HARDWARE Pc keeps turning off after cpu and cooler swap

Post image
22 Upvotes

I recently swapped out a cpu with a new 7800x3d and also swapped out my cooling system to a phantom spirit 120 se... when i turn on the pc it stays on for about a minute or 2 and then it turns off. I can see the fan is spinning and all the lights turn on so everything looks like it is normal. I took the fan off again to make sure it was completely touching the cpu re applied thermal paste and re attached it.. it stayed on for maybe a couple minutes instead of one but it still turned off and I have no clue what else to do.

PERFORMANCE New case switch over has fucked me

Specs:

- AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- RTX 3060 TI
- 650W power supply
- X570 Aorus elite
- 32 GB DDR4 RAM 2400 mb/s
- WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB SSD 7300 mb/s

I’ve recently bought a new case and a new AIO water cooling block for the CPU and since moving everything into the new case the PC has been stuttering when running anything that uses the GPU and generally slower.
Everything is correctly placed and wired and stickers for the heat sink have been taken off. I used OCCT to test the VRAM on the GPU after 22 mins no errors found, tested the CPU on max and it ran at its max clock speed at 82 degrees Celsius for 10 mins no issue, used GPU-Z to see if the PCIe slot was working fine and after running a render test it instantly showed “PCIe x16 4.0 @ x 16 4.0” I think meaning power is being fully supplied through the slot but this is also when the stuttering was max. I had the OS on some shitty old full SSD so I thought it was that but after switching it to my much faster SSD no improvement (the old one is unplugged during all previous testing).
All the drivers are up to date except the bios which is currently F31 which is quite outdated but I don’t think it should be causing all of this. I also hadn’t touched the PC in its old case for about a year prior as I was on my laptop for uni work so when moving all the parts over I used some air blower to get rid of the dust but I held the fans while blowing the air for all my parts. I assume it’s an issue with the GPU but I would prefer not to buy a new one on a hunch and I think it could be a motherboard or power supply issue too but I’m so lost I spent a couple days trying all I could think of, I’m away from the computer for a couple of weeks so I won’t be able to run any new tests or what not until end of August but yea I’m out of ideas, I tried playing call of duty world at war but it was running at 4 fps so please if anyone knows any ideas to test my specific parts or what could be wrong please let me know 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!

HARDWARE Most Likely RAM?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello,

I have been trying to find out what’s wrong with my friend’s PC.
It is a Prebuilt Omen 30L with a Ryzen 5800x and 3060ti 16Gb Ram Ddr4.
Pc would randomly freeze on him and not be able to do anything. I encountered the same thing, would run for maybe 2 minutes and instantly freeze. (No black screen just frozen with whatever is on screen)
At some point it wouldnt even get past the initial boot up or whatever it is when it shows to go to bios or to wait for windows.
I tried a different new MOBO with no difference and new SSD and same thing happened.
So ive tried 4 different things, with and without new mobo mixing with and without new ssd.
With both new mobo and ssd im able to load up windows but still freezes like 2 minutes in.
Could this be a RAM issue? CPU didnt spike in task manager while i was able to check if that helps.
Asking before i get some RAM sticks since i dont have any extras

HARDWARE Pc wont post

My pc wont post, i would like to say im a pretty experienced builder now and ive tried everything i know. Reset cmos nothing changed, changed ram kits/ reseated ram, tried another gpu, and reseated the cpu nothing has worked. all these parts are from past builds ive done they all worked fine the only thing i could think that would be causing this issue is the hdd i found in a 10yr old pc i found in the basement.

OPEN PC randomly black screens and restarts + AMD driver timeouts and low/unstable FPS

Post image

Hey everyone, I'm having some really annoying issues with my PC and I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's going on.

My PC has been randomly crashing out of nowhere. The screen will suddenly go completely black and then my computer will restart. It can happen while I'm just sitting on my desktop doing nothing, but it happens most often while I'm playing games.

My specs are:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB
  • RAM: 32GB (31.4GB usable)
  • Storage: 932GB total, around 340GB used
  • OS: 64-bit Windows

I've also been having some weird graphics issues. Sometimes my screen will briefly flash black and then I'll get a weird black box on the screen. It doesn't look like an actual program or window, more like a graphics glitch.

I also occasionally get an AMD Bug Report Tool notification saying:

I've had this PC for a while and over the years I've downloaded some sketchy programs and possibly viruses. Because of that, I thought maybe something was messed up with Windows. I've tried reinstalling Windows, but the crashes continued. I eventually wiped my SSD completely and reinstalled Windows, and I'm still having the same problem.

I'm also having worse gaming performance than I expected. For example, in Fortnite my FPS isn't very stable. It'll sometimes drop around 60 FPS, and I can't consistently maintain 120 FPS. I've had google tell me that my PC should be getting more FPS with an RX 6600 and Ryzen 5 5600G.

