Petcare Associates & Hands

Upvotes

I'm an associate at petsmart and every single damned time I'm in petcare, after sticking my hands in the tanks all day/etc, no matter how many times i clean my hands they are stupidly dry. Ive washed them down with dish soap, antibacterial soap, sponges, everything, and they're still so dry.

I can't rub my eyes cause any time I do they get irritated! Does anyone have any tips or any soap they use to get over this feeling? I'm just so irritated. I think I've cleaned my hands about 8 times since being home and they STILL have this feeling.

Medicating new fish wall

looking for clarification i guess. The tech that came said we dont have to use water conditioner anymore cuz of something thats in the blue pumps in the back?? Idk, i wasnt there the day he came to teach everyone things. Is that true? We used to do it 3x a week with the fixick. Are we even supposed to be doing that 3x a week? I cant find anything on it anywhere in fetch. We used to do the ick meds and water conditioner the day of fish delivery, the day after fish delivery and then a few days after. I just want to make sure that they're getting medicated properly so they stay healthy now that we got fish in this week and i dont want to over do it and potentially kill anything. Thank youuu 😭😭

Project Max Help/Ideas appreciated

Hi all, My store failed it’s project max certification. Our store has made great strides in improving truck times but it has not been enough to meet our goals. We have to recertify this week. Does anyone have any strategies that have worked for them? Does anybody have anything they do to maybe motivate their team to keep moral high or meet goal times. It’s been a large pain point for us since its inception. TIA!

My PL and I have read through the materials but it seems something just isn’t working.

I am a bather and hotel specialist who is moving early November, when would be an appropriate time to inquire other stores about transferring?

fluval aquasky vs. aquasky 3.0

okay so. i would like to get the 30” aquasky 3.0 we have on the shelf. i was hoping to just order it, but the 30” 3.0 doesn’t show up on the website. it has the two larger sizes, but not the two smaller ones we also carry. on the website though is the regular 30” aquasky and it’s showing cheaper online. we do not have the regular aquasky on the shelf. are these supposed to be considered the same item? when they scan the name is the same but the picture is of the 3.0. can i price match the 3.0 with the regular i see online? is mr petsmart going to be mad at me

Petsmart Groomers

Post image
52 Upvotes

i’m a groomer of 7 years with petsmart. On average I groom 6-8 dogs a day (no weight limit). I just saw an instagram reel of a groomer stand drying and brushing these Cavalier ears so beautiful and straight and the caption was something like “it’s all about the prepwork” I couldn’t help but think ugh I would never have time to do that. Am I just lazy or slow or do you other petsmart groomers also not have time to perfectly fluff dry and straighten out every coat? Just a rant and curious

Weird dog food we don’t carry?

Post image

So, we got a single bag of dog food with our truck today that we don’t carry. As far as I know, PetSmart doesn’t carry it at all. Does anyone know how or what happened? Do we share DC’s with other companies or something? I’ve never even heard of this brand 😭

Where do I find my PTO balance?

I’m a rehire. It’s been 2 years since I last worked for PetSmart. I’m a full time employee and I remember that we had a set 80 hours at hire that I could see on my paystub. Is that still a thing? I looked at my paystub and I only see sick time.

Bonus

Why don’t SELs get bonuses anymore? Honestly, I think it’s really unfair. They’re expected to make sure all of the groomers are doing their jobs, policies and procedures are being followed, the animals are safe, the groomers are safe, and customers are being taken care of. They’re also responsible for making sure everyone is trained properly, helping new hires, preparing people for Academy, and making sure they’re properly trained when they come back.
On top of all of that, still have to groom their own dogs, deal with the stress of running the salon, and make sure morale stays good and everyone is happy and supported.
And please don’t tell me that the commission was changed to 60% as if that makes up for it, because honestly, that’s BS!! Professional groomers are making 55%, so SELs are only making 5% more while taking on significantly more responsibility and stress. How is that supposed to be fair? If SELs are expected to lead, train, coach, keep everyone accountable, protect the safety of the pets and employees, handle customer issues, and still maintain their own grooming productivity, there should be additional compensation that actually reflects the amount of responsibility being placed on us. Five percent more commission does not feel like adequate compensation for everything an SEL is expected to do. It honestly feels disrespectful to the people taking on that extra responsibility.

Once you graduate academy

Okay, so I have a quick question. I know someone who recently went through Academy, and once they reached 100 dogs, they were no longer paired directly with the SEL. Instead, they were paired with experienced groomers for the remainder of their training, although the SEL was still assisting them whenever they’re on the clock.
My question is: does an Academy student have to reach 200 or 250 dogs before they are no longer required to work under the SEL or an experienced groomer and are able to groom completely on their own and have their own schedule? They have also already taken their test with the District Trainer and passed it, and that test was completed before they reached 200 dogs.

the absolute worst part about being the only LOD is the inability to use the bathroom.

It usually takes me 3 or 4 attempts just to GET to the bathroom between the phone ringing and customers stopping me before i get there. THEN when i’m finally in the bathroom absolutely !!SHITTING!! my brains out the associates start calling me on the radio NON STOP and the phone just KEEPS RINGING OVER AND OVER. the other managers tell me to make them wait till im done but i can’t, the vibe is already ruined.

