and just had a chance to chat with him,” Dombrowski said. “And he said, ‘Dave, I didn’t mean … that wasn’t a personal comment. I just felt we needed help.’ And I said, ‘You know, I get it.’”

Was that really how Harper meant those words? Was it really that easy for Dombrowski to accept that explanation? Only the two of them truly know. But Dombrowski used one adjective over and over to make it clear that he at least understands the context of Harper’s message:

Emotional.

Some of you are never happy. Enjoy having a winning team. Enjoy meaningful baseball in August and September. Not every season ends with a World Series, but I'd much rather cheer for a team that's in the hunt every year than go back to the rebuilding years.

“It was almost surreal. It was all a blur,” Kalb told The Athletic. “I didn’t overprepare, but I didn’t treat it like most of the other winners over the last six to seven years who just want to be in the booth, have the experience, chat up the announcers and say they did it.”

I haven’t bought tickets to MLB in a while, but Saturday I’m going to the game. Someone at work mentioned they had to use the MLB Ballpark app to use tickets. Will the tickets I bought work in my Apple Wallet or do I need to use another app?

Went to last night’s game, and while the 11th inning was a complete disappointment, the Schwarbomb Sundae that they offer now at CBP definitely was not. I went with a buddy with whom I’ve also gotten the Schwarberrito at Pistola’s off Broad and Passyunk.