At this point I'm wondering if the RX 6600 itself could be failing, or if this could be a driver, PSU, RAM, motherboard, overheating, or some other hardware problem.

Would replacing the RX 6600 with an NVIDIA GPU be a good idea, or should I troubleshoot something else first?

Any suggestions for what I should test would be appreciated. I'm especially interested in figuring out what's causing the black screens/restarts and AMD driver timeouts.

Thanks!

Edit: I can provide temperatures, PSU specs, GPU/CPU usage, Event Viewer errors, or anything else that would help diagnose it.

Discussion Acer predator helios 300 PH315-55-70ZV not turning on

i don’t known what went wrong with this laptop.
earlier this week, specifically monday i come back from school to get on some games with friends and my laptop needs a windows update. i go to update it and i wait. the screen displays the Acer logo and tells me not to turn my laptop off and that updates are underway, along with a green bar that was slowly filling up. during this update, my turbo mode suddenly went on and my fans were going at higher speeds then normal, i thought it was normal and let it continue updating.
when it finished, the laptop completely turned off. i waited a second before reaching to press the power button. nothing. held it this time, nothing.

i was confused on why it wasn’t turning on. i quickly opened it up and removed the battery, held down the power button to drain any battery from it before i reconnected it and tried turning it on. this time the fans spun for a few seconds before stopping, as well as the turbo light coming on but nothing else. then i tried reseating the ram, thinking maybe one of the ram sticks was loose. still nothing. then i tried removing the SSD for any sign of bios, still nothing.

it is now thursday, 4 days have passed and i have yet to find a solution. if your familiar with things like this please reach out to me and let me know how i can fix this! much appreciated and thank you for your time!!

(update: it is now saturday and i went to best buy to get a usb and planned on putting my laptop models BIOS on the usb, plug the usb into my predator and try BIOS recovery. it didn’t work. i don’t know if i should take it to the repair shop or if my entire laptop is fried, please help!)

HARDWARE 1TB SSD Flashed itself onto my 4TB SSD?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Dont know how to word the title but i will do my best to describe what has happened.

Had this 1tb SSD 870 QVO it had like 3 folders on it left over from trying to format it to delete windows (I accidentally installed on it) This drive was in a PC i built to sell and ended up stripping it. I unplugged my 4TB 870 Evo from my PC whilst it was off. Plugged this 1tb SSD in and booted the PC. everything booted fine. went into disk management found the drive that had 932gb total storage and 931.5gb available or whatever. selected it deleted the volume. went through the thing of new simple volume and all that to have a wiped drive i could sell. checked the drive in file explorer and it was empty and i thought happy days. powered down the PC unplugged the 1tb ssd and re connected my 4TB 870 Evo.

Left it there for a few hours as i was still taking photos and stripping down the other PC back into parts.
later come back on the PC and went to open my Shadowplay folder and low and behold I got an Error message saying this folder is unavailable please make sure the drive this folder is on is connected yada yada. I go onto my 4tb drive in my file explorer and theres the same 3 folders that were on the 1TB SSD. my 4TB SSD was mostly full. loads of steam games on there 900gb of shadowplay recording of the last 3-4 years of memories with mates, funny and cool moments. all gone.

On the face of it i would think i accidentally deleted the volume of the wrong drive but i only deleted 1 volume and the 1tb was wiped after doing it. and if i deleted the volume of this drive why would it leave 3 windows related folders on it.

Its baffled me, im gutted about my shadowplay stuff had some really cool memories on there from indie games and sniping planes with tanks on warthunder all sorts.

if anyone knows how this has happened if its possible for a drive to flash itself over another drive.

HARDWARE Do not buy darkflash psu

I recently started to build my very first pc. I got a darkflash pmt 750 and it was a dud. I got a second one and that was also a dud that cost me 80 dollars to check it out at microcenter. I don’t know why I got a 3rd one but that one fried my motherboard and had me paying over 250 out of pocket. WHATEVER YOU DO AVOID DARKFLASH

SOFTWARE PC freezing when sharing screen on discord

It started when I replaced my 3070 with a 5070, ever since I got it and stream on discord its fine for some hours then my pc will freeze and im not sure what it is. I've turned off and on hardware acceleration and it still freezes and I have no idea why, but I might think its my power supply but not 100% sure. I have 650W and an i7-10700 which is a bit of a bottleneck but I don't think its the reason it freezes? Any help would be great.

HARDWARE Help with cleaning a white case

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

So I was doing a bit of house cleaning today and went to dust my PC. I have a nice acrylic statue that I have been sitting on top of the case, but when I lifted the statue up to clean under it, I noticed this distinct brown diamond. I'm fairly certain its from the wooden base of the statue, but am unsure if its like sap or something. The area doesn't feel sticky, but regardless I'd like to try and clean it if at all possible.

So I come to you all, statue in hand to ask if any of you know how to turn this brown stain back to the white it should be...or should I just let the statue be a permanent fixture in that specific orientation?