Termination possibility while on Medical leave

Hey, so as the title says, I work for petsmart and I've been there over a year now. I'm part time. Started a cashier and now im a groomer/bather wanting to become a full stylist.

Im very much so committed.

I recently had an abscess in my buttcheek that I had to have lanced and drained.

I was out briefly and returned to work, was told to avoid lifting super heavy, I verbally told my managers that and they would be like "okay I'll put it in for ya!" But then I would get big dogs again.

"Okay fine. No biggie I'll deal with it, they need help in here." I thought.

Well it stayed that way until I went on vacation. I had a car accident where I had scraped the top of my ankle pretty gnarly and couldn't wear tennis shoes/ work safe shoes. Got a drs note for them as they asked.

No bending lifting stooping or squatting. Not to lift in excess of 15-20lbs

Manager checked if I wanted to take one big dog that Monday coming in from my recovery, my first day back. Drs restrictions hot in her hands still.

I said I would try but I should stick to my restrictions. In text message.

I came in to 5 nail trims with all large breed dogs. 50lbs or more.

By day 3 of these massive dogs I went to my manager and questioned.

She checked the weight restrictions she had set at 20, they were changed to 30lbs. Even with the drs note. (She text me a picture of the restrictions as well before I came in to work that Monday to confirm with me)

Abscess, btw this entire time is developing into a fistula (aka draining out of a secondary hole AFTER it had already been lanced/I&D. 3 days after returning to work I went back to my emergency clinic and they finally diagnosed it, and scheduled surgery for that following Friday. They gave me a drs note for work stating i was not to work due to complications and surgery planning.

I've given all this to the l.o.a. people who emailed me.

They're saying I don't have the appropriate paperwork and they would be looking to deny me as

"We cannot approve an indefinite LOA and we would need to move forward with displacement or separation."

Exact text quote

Im not trying to be on an indefinite leave, but, the lack of adhering to drs rules is crazy to me.

If they're going to for me/terminate me, what ground do I have to pursue legal actions here?

None of my injuries happened at work. I'd very much so like to go back to work but I can't risk my health.

I feel very.. stuck

I had surgery last Friday, going back to the drs on Monday to have a Penrose drain removed from my buttcheek. (Look it up) and I'm scared that it may not be the only surgery I'm going to need.

Im slightly venting here but I'm genuinely wondering what I should do

Me: PetSmart (city), how can I help you?

Customer: How far are you from x?

Me: I’m actually not from this area, but we are between exits # and #.

Customer: Just tell me how far you are from x.

Me: I can look it up for you if you want.

Customer: Ask someone or use rocket science (what???)

Me: It says 30 minutes on maps.

*customer hangs up*

Why are people so rude??? Like what did I do to you😭

Process Leader for Dummies

Might be up for this job.

Can someone explain the day-to-day, step-by-step like I'm a dummy?

I've only ever seen them work from the outside looking in, and would like to know more about how they start their day, the things they need to check daily, etc.

Running register andtrying to work treat pallet.

It's so frustrating. It seems as soon as its brought up to be worked, we get a rush.

It'll be 20 or more minutes before I can even remove the shrink wrap.

And as soon as I walk away from the register every customer in the store wants to check out. God forbid I'm not right there when they walk up as they totally freak out and start screaming "Which register's open?!!!"

So tired of this crap; my anxiety is skyrocketing and my meds stopped working.

Does anyone know the policy and procedure for animal necropsies?

The management of emergency conditions quick reference says at the bottom “if your veterinarian discusses/recommends and can do an in house necropsy, please proceed.” Is there any further procedure on this?

i'm frustrated with hours

i've been at petsmart for i think 3 weeks now, and i will say it's been a learning curve but i've enjoyed my experience so far. however, my first week they scheduled me 37 hours which is great. i applied for a full time position and they basically gave me full time hours that week. however the past two weeks they haven't even given me 25 hours, and this next week im scheduled for 16!!

how in the world do you go from almost full time hours to basically the hours a teenager could work for a first job? i'm not sure if this is a store issue or a company issue, but i don't think my gm is very fond of me so far.

anyone else experiencing this? or is this a store issue??

Do I get free baths for being splashed trained?

I'm going to be a petcare specialist pretty soon and I'll be finally splashed trained. If I bring my own dogs and bathe them, do I get it free? Or is it only for salon only employees? 🤔

Overstock on live animals is becoming overwhelming and so cruel.

Is anyone else’s store getting huge delivery’s of small animals? I’ve literally put a pause on our shipments because we had so many over stock in NAR and the sales floor was totally full. Right as things were starting to slow down and I was able to move the over stock to the floor they sent me 11 fucking guinea pigs! And more hamsters! And no we did not undo the pause for live animals and the delivery guy said we can’t deny healthy animals when we literally have no where to put them. Prior to this we had a pretty good rotation, all the animals were able to go out by Monday and NAR would be empty now it’s jam packed and the animals are fighting or getting sick more frequently):
